That old lady scared. I have decided to read the books before the last film is out, I have got through the first 2 now.
Then, IloveFauns, at least you won't feel spoiled to know that JKR set up Ginny to be Harry's love of his life as early as the two first books. In the first book Ginny was on the station when Harry first went to Hogwarts even though she wasn't to attend herself that year. And in the second book there was all that business about her writing in Tom Riddle's diary and being in the Chamber of Secrets. Ron and Hermione were set up for a future romance as early as that book as well, when Hermione was petrified and when in the movie adaptation Ron and Hermione are so awkward with each other when meeting in the Great Hall.
Ginny. Ginny has been flat and underdeveloped these last few movies
Bad enough J. K. Rowling didn't set the romance up well enough, but the movies were foreshadowing Ron/Hermione way back in what, the third movie? The least they could do is show us why Ginny is so awesome. At least the books, with their underdeveloped romance, gave us an awesome Ginny.Spoilerand this one was even worse. She has what, one line? This is supposed to be the love of Harry's life.
I think that over the years the movies have consistently left anything out of them which even hinted at Harry and Ginny eventually getting together, which makes it harder to portray this romance, effectively, especially in the last movies, though Bonnie Wright has done her best. If you look at past movies, you need to watch her facial expressions at various times in the dialogue, when she is present but doesn't have anything to say, especially in OotP.
Some good Ginny book scenes which hinted at their future relationship which didn't make it into the movies:
1. Her valentine to Harry in COS, which allowed Ginny to find out that Harry had Tom Riddle's Diary. 2. The GOF scene when Ginny learns that Harry had asked Cho Chang to the Yule Ball. 3. Ginny's constant presence when Harry is at the Burrow, and returning home on the Hogwarts express, and how they got along in those places. 4. Ginny's reminding Harry of COS at Grimmauld Place in OotP. 5.That whole internal business of Harry being afraid of what Ron might say if he learned that Harry fancied Ginny.
SpoilerHarry and Hermione making out was just really overdone and made me uncomfortable. If it was necessary, why have them be naked?
That scene was supposed to do just that. Not to you, necessarily, but to one of the two protagonists in the scene, who then had to do something about it. Personally, I thought it was well done, suggesting more than what Ron, himself, had been up to with Lavender the previous film,
I really disliked that lavender she is just very irritating.
Never knew their were hippy's in the magic world until i saw lunas father. Lol he didn't look like your usual wizard.
Ginny did seem to like harry from the start(when she wouldn't stop talking about him in the summer before she went to school)
Okay, so I FINALLY went to see the film a few days ago. Overall, it was amazing!
I'm sure as soon as I publish this, I'll think of a million more things!
I also just have to add that my mother, who hasn't read the books, saw it with me. She said that instead of being called, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", it should be called, "Harry Potter and the Death of Everybody".
And when I asked her about the mirror (since I was sure she had no idea what was going on about that), she said she just thought Harry carried it around to look at himself!

I think Daniel Radcliffe's acting improved tremendously in this movie but the other two really were the highlights.
I love your mum's comment about Harry's vanity. Hilarious!
As for the dance, it really was very short. I believe it was over in less than a minute.

I watched Deathly Hallows Part I last week. I don't think it's even close to Prisoner of Azkaban in terms of the faithfulness to the book, but it's the best of David Yates' efforts so far, prolly because the movie is divided into two and he has more room to include all the necessary scenes.

This time is no exception: I'm SO.MAD. that he One may argue that the scene doesn't contribute to the plot, but PLEASE... @AslansCountry I have many problems with what you said in your post, but I am only going to address two of them for now. I am interested in your assessment of the of the movie and your comparison of it to PoA. I would like to know what you mean when you say PoA is faithful to the books. PoA is my second favorite HP (next to this one), but I would never say it is faithful. First of all PoA cannot be called faithful because it left out the marauders back story, a vital item that caused problems for David Yates in OotP. OotP is a great movie, but it has its flaws and I do not blame them all on Yates; he was handed a franchise with four successful films, but a lot of missing data, as a write and a film maker myself I applaud him for doing such a good job (also we must note that David Yates is not responsible for all aspects of the film, David Heyman and the screenwriters, Michael Goldenberg for OotP and Steve Kloves for PoA and all the res of the films, are responsible for a great deal, and perhaps a lot more of the adaption than Yates is.). He had to explain the enmity between Snape and James in one movie, a story which was meant to be explained over time in different books/movies. Alfonso Cauron made a great film, but I was not pleased with the choice of the marauders story being left out, simply for the fact that it caused problems in the later films. I believe that David Yates made his best film yet. It captured every aspect of the book I thought, including the sense of boredom and being stuck with no where to go during the camping scenes.
Now, to my second point. I really enjoyed the extended scene with Hermione. I believe that it contributes to the plot very well. This is how I see it: Hermione has two loving parents whom she loves greatly, however, because she loves them so much she has to Just think how momentous a thing that is to do, think of what a sacrifice that is. She then has to go through an extremely emotionally draining ordeal with Harry and Ron. First the unproductiveness they feel, not finding Horcruxes. And then This is tension. Tension is what makes great literature and great literature makes great films. This would not be a great film if the tensions that J.K. Rowling wrote into her books were not displayed on screen. Hermione goes through the same ordeal in the books, but on screen there it is usually necessary to make a point larger than in a book, so that it appeals to a greater audience (by this I mean those who have not read the book).
However, I would agree with you about Dudley, it was unwise for them to leave out, BUT I am reserving judgement for this particular detail until I have seen the second film because they may have moved this item to the second half of the film.

I'm asking what you think non-book fans think of this.
In a perfect world, the mirror would have been explained in the fifth film, as it was in the fifth book. But it wasn't. I fully expected them to explain it in the sixth film to make up. That didn't happen either.
Now in DH Part 1, Harry is shown with the mirror. We know what it us.
But obviously non-book fans have no clue what it is.
I already wrote how my mother (a non-book fan) thought Harry just carried it around to look at himself!
She, along with all the other, have no clue
Absolutely none of this is explained. And since it becomes a crucial point near the ending of the series, I find it odd that they didn't explain it. It's just there.

Heh, I recently discovered there's some kind of internet fad to edit movie trailers to resemble the Inception trailers, complete with the same music. So I found this.
Haha! That was great. The Inception music really suited it.
