Spring has finally arrived here in Kansas :D/ . About time as far as I'm concerned. ;)) But the other mods and I often debate our preference of weather. I've become convinced that johobbit, DiGoRyKiRkE, and stargazer are really part polar bear. :P Not me! I like my toasty weather. So, the next couple fun threads will be a two-parter...

Part 1! What's your favorite season?

For me, it's spring, definitely! I think a lot of that has to do with growing up and visiting my grandparents' farm. Springtime meant baby animals and I always LOVED baby kittens, puppies, chicks, ducks, calfs, etc etc. Soooooo cute.

Second, I'm a hater of cold weather and spring means it's getting warm again. :D/

Reason number 3, in the past couple years I've really gotten into gardening and spring means I can go out and get super grubby!!! (I'm afraid I have an irresistible attraction to dirt and mud ;)) Can't help it... it's therapy.)

And finally, spring means thunderstorms! (But that's leading into next week's fun thread ;) )

So there you go. What's your favorite season? Why? :D Have fun!

They're all very close, but I'll have to go with winter. I'm happy whenever the season changes (as long as it is during the proper time) but I'm always happiest when winter arrives.

I chose Fall. Spring is pretty amazing, especially since my birthday's in April, but I just. LOVE. Fall!!

October is probably my most favorite month ever. I like the *slightly* cooler tempatures from summer, I like the fact that I usually do a big shopping trip in Oct to revamp my wardrobe for winter. I love wearing thicker knits, darker colors, and jeans. I like being able to wear awesome coats but not have to worry about my fingers freezing off. I just always feel like something good is going to happen in October! :P

Spring is of course my second favorite season. It's all light and happy and spring-y, and the fact that the snow is melting and my birthday is coming is pretty great. :D

Summer is okay. :P I don't hate it, but I don't LOVE it either. There's just this "intense" feeling surrounding summer for me, like this sort of extreme feeling. Fall is sort of a comforting season for me, Spring is like an "awakening" but Summer just seems like one long loud party. ;)) Which is fun for a while but then you can't hear any more and someone spills a drink down your shirt and you want to leave. :P

Winter...well, I like Christmas! And snow for Christmas. But other then that, I'm afriad I'm NOT a big fan of it. I would probably like it a lot more if it were much shorter, but it always seems to drag on and on. I can't stand being cold, and I hate having to bundle up before going out the door to get the mail, and having to check the weather before driving into town for something.

So there you go! :d

Winter! I love the cold and the snow. I like sledding although I haven't done it in years. I like to shovel snow. Fresh snow is so beautiful. *sighs happily* My allergies really act up in the spring and my body doesn't handle heat well. I'd rather be cold than hot any day. It winter I can snuggle up under blankets and it is much more pleasant to have cats on one's lab in cold weather (and they are more likely to want to snuggle when it is cold). I also have problems with my allergies in fall when the leaves start to fall and mold.

If I had to rank them, it would be winter, fall, spring, and then summer. I do think I would get tired of winter if it lasted too long, especially if there wasn't regular snowfalls.

*one of the part-polar-bears votes* And what do you think? Autumn and Winter, to be sure. I'd like spring better if summer didn't follow ... but it does. :p

To save me repeating myself in full, please note my post in the Meteorology thread, where we were discussing our seasons and our likes and dislikes of each. (Pardon the length: just drop down to the applicable part.)

As much as you hate cold weather, fk, I dislike hot, and especially humid, weather, which is how our summer is comprised.

Okay, let's go from worst to best (imho):

The only good thing about summer ;), I mean summer, is swimming outdoors. And the schedule is more relaxed because of no school. Also, I do enjoy gardening, and summer is one of the main seasons for that, to be sure. But stretches of warm, sunny, blue-sky days bore me. I like adventurous weather. ;))

When the temperatures begin climbing above 10C/50F, I begin thinking of hibernation, and when they get above 15C/59F or 20C/68F, I start to melt ... and the result it that I can become very irritable and grumpy. And no one enjoys being around a grumpy hobbit. ;)) A disgusting hot and heavy day for us is 40C/104F. Ugh and blech and curses upon it. ;;)

Spring is really lovely: the fresh green of the buds, and everything coming alive after being dormant for so long; the scent of freshness and earth, and the planting of the garden in late spring (I'm in Southern Ontario, so it is strongly suggest no one plants until after our long May weekend—the wknd before US' Memorial Day, I believe) because of the risk of frost; some grand rainstorms (I love storms of any type, 'though we do not get too many extreme-type storms up here—rarely hurricanes or tornadoes): we can get some doozers of thunderstorms—including some gorgeous rainbows afterwards—which is so adventurous.

Winter: one of my favourites (pretty much tied with Fall). I thrive and am so motivated in below-freezing temperatures. I love the pure, pristineness of snow (even shoveling it, especially when it's light and fluffy and a lot), and when it's clear: mmmm, those crisp, cold night skies. The winter constellations are the best! I love turning on the white mini lights inside: it's so cozy. I know many people dislike when it gets dark at 5 or so, but I really like it, especially if there is Narnia snow falling against dark evergreens, to clear later to brilliant heavens. Now, driving can be treacherous, though, so that's the one downside, and extra care is needed in our area.

