Hurray for Independence Day! God Bless America! Stand beside her and guide her and bring her fully back to you so that her focus is on obeying and loving God in all things.

give the atmosphere a chance.
Simply follow where I lead;
let me teach you how to dance."

Happy Independance Day!!

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

It is my prayer that this country, so blessed by God, will give praise to the Power that has made and preserved us a nation. May America put their trust in God and follow His Word.

In honor of the 4th...

The Star Spangled Banner:

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Also... Happy Canada Day! I believe that was just a couple of days ago.

Happy 4th! Thanks for posting the complete lyrics, starkat.

And you're right, Canada Day (aka Dominion Day) was July 1. In honor of the day I present one of my favorite versions of the Canadian anthem, an a cappella version by Michele Yuan.

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux.
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix.
Ton histoire est une épopée,
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Happy 4th! Yesterday was a lovely day. My family went to the usual place for fireworks, and it's just as enjoyable every year. :)

Happy 4th of July a day late! :P

Texas is already burning, so there's a statewide ban on fireworks right now. :( I'm quite disappointed. But! We watched the Boston celebration on TV and that was lovely! Did anyone else see the Boston fireworks? "There's a Place for Us" was one of the songs they choreographed the fireworks to! :D Along with the other NW favorite, "Fireflies" by Owl City. :P
It was such a great show, that we're hoping to be able to be in Boston next Independence Day to see it in person. :D

I hope everyone had an AMAZING 4th! :D God Bless America!

Happy Independence Day, everyone! (Belated. :p) I am so grateful for America, its independence, and all it cost to get our freedom.

I can say it no better than this:

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet,
Whose stern impassion'd stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America! God mend thine ev'ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev'ry gain divine!

O Beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam,
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

My 4th of July plans mostly consisted of watching a movie with my family (The Final Countdown) and going to see two different firework displays. :) It was a great day. :D I hope everyone else had a great time too!

"There's a Place for Us" was one of the songs they choreographed the fireworks to! :D Along with the other NW favorite, "Fireflies" by Owl City. :P

:-o No way! That must have been so cool! When we were watching fireworks of our own, I kept thinking how amazing it would be to set a fireworks display to Fireflies... ;))

I hope everyone had a great Independence day. I know I did. :D

We had homemade vanilla ice cream with fudge sauce to celebrate. It was delicious! ;)

The fireworks were awesome as always. ;) This year there was close to 30 minutes of fireworks. Hooah!

What could be better than being with family, the Cardinals beating the Reds B-) , homemade ice cream, and fireworks? :)

Happy belated 4th of July!
The church I go to did a presentation on the screen during the offering. It had quotes from some of the founding fathers about the importance of God and Christianity and Bible verses it was quite powerful. Here is a preview of the presentation.

I'm not sure if this quote was in the presentation but if it wasn't it should have been.

It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.

I love George Washington. What a great man he was! The US could well have become a proto-banana republic but for his example. When it came time to resign his commission as General of the Continental Army, Washington (who could have been King George Washington if he so chose, and the people would have supported him for he was well loved and respected) vowed to return home to his farm. When King George III heard of this he reportedly said, ""If he does that, he will be the greatest man in the world." Imagine the character of the man to have power like this ripe for the taking with the very likely consent of the people and to turn it down not once but several times.

Henry Lee said of Washington after his death, "First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen, he was second to none in the humble and endearing scenes of private life. Pious, just, humane, temperate, uniform, dignified, and commanding, his example was edifying to all around him, as were the effects of that example lasting.

"Such was the man America has lost! Such was the man for whom our country mourns!"
