Just checked randomly on IMDb and found some good news I've been waiting to hear for years!
One of my favorite books as a kid is getting a movie, or rather- an update:
The Phantom Tollbooth
There is a 70s version of the book but that movie I just didn't quite enjoy. It was faithful to be sure, but I didn't care for the style of animation. For years I've waited and finally in 2013 we should get it- hopefully.

That is going to take some deft handling. I enjoyed The Phantom Tollbooth as a child, but realized in college that I couldn't remember anything about it. I read it again and while it was sweet, it was also incredibly weird. I saw a theatrical adaptation that was also very odd. It's similar to Alice in Wonderland in many ways, but with more frightening monsters, and a bit more heart.

I've read it about 6 or 7 times. Last time I was 15yrs old so it has been 11yrs since last I read the book. I agree though, it's definitely a weird book but I love it.
I'm going to have to check out that book narnian1. It sounds pretty good.
Who here is excited of the idea about a live action/animated "The Smurfs" movie? It's apparently in the makes right now.
Long Live King Caspian & Queen Liliandil Forever!

"Rapunzel," on the other hand, is a GREAT story with lots of dramatic potential. And really, I never thought I'd see the day when a Disney princess expressed herself like Alicia Silverstone in Clueless.
ditto . I don't think I'm even going to bother watching this movie. It's letting me down already. I thought it was going to be hand-drawn animation too.
Yeah, at least when most of the people knew and kept our eyes peeled at Rapunzel some of the early pictures came out and it was hand drawn, sort of the way how Giselle was drawn in in her world in "Enchanted" That was the animation they did at first. They were recasting voices too and got a new director or something. This movie should have came out in 2008 so they must have redone it all. And no I don't like its new look although i did find something cool, the guy who plays the voice of Flynn is from the same state as I am.

Yeah, it was supposed to be hand-drawn with Kristin Chenoweth voicing the title role. Now it's CGI with Mandy Moore.
Downgrade much?
Flynn appears to be an interesting character, and I'm glad Disney is trying to infuse the male components of their Princess movies with personalities now, but the whole direction they're taking the story is a major turn-off.
I will see it, but probably not in theaters.

From what I understand, the trailer y'all are mentioning is a bit...doctored, to get a different group of folks interested in the film. I'm not at all sure that the final product is going to end up having that look and feel; after all we've only seen a few tiny bits and from what I saw of concept art and general story line, the scale of the movie is a lot larger and deeper than that.
But then again, that was before the movie got it's title changed, and in the days of computer animation, it's unfortunately quite easy to do major changes to the story late into the game. So we'll just have to see. But I wouldn't be crying doom and gloom yet.
I prefer to think of this trailer as Tangled's version of VdT's movie theater poster (you know, the really misleading one? ). But maybe that's just the optimist in me talking. Because I've really been looking forward to this movie, and I'm going to be quite sad if it does end up being a cheap sell-out.
Yes a story and casting can change in the middle of making a movie at last minute. I was interested in "Rapunzel" but not "Tangled"

Anyone interested in The Social Network? It releases in October, in the US at least.
It is "the movie about facebook". That's what many think and wonder why it needs a movie, and how would it work. I was one of those too for a long time. But then the poster came out, which I ignored at first, but then I read part of an article which actually explained what the movie was about. It caught my interest. The teaser trailer just came out too and I think it "looks" amazing. Can't wait for it

I was watching the Spanish channel this morning and I saw a TV Spot for The Last Airbender and i almost laughed because the music playing along side it was the same music in the PC trailer. I don't know why I laughed but i guess it was just cool to hear that. Also some of the scenes in the TV Spot were new. It really looks like a good movie.
