Tintin- The trailers look great, I can't wait. :D I'm still not really sure if that I'm much of a fan of how (for lack of a better word) sailor-like Haddock sounds (it seems a bit over-exaggerated sometimes) but I'm pretty sure I'll change my mind by the time I've seen the movie. So jealous that it comes to theaters just about everywhere before it does in America. It's a good strategy, but I just want to see it! :)

Les Mis- From what I've seen floating around the web, HBC and Geoffrey Rush are only rumored to be in it right now... I don't know, IMO even though it's been like 13 years since the Neeson version, I feel like it's too soon to have another Les Mis movie. (Edit: even though there's a lot of stuff that I can see them improving on from the Neeson version) But the cast looks good so far, so I'll probably get over it. Though I am still wishing that they would movie-musical instead

The more I see about the Tintin movie, the more I like it! Though I'm strictly limiting my access to spoilers, so I haven't seen the latest trailer/clips. :p
I read a book fan's comment somewhere online that if Tintin isn't knocked unconscious at some point, it won't be in the spirit of the books! I am forced to agree with this. :D

A My Fair Lady remake doesn't sound all that promising, but with Carey Mulligan?! Much better. I haven't actually seen her in anything, but I've read reviews, and she interests me very much. Her first part was Kitty Bennet in the Keira Knightley P&P. Most recently she was in Drive and Never Let Me Go.

Also this one. And this.

The gentleman - Daniel Day-Lewis - I don't know anything about.

Bookwyrm, thanks for sharing that about the original ending of My Fair Lady. I think I prefer it to the ending of the Hepburn movie - that one's too sappy for me!

Outlier, America still gets Tintin several days before Australia, which is stupid and doesn't make sense (the books are very well-known here). I understand your concerns about Haddock's accent though but reports seem to indicate that Andy Serkis' portrayl is one of the highlights of the movie.

Adeona, it's great to see another Tintin fan! I'd have to agree that Tintin has to get knocked unconscious at some point in the movie for it to be true to the series.

Adeona- =)) agreed!

Warrior- Oh wow, I though just about every country released before America, guess not. And that would make sense if it's more well known in Australia too. The majority Tintin fans I know IRL are 40+, so I do think it's a good idea to release it in other countries to get more people hyped up. As for Haddock, it does sound cheesy and overdone at first, but I get more and more used to it every time I see the trailer. Not to mention, if Serkis gives a performance like his other roles he's been in then I don't really see a reason to be worried anymore.

I have never read Tintin, nor do I know anything about it - but I saw a short trailer several months ago, and that got me interested. I think I'll go see it. :D

In short, The Adventures of Tintin belong to the mystery, adventure, suspense genre but they also include quality humour. They're very good. Spielberg has said regarding the Tintin movie, "the medium is not the message, the story and characters are." I find that comforting. You can have the greatest technologies in the world, but if your characters and story have no heart and aren't interesting *cough* Avatar *cough* then it mean nothing. Good on you for trying something new! I hope you enjoy the movie. :)

I'm pretty sure this newest version of "Les Mis" is intended to be a musical adaption. All the information on IMDb suggests that it is.

Which raises the question - can Russell Crowe sing?

Wouldn't it increase pirating though? :-

Warrior4Jesus, have you seen Tintinologist forums before? It's like the Tintin fan's version of the Narniaweb forums. I found the site a while ago, and they have some interesting discussions going on in there both analyzing the recent trailers and discussing the original books in detail.

Yes, Minotaur, I have. I've actually been a member of Tintinologist since early 2004. My username there is 'Tintinrulz'. Thanks for thinking of me. You should join too. It's very in-depth.

I'm so excited for Tintin! :D
I've been trying to stay as spoiled free as possible, and avoiding most trailers.
I might have to wait a few days after it opens to see it, because me and my family always go to a movie on Christmas Eve, and I could not think of a better movie to see then Tintin! :D

Oh, the Les Mis version is a musical? That was my first thought, I thought a while longer and decided that it probably wasn't - but is it? If they do it well, I think that would be uber uber cool, because I adore the musical (well, the songs. :P I haven't ever seen it).
And sorry if I'm horribly stupid, I'm sure it's mentioned below - when is Tintin coming out?

Thanks so much Adeona for the pics!

However, I found this:

http://www.fabaudrey.com/2010/06/10/upd ... dy-remake/

(in short: Keira Knightley & Carey Mulligan are not playing Eliza.)

so the part's still up for grabs...

What about Winona Ryder?

Director Daniel Waters explained why he cast Winona Ryder in his forthcoming flick “Sex and Death 101.” “I needed a psychopath who was sweet, warm, and funny — and that’s basically Winona,” Waters told the new issue of Elle. “She’s like an Audrey Hepburn that’s been dropped off the table and has a crack in it.”

maybe...

or

what about Natalie Portman?

She's similar to Hepburn, and she even modeled the Little Black Dress from Breakfast at Tiffany's in hopes to get the dress more publicity for a Christies auction.
And, when she was in Star Wars...Knightley played her double, and people said when in costume, they looked so much alike, their mums couldn't even tell them apart! So, if you can't have Knightley...Portman's the next best thing! :)

(pictures & an article on her & the dress)

I've seen both Ryder & Portman in films, I think either one could "fit the bill".
(I'm leaning towards Ryder, however :) )

Any thoughts, opinions...anything?

I've never seen My Fair Lady, never caught my interest. As for Carey Mulligan, I can't help but also mention that she was nominated for an Oscar two years ago for An Education.
