The author of The Chronicles of Narnia was born on this date in 1898. If you don't know why 111 years is significant (or even if you do ), see http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-1750 ... -C-S-Lewis

He'd be 111, silly.
Lewis passed on the same day as JFK and Aldous Huxley. I've not read any Huxley but I'm told they're almost polar opposites. Any truth to that?

Yes, Aldous Huxley was pretty much the polar opposite of both Tolkien and Lewis. Huxley advocated the use of hallucinogenic drugs and was deep into eastern mysticism. To get somewhat of an idea of Huxley's philosophy of life, see my review of his last novel, Island, which I did as part of Hollywood Jesus' LOST (as in the ABC show) Library: http://live.hollywoodjesus.com/?p=2825

I kind of liked Brave New World. It was disturbing and was not absolutely fantastic literature but it was prophetic at least.
Still I much prefer Lewis' hope-inspiring works.
As Tolkien would say (good title for the topic, MarkSommer, )
Happy Eleventy-first birthday!
Quod Erat Demonstrandum
Nice One Mark . Thanks for reminding everyone of Lewis's birthday and the significance of the Eleventy First one . Happy Belated B-day Jack .
I'm not sure that Huxley was a Polar opposite of Lewis though. It depends what aspect of their lives one is talking about. One can certainly make a case that they are literary opposites, some of Huxley's fiction had a rather bleak outlook compared to Lewis's more hopeful outlook .
If one believes in the significance of coinciding departures from this mortal coil (which I occasionally entertain), then it seems to me that there might be some sort of connection between Kennedy, Lewis, and Huxley. I wonder if it might have something to do with the fact that they all had something to do with promoting a more Imaginative View of Reality .