Autumn/Fall: gorgeous. Simply idyllic. The turning of the leaves, the crunch beneath one's feet on hikes through the woods; the almost constant scent of bonfires; the final produce from the harvest is gathered in (*loves Thanksgiving*: Canada's is in October), and the nights getting darker earlier, lending to the treat of viewing the night sky earlier. And ... the summer has fled so no mosquitoes! :D

Well, look at the length. EDIT: So good to see a few other snow/winter lovers here. :D

Polar bear, FK? I don't know if I should be flattered, or if I should come over to kansas and put some ursine hurt on you :P

As was mentioned earlier, I am a total winter lover. Anything above 60 degrees is just too hot for me. Even after the tough winter that we've had as of late I'd still love to see flakes flying.

I really love all seasons (save for summer, which I have always detested), but I dislike them over the long durations that they are. It would be nice if each season lasted only a month (other than the fact that we'd all starve to death for not being able to grow any crops :P) But winter is definitely the best.

There's just something magical about looking at the snowflakes fly through the air, dancing in a most complicated manner as they make their descent to the ground. Winter is the season in which your imagination can run the most wild. No matter what I say about winter, it just doesn't do the beauteous season any justice. Therefore, I shan't continue on :P.

I love Spring!!!! :D
A time of new life, a time of hope. Winters are real rough here and epsecially this winter we had heap and heaps of snow, spring is always a welcome change from the cold. Early spring is my favorite, but later spring is nice to.
I also love early fall

SUMMER!!!! I love it sooooo much! I'm a total beach person and I hate snow and cold so I love the heat. Besides, I'm like cold-blooded or something, so usually I'm actually pretty comfortable in 90 degree weather. I can be seen with up to five layers on during the summer (more like eight during the winter ;) ). I just get cold really easily, so summer heat is nice :) . Plus summer means bike rides, and hikes, and sunbathing, and swimming, and picnics, etc. Summer just means fun and excitement and adventure to me...so I just love it :D . The only bad thing would be bugs :| :p

Spring - Bluebonnets, bbq, horseback rides with frisky horses, ice cream, green everything!

Early Fall - the end of what tends to feel like never ending summer by that point. A glorious break in the heat. Where 85 F starts feeling deliciously cool instead of extremely warm. Frisky horses responding to the cooler temps.

So probably both of those.

I'll just list mine in respective order of which I prefer over the other:

1. Spring- However, I'm half convinced that if I was writing this in Summer, I surely would have said Summer. That spring-fresh green colour is sprouting from trees, a different hue from the ground, the birds have come out, the sun is shining, flowers are coming, and those refreshing rain and thunder storms give us many visits. Such a lovely atmosphere to walk in for my plant-loving self. (That is, walking without the rain. I don't mind walking in soft rain, but when it's pouring and thundering I'd rather be inside reading a book.) We're having a warm, warm spring lately. Got up to eighty degrees here.

2. Summer- (Probably because my birthday is in this one... ;) ) Nice and warm, summer vacation, we can be out more often. But the downside of this is humidity and bugs swarming everywhere. Ugh, and getting a tan, too. The upside is more gentle rains, flowers bloom quite well. I really do relish summer, but because I'm not experiencing summer and it's been two seasons since I have, I can't say more. :P

3. Winter-- Because Christmastime is full in the air! :D The fresh snow is lovely, the nights are magical to be out in, snowflakes are just soo pretty. <3 The only reason I don't like winter as my most favourite is because where I am it's terribly windy, ice comes quickly, and living in the city drags slush into the picture. x.x But otherwise, I looove winter! (I get sick of it in February/March though and I'm pretty unsettled about it in January. ;)) )

4. Autumn-- Anywhere else I'd enjoy it if it was actually a season, but Autumn doesn't stay long here. I do like the name "Autumn" for starters, the colours are beautiful while they stay but school starting, the weather getting chilly, and the days getting shorter is sad for me. The nice side is all the warm colours for Thanksgiving time. :)

In Kenya, though, wither was around June-August time and it really didn't get any colder than 55 degrees. A nice, comfortable temperature of 70 degrees was the weater most of the time. Summers weren't terribly hot, if I remember right...

And, also, I'd prefer to be cold than hot in *some* circumstances, because with cold you can pile up clothes and make yourself warm but in summer there's not many remedies apart from keeping infront of the fan and spritzing yourself with water. ;))

Fall. Definitely fall. I like the crisper weather; I love the colors of the leaves. Spring is a close second (I love flowers and green grass), but summer comes much too soon after and I absolutely melt in heat. I don't like freezing my toes off, but I function much better in cooler weather. And Autumn is almost more of a beginning time than spring because of school starting.

I'm a Spring man. The world has woken from its long slumber and everything is coming alive all at once. If I had to pick the season I hated most it'd probably be Summer...I just don't like walking outside and sweating for no good reason.

Summer just seems like one long loud party. Which is fun for a while but then you can't hear any more and someone spills a drink down your shirt and you want to leave.

=)) . Great description! I'd like to apply it to winter - that's what I call a drag. Where I'm from winter does not mean pretty little snowflakes, or fresh blankets of snow on your front lawn...it means random winter showers, very strong winds, muddy paths, trying anxiously to stuff an umbrella into your already full handbag and coming home with straightened hair in wet, curly rebellion!

Having said that, I'm not a die hard fan of summer either -though I do miss the long summer nights! Maybe I'm not a fan of extremes in general -I love Autumn. :)

I just don't like walking outside and sweating for no good reason.

Haha, Ima have to agree! Though walking outside and shivering for no good reason is just as bad. I think I've been grumpy for lack of sunshine more than once in my lifetime.
