Well, I posted in here back when my username was Eustace+Jill, but since I got my username changed today, I thought it would be a good idea to go again.
I love LOTR. And, of course, I love the Elvish language. So I wanted my username to be an Elvish name. I went to one of those Elvish translators they have on LOTR fan sites. Apparently "Ithilwen" was the name for "Moon". I thought that was really beautiful. And so, I am Ithilwen! :D

uhh I think my username is a bit self explanitory :p ....

I guess just since Georgie is my favorite in the series and I thought the name sounded good, I saw so scared someone else had the name before my and someone would get mad, I'm so glad noone had it though, I love my username :)

Fascinating stories everyone, even those of you who have stories that are less fascinating than those with the wacky stories... :P

My username is my real name (Melissa) in Elvish, according to Arwen-Undomiel.com, though I've seen it translated differently (and more accurately I think) on other sites. I can't imagine myself as anything but Nioniel though, so I could care less if the translation is incorrectish.

A mostly unknown fact these days is that I used to be called puppy_dog. :p I first joined NW during the days of my obsession with dogs, and I thought my parents would be more willing to get me a canine friend if I displayed my love for them in my username. A dog came several years later but I changed my username before it happened because I had given up hope of ever getting a dog, I considered the username to be childish and it embarrassed me, and a lot of people wrongly considered me to be male and all of that together bothered me. A lot. ;))

I love so many of the usernames on here! :)

Well, my accent mark filled name is a combined name from two of the members of Celtic Woman: Chloë Agnew and Máiréad Nesbitt. :)

When I first joined NarniaWeb, I thought about changing it, because of all the accent marks and stuff (you can't log in easily with them). If I had changed it, I would be known as Layavin. :P Not quiet as exciting. :P Hehe.

I wonder how many times I have already explained this here... Two or three, at least :D .

Mehinen is a childish inside joke, that has become a part of my identity over all these years on Internet. You see, my brother and I got these small figurines of bees that were made of clay. Someone thought to call his bee "Ampinen", which is how he had called wasps when he was small and couldn't yet say it correctly (the real word is "ampiainen" in Finnish). So, to make the names match, my bee got called "Mehinen", which is the word for a bee ("mehiläinen") likewise shortened.

A bit of rambling, but it's hard to explain a linguistic joke in other language . [Well, at least there's less chance on an English-speaking forum for that annoying misunderstanding that happened once, someone read it wrong (mehinen -> miehinen, "manly, masculine") and had thought for a long time that I was male... Well, enough rambling now.]

pickle, I love your user name. I liked pickles as well, but not in sandwhiches; only on their own. I know random. ;)

I also like all the LOTR names as well. Its so much fun to see where all your names come from. ;)

I have often been curious about how people got their usernames and thought about starting a thread like this one. However, I realized that meant I would have to post the story behind my username and that is a bit on the embarrassing side or at least on the weird side. Oh well, here it goes anyway.

When I was younger, I got a stuffed squirrel and named him Pattertwig. I tend to name by stuffed animals after book characters. I think Pattertwig was one of the first Narnia ones I got. My mom would pretend to be him and I would have conversations with him. He has remained one of my favorite stuffed animals and when I needed a stuffed animal to "talk" to the Sunday school Kindergarten class, I took him with. I also took him with me to Germany and took pictures of him in different locations. (I learned in college that it helps kids learn about different places if they see something familiar in the pictures). I decided that if I every joined the forum I would use Pattertwig's Pal as my username or I think that is the way it happened. :- It is partially based on the book character and partially a reference to my stuffed animal (and the fun memories attached to it). I settled on the Pal part because I liked the repetition of the "P." Actually I first joined as pattertwig's pal and that bothered me because it was grammatically incorrect because as a name it should be capitalized. I had to change my username when the forum switch happened because the apostrophe was forbidden. :( I took the opportunity to fix the capitalization issue. Now it just bothers me that it is grammatically incorrect because it doesn't have the apostrophe. :p At least that wasn't my fault. If you want to make me extremely happy, add the apostrophe when you type my username. And yes, I know I'm weird. :p

I'm trying to live 'green-ly', environmentally-conscious, and eat organic food for health reasons. Plus I also loved the green countryside in the UK when I travelled there on vacation. But mainly it's from the green living I've been having to do for my health. :)

Interesting about your username, stateofgreen. Way to go for being so diligent in living green!

Pattertwig's Pal (note the apostrophe :D), what a cool story! You know, it would be such fun to see a photo of your squirrel, since he has held such a special place in your life. *hint-hint* ;) 'Tis really neat your username comes from something that goes so far back in your childhood.

I did note the apostrophe (and the hint). Glad you like the story.
Here are a couple of pictures of Pattertwig in Germany.

Mine is from an Asterix comic. One of my favorite things about the series is all the fun names: Asterix, Postaldistrix, Mykingdomforanos, Timandahaf, just to name a few. I picked the one I thought worked best for a forum user-name. Thus I, Watziznehm, entered cyberspace.

Of course, Here's the funny part: most of you don't know who I am because I always post my thoughts late and they are almost always ignored. =)) So, regrettably, I've actually lived up to my name. :( :|

Watziznehm, I think it might have been in the Getting to Know You thread or something, but I remember having no clue how to pronounce your name because I didn't ever sit and think it through. Now I laugh when I see your posts.

I got my username from the Myst series. There is a girl (girl/woman depending on which book) in them who's name is Ti'ana, which is what I had on the old forum, but the new forum wouldn't let me have the ' in it, so I had to shorten it slightly.
