Hmmmmm....
Hmmmmmmmm....
Hmmm....
I really want to like this, but I'm such a huge fan of the Oz series and this looks way outside of the Oz world (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was from Omaha Nebraska, not Kansas. ). Maybe if I just throw the whole Baum Oz out the window and try to enjoy Raimi's Oz I might like this. We'll see. I did like the nod to the classic movie where it was black and white in the beginning and then turned to color.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman has been a large number of movies, but the one I always will remember him for is as the whiny, sniveling preppy dweebazoid in Scent of a Woman (1992). Anytime I watch another movie with him in it I default back to my image of him as that smarmy, smug kid and it ruins it for me . He got an Academy for Capote...I think. He's a good actor otherwise, but I'm not sure he'd be a good fit as Heavensbee.

Wow, nothing about the Marvel news coming out of SDCC?
Okay, Iron Man 3 has been confirmed to include the Mandarin played by Ben Kingsley.
The Thor sequel will be titled Thor: The Dark World. No word on the villains in it, but with that title I'd really be surprised if there's no connection to Nifleheim or Hela. Will be directed by one of the people who does Game of Thrones, which sounds like a brilliant idea to me.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier comes out in 2014. I knew Bucky wasn't dead. And August 1st of that same year, we get a Guardians of the Galaxy movie!
AND in 2014 we will finally get the Warner Bro./Legendary Pictures Godzilla film directed by Gareth Edwards.
This one was originally planned for 2012, but it has been lamenting in "pre-production heck" for a year or more. Anyway, at SDCC they unveiled a teaser video (no footage of the Big G himself yet) and Mr. Edwards gave some reassuring words on his vision of the film:
"I'm just going to take it really seriously," Edwards said. "I'd like to see this movie this way all my life, really... There's nothing sci-fi about this movie, it's very grounded, realistic."
Not sure how realistic you can make a film about a giant radioactive dinosaur terrorizing a city, but at least this director seems to like Godzilla in general as opposed to Roland Emmerich way back in 1998.

The link unfortunately has a good bit of PG-13 content near the bottom... so, don't read the comments on the story.

Apparently, they have cast Finnick Odair for Catching Fire.
I'm ... not certain what i think, personally. He certainly isn't ugly, but isn't Finnick supposed to be blond? Not that that's stopped them before.
Sam Claflin has been in Snow White and the Huntsman (William) and the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean (Philip) films; anyone who's seen these care to comment on his acting skills?

I haven't seen him act yet. Nevertheless, now that I know he was cast, I can breathe a sigh of relief. He isn't really how I pictured Finnick. But like you said, he isn't ugly. They can dye his hair; they dyed Josh Hutcherson's. And most of all, though I don't know how good an actor he is, he must be a better casting choice than some other people who were rumored as being cast in the role. *coughrobertpattinsoncough*

I can't recall Finnick being blond off the top of my head, but considering he was a fisherman who spent a great deal of time outdoors, it definitely would make sense if his hair was sun-bleached and light. Most surfers are blond or light brunets, and it's not all due to genetics.
Ok, side ramble over, lol!
I saw this Sam guy in SWatH (and he was in Pirates? Oh YEAH I thought I recognized him!) and while neither were particularly strong acting roles, I've no doubt he'll do a great job. And by "not strong roles" I mean that he really had bit parts in both; not tons of scenes in either as I recall. As long as he does appropriate bulking up so the shirtless scenes are dutifully accurate (ahem), I don't think there will be a problem.
So, has anyone seen Finnick yet? *sees photo of Sam* ODAIR HE IS!!!!

I saw him in POTC and I really liked him. I haven't seen him otherwise so it's hard to say how he'll do but I am expecting good things now that I know this.

Man of Steel,
Teaser looks great. A different feel than previous Superman movies, and I mean that in a good way. It needs to be different. Hoping it turns out great.
I saw him in POTC too and I think he was great. His acting was superb.
I'm not a big fan of hunger games. but I think he would be good in it

I'm actually pretty excited about Man of Steel. I got to see the teaser in front of The Dark Knight Rises and was so excited when I realized what it was that I grabbed my friend who was sitting next to me. He's not a fan of Superman at all and still thought the teaser looked good. I will point out there are two different versions of the teaser. The one we saw in the theater featured Russell Crowe narrating, the only one I've seen online so far is Kevin Costner narrating. Crowe plays Jor-El, Kal-el/Clark/Superman's bio-dad and Costner plays Jonathan Kent, the adoptive father.
I refuse to be concerned by the Finnick casting. Claflin's role in PotC 4 was small, but he seemed decent in it. And honestly, most of the people whining about the casting are caught up on what he looks like, which is pretty shallow. It's like casting Helen of Troy; trying to please everyone's opinion of what the ultimate gorgeous person looks like is a Kobayashi Maru.
Here's the Man of Steel teaser with Russel Crowe narrating: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-toIu5JscE&feature=relmfu
And here's Kevin Costner:

Doesn't show much at all, but it caught my attention. Looking forward to another trailer with more action and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.
Mark my words, someday I will think of something brilliant to put in my sig.
Jena Malone has been cast as Johanna Mason in Catching Fire:

I think she looks just right.

LoL, funny, I saw the teaser, I think it was the Costner one, and I didn't realize what it was until the end scene. (When it shows him in his costume flying into the air.) I was a little slow with that one, I mean, in the beginning, it looked like a documentary of some sort about someone famous. And even when it showed the little boy with the cape, I was like "Well, every kid wants to be Superman, so what? WHO IS IT?" And then I saw him and I'm like: "Oh...another Superman reboot?!?" Waiting for another trailer...
On a side note, I was very please they used "The Bridge of Khazad Dum" for the trailer, but it seemed a little too...sad.
