Oh, I'm so, so, SO, excited about the Jennifer rumors!! When I read the books, I totally didn't picture Katniss anything like Jennifer--more darker hair. But I find that physical descriptions like hair color are pretty changable (unless it's of a major signifigance to the story, like Anne of Green Gables!).

We already know she can do glamorous--just look at her Oscar pictures. But I thought these stills from Winter's Bone showed a more "Katniss" side of her...not glammed up or caring how she looked...she looks more like a fighter, like Katniss, here.

I do think Hailee would do a good job of Katniss, and she is definetly a great actress...but I'm leaning more toward Jennifer now, based on their two breakout performances. Hailee in True Grit is tough, she's determined...but it's *almost* played more for a comedic bit? Like, we're supposed to be slightly amused that this girl is doing all this stuff, challenging adults, etc. Whereas with Jennifer's character in Winter's Bone, we aren't amused or surprised, because we instantly know that her character has grown up taking care of her siblings...she's considered an adult and she acts like it. Hailee's character is just beginning to assert herself, and isn't taken seriously although she does just fine. So while I'm not saying Hailee couldn't do it...I think considering those two similair yet different roles...Jennifer would be more suited.

The only problem is that Jennifer Lawrence is way too old! The point of the story is that Katniss is a child. The book loses its potency if Katniss looks like an adult. I checked and Lawrence is 20 (10 days younger than me actually) and she looks it, if not older. While she could easily look 17 in the photos that Val posted, she looks far older in her glam shots:

And Katniss has to dress up. It's very difficult to dress someone up while making them look younger.

Booky: That film looks fun, though it could be pretty edgy. I love Ellen Page as an actress, so I'm interested in pretty much any film she's in.

I'm not really for Jennifer for the Hunger Games, she seems far to old for my taste. If the series does well she will have so stay on for 3 books and she will just keep looking older, I think they should get somone Katniss's age in the book maybe even slighty younger- but not crazy younger. I just hope for some official news soon- I'm so excited for the movie I can't wait for details to appear!

I think Alex Pettyfer would make a great choice for Peeta. Why do you think he's an arrogant jerk? If you see it than arrogant is one of the qualities of being a really good actor, and he is that.

My real problem with Alex is that I don't think he's a good enough actor. He's decent, but I don't think he's good enough for Peeta, plus I think he looks too old. I don't care what his real age is, but he's in his 20's and I think he looks like it. :/

I watched Beastly last weekend and towards the end Alex appeared younger looking than he was in the beginning and I think they can make him appear younger. Actors are always casted in roles that are younger then their actual ages. it can be done. i think I know this because I spend too much time on movie sets.

I also don't think Alex is a good enough actor, especially for such a huge role. He's been in Stormbreaker, Wild Child, Beasty, and I Am Number Four. I've seen the first two and while they were a couple of years ago I wasn't terribly impressed with his acting. It's good enough that he's in the business, and he CAN act, but not superbly. And while I wouldn't call him "arrogant" exactly when I see him on screen (or in interviews) he has gives a impression (to me at least) of knowing that he's good looking. And I dont' just mean healthy self-confidence which is fine, but slightly more..."oh yeah, I'm so good looking and I know it".
But the main thing is I don't think he's a good enough actor for the part of Peeta (or Gale). I don't think he'd even be too old.
I remember in the special features for Stormbreaker he said something like "for the first half of the movie I mostly just enjoyed looking good in front of the camera and then halfway thru I kind of figured out I'd need to do a little more work" (majorly paraphrased). Yes, that's been a while, he's improved. But that's still kind of the impression I get...

Aw man, did Jennifer Laurence get the part people wanted Georgie to get? Oh well, Georgie bias aside ( ), I think she is very pretty and in the 'younger looking' pictures she looks very adventure-y and young, like a good character.

I have just heard of Hunger Games so my opinions may not mean much , but I am now interested. When is it/are they coming out?

I've seen posted for a reboot of Connan the Barbarian. Having seen the one with Arnold and James Earl Jones, I'm simply not sure what to make of this. I also heard they are rebooting Highlander as well. I'm interested in them for swordplay but I'm just not confident. We'll see.

The first Hunger Games movie is coming out March 23, 2012. No clue about the others.

As for Alex . . . something about him just doesn't click for me. Know what I mean? Maybe it's his face-it looks far too mature, without that boyish look that I always picture Peeta with.

Well, according to the article I posted earlier, Alex, Josh Hutcherson and Hunter Parrish have all met/read for the role. I don't know anything about Josh's acting, but with his hair color changed he's look OK. Not my favorite, though.
Hunter . . . looks exactly right in my mind and from what I've heard, his acting's spot on, so he's who I'm backing until there's an announcement.
Which, now that we have a Katniss, shouldn't be far away!

@Fencer: I'm mildly interested in Conan, but only because Jason Momoa is in it. Judging by the trailer, it'll probably be a cheesy mess though.

Pretty much what i'm thinking at this point, except i'm a little concerned about Jennifer's age. They can do a lot with make-up and such these days, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will ... and she's only going to get older if they adapt the rest of the books. The blonde hair/blue eyes bug me a little too, but that's a minor issue. Mostly.

Still, i'm not giving up hope yet; i'll wait for the trailers to do that.

All this casting talk makes me wish that Vampire Academy would hurry up and go into pre production already!

the person that means the most to me who is to be cast is Peeta, he is my favorite character of the series and I adore him, I would rather not have Alex as the role- again as I've said 50 times, why not find an unknown?!

Josh Hutcherson could make a great Gale in my opinon, I've watched alot of his movies and am a great fan of his- I think he could handle the part well
