It's been awhile since I last posted here, but we got our HBP dvd shortly after it was released thanks to our pre-order, watched it, and loved it!! Wow I love that movie! :) I found some of the movie scenes quite hilarious. :p

We got the 2 disc version of the HBP dvd, so along with the full set of special features I got to see the Deathly Hallows sneak peek trailer!!! :D It looks so good on the tv!! It looked nice online, but seeing it on the tv is sooo much better though. ;)) My mom's quite sick of me talking about Deathly Hallows now.

Does anyone here have any Harry Potter related items like wands, costume pieces, etc?? I have some gorgeous HP snowglobes and I have a Hermione doll from the Tonner company. :D I'm hoping to get Hermione's wand and time turner soon along with some other stuff.

Oh, and, does anyone here have the HBP soundtrack? I don't, but i'm thinking of using some of my Christmas money to buy it. The songs in this movie were amazing!!

I would definitely recommend getting the HBP soundtrack. Nicholas Hooper's score for HBP is the best in the series, imo.

I got the HBP soundtrack today and fell head-over-heels in love with it instantly. My favorite tracks so far have to be "In Noctem" (I ADORE choral pieces :x ), "Wizard Wheezes" (it makes me want to do the Charleston ;)) ) and "Harry and Hermione" (it's sweet and melodic).

It's perfect writing music too. :D

Yes! Finally! A Harry Potter thread! I knew someday NW would cave! :p

Oh man....I had a whole blog post typed up a few months ago on how "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was the best and worst HP film yet!" but alas, for some reason I never published it and deleted it into oblivion!
In summation, what they put in the film was picture perfect and they captured the essence of the book yet they left out big important chunks of story plot needed to establish the ending.

And I have a replica of Hermione's wand from the Noble Collection.

I love Harry Potter so much! I have read all of the books and seen all of the movies made. My favorite characters are Remus Lupin, Sirius Black and Luna Lovegood.

Rachel111, you and I have similar character likes, then: Lupin and Lovegood are both favourites of mine, and Snape I definitely find the most intriguing. The real Mad-Eye Moody is quite eccentrically cool. Sirius has a most fascinating past, and I am rather drawn to the sternly somewhat formidable, but deep-down-inside-kindly, Mcgonagall. And Tonks is just plain fun!

All righty, I am reading through the seven books. So, to refresh your memories: I read books 1-3 shortly after they were published, began #4 and lost interest. Since the movies, my curiousity has been piqued again, so with Christmas gift cards and money I went out and bought the entire series. When I got them home I did something for which I must apologize:

Spoiler
I read Deathly Hallows first. I simply had to find out how the whole thing ended. :p
Anyway, then I went back and began again from book 1. I am now on book 5 (Order of the Phoenix) and have thoroughly enjoyed them, for the most part. It still bugs me when Harry breaks the rules, lies, and gets away with it, though. Thankfully this doesn't happen consistently, but still ... /:) And his growing maturity is showing as he gets into his higher Hogwarts years.

I do have a few questions:

1) In Azkaban, why does

Spoiler
Sirius Black try to strangle Harry when Harry encounters him in the Shrieking Shack?
This is about halfway through the chapter "Cat, Rat and Dog".

2) Maybe I've missed this somewhere, but who picks the Prefects? Does the head teacher of each house? So, McGonagall would pick them for Gryffindor; Snape for Slytherin, and so on? Or does the Headmaster? And if so, why on earth would Dumbledore have chosen Malfoy (in Phoenix)? .. which causes me to think it is the house heads who choose them.

3) Why does Hermione have absolutely no girlfriends? I mean, we all know what she's like, but, despite her rigid adherence to rules (most of the time ;) ), she's a great gal! It puzzled me and I found it odd that Rowling didn't allow her any good, close female friends.

So, yep, I'm enjoying the books a lot and can hardly put them down. It's been kind of nice, actually, reading back now that I know what happens in #7 and seeing the previous books in light of the finale.

From my reading of the incident you mention,

2) Maybe I've missed this somewhere, but who picks the Prefects? Does the head teacher of each house? So, McGonagall would pick them for Gryffindor; Snape for Slytherin, and so on? Easy! The Heads of Houses do, and the Headmaster either assents or vetoes the choice. Malfoy would be an obvious nomination by Severus Snape. And to do him justice, Draco was the most influential student in that house in that year and so the best leader. Of the boys at any rate.

3) Why does Hermione have absolutely no girlfriends? I mean, we all know what she's like, but, despite her rigid adherence to rules (most of the time ), she's a great gal! It puzzled me and I found it odd that Rowling didn't allow her any good, close female friends.

Think about it, and really hard. . I'm not sure that Hermione doesn't have close female friends. What about Ginny, for example? Hermione spends a lot of time at the Burrow, and is usually accommodated with Ginny, isn't she? And what is Hermione's boggart, do you think?

On Hermione: Probably Hermione just doesn't have any sort of link with her female peers. She feels isolated from Lavender and Parvati's giggliness and frankly, their stupidity. She's loads ahead of them mentally, and being friends with those sorts of girls (who are all too common in the teenaged years) would be restrictive. She'd have to dumb herself down a bit. Plus, at that age, some girls realize how mean other girls can be, and so naturally gravitate toward having guy friends. Guys don't giggle, and as far as Hermione is concerned, they'd be a lot nicer.
Just a thought.
Just how many Luna fans are out there? She's my favorite of all the female cast.
