Yes, Snape started helping Dumbledore for selfish reasons, but we must remember his character develops throughout the series. It seems you expect perfect characters from the beginning. How boring! Snape is interesting because he has so many dimensions, so much character and much mystery.

And congrats narnian1! (I sent you a request.) Slytherins aren't all bad! (They had Snape, didn't they?) One thing I noticed is on the Great Hall page (where it shows all the houses, the members, and the house points), you can see that all four houses actually are pretty close in numbers, (as in the number of members in each one) which surprised me.

I was sorted into Ravenclaw, just as I was hoping. Whew! After all these years of considering myself a Ravenclaw, I'm not sure I could take getting sorted differently.

Miss. Rosa: I loved The Prisoner of Azkaban! and I also must confess to screeching "DIE YOU EVIL HAG!!!!" When Umbridge was kidnapped by the Centaurs. Although I can't say I regret that. As for the spoiler you mentioned I really enjoyed that part.

Narnian1: Remember Slughorn? Snape? Remember that the sorting hat wanted to put Harry in Slytherin? I think that some of the bravest wizzards and witches were Slytherins.

my school just recently made a Quidditch club!!!! I'm so excited!!!! I was "sorted" into Hufflepuff!!!! and I actually wanted Hufflepuff so i'm really excited!!!! in the winter we will watch/ talk and do everything HP related. I want to play HP Scene It!!! In the spring months we will start games. And another school also has a Quidditch club so we may play them! I hope I can be chaser, but alot of people were put in Hufflepuff, so it will be tough

Ahhh Whit, your school is amazing. I'm jealous. At our school's homecoming, we're having a nerd day, so my friends and I are going to wear our Hogwarts uniforms with nerd glasses. I'm quite excited about it.

ILF, the Pottermore Insider Blog says it'll open maybe end of October, but you might not get in right away...they're going to continue to stagger how many people get on at once so they can work out bugs and keep the site running.

Given the recent release of Pottermore and the small bevy of new information offered there, I thought I would ask a question here in the general Harry Potter thread.

How much do you think we as the readers are prejudiced for or against certain Houses at Hogwarts? For example, do you think the Gryffindor is more popular because that's the House of most of the students we get close perspectives from? Do we tend to see Slytherin as totally negative just because we are reading from Harry and Co.'s perspective?

I ask this because Merlin, a well-known good wizard, came from Slytherin House at Hogwarts according to the Slytherin welcome letter on Pottermore. I have a hard time believing that Slytherin House is only made up of evildoers and such if Merlin is in there (though we could certainly discuss Merlin's moral standing in the context of the Arthurian legends, but that's another topic).

On a related note, I have also seen a great deal of Hogwarts House unity on some of the sites I have visited that have a large Harry Potter fanbase. This includes scarves, patches, and other artistic endeavors.

Not to mention even the Sorting Hat questioned sorting people into Houses, at least in their first year.

Very much so. I don't see terribly many people clamoring to get in to Hufflepuff do you?

I think Pottermore also evidenced this based on the sheer quantity of NarniaWebbers who were sorted into Slytherin. I think most of those who made it into that house did so because they like to role-play the bad guy and answered the sorting questions as such. If the Potter world were real, how many do I think would actually end up in Slytherin? Maybe one or two, if that. Knowing the geeky, bookish, smart personalities of my friends on this site, I think the vast majority should have been sorted into Ravenclaw.
