Oh, I'm a taker, I'm a taker. I love board games of all kinds and, quite frankly, I am in the same boat as you: there is not to many people I know who will play board games with me on a regular basis. However, there is one slight problem in me taking you up on your offer: my residence is not exactly around the corner from you. How about a game of internet hearts?! lol

has anyone ever played the game "Mafia"? it's so awesome! I have played several rounds of it with my Youth group!
Please explain it
It sounds very familiar but I know too many games I need to get my bearings straight.
here's how to play Mafia:
everyone (it's best to have at least 10 people to have the most fun) lays down in a circle on there faces (no peeking! ). the one person that is to remain standing hands a card from a normal set of playing cards around, one to each person lying on the floor. anyone with a card that is a regular number (9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2) are "Townspeople". whoever has the Jack is the "Doctor". whoever has the Queen is the "Police Officer". whoever has the King is the "Mafia". the person who handed out the cards says, "Townspeople, go to sleep." everyone lays flat on their faces. then the person says, "Mafia, wake up." (keep in mind that no one knows who the mafia is). the person with the King card quietly sits up. (the person standing is the "Mayor") the Mayor says," mafia, who do you want to kill." the mafia quietly points to a random person of their choice. then the Mayor says, "mafia, go back to sleep." then the mayor says,"doctor, wake up." the person with the Jack card looks up. the mayor says,"doctor, who do you want to save?" (the doctor has no idea who's been killed and has to make the best guess he/she can and points to a random person of their choice). then the doctor is told by the mayor to go back to sleep. then the mayor says, "police officer, wake up." the person with the Queen card looks up and is asked by the mayor, "who do you want to accuse?" the police officer, not knowing who is the mafia, randomly selects a person, then, as instructed by the mayor, goes back to sleep. then the mayor says, "townspeople wake up." everyone sits up and the mayor tells them who was 'killed' by the mafia. if the doctor was lucky enough to actually pick the person who was killed and they are saved, then the person stays in the game. but if the person was killed and the doctor picked the wrong person, then that person is out of the game. then the mayor tells everyone who was accused of being the mafia. if the police officer was lucky enough to pick the right person (that person being the mafia), then the game is over because the mafia is caught. but if the police officer chose the wrong person, the mafia is still on the loose and all the players are asked by the mayor what person they want to (on random) accuse. when that person has been chosen by everyone, then that person has to give an alibi on what they did the night of the 'murder'. then another person is chosen and they too have to give an alibi. all the other players have to choose the person they find the most guilty to be sent out of the game.
it's really fun!

I'm up for a game of anything...any takers?
*raises hand* Me! (I'm in a similar boat too) Unfortunately, I don't live right around the corner either. I'm so desperate for a board game I'm considering set up stuffed animal players. - I suppose I could just wait until my sister finish classes and play something with her. But there are certain games she won't play. @Shadowlander - I haven't played a lot of the games on your list but I'm willing to try any of them except Star Wars Trivial Pursuit (unless I memorize the answers from the cards first. My dad has that game. I've never seen Star Wars so I wouldn't have a hope of getting any right). Also, if there are any that have really graphic pictures I wouldn't want to play those. Just to warn people - I get pretty vicious when I play games. I play to win, but I don't really care if I don't.
I think we need to have a NarniaWeb game party or maybe several located in different places.

My wife and I do that sometimes when we're playing Sorry!. She's got some stuffed frogs and we usually let them play as green.

Yeah, tell me about it.

*thinks* I guess that depends...if you're talking about games containing improper pictures (ie; scantily clad persons) then no, I have none of those. If you're talking about gratuitous pictures of body parts (arms, legs, torsos, etc.) exploding randomly across the gameboard, then no, I have none of those either.

That is a stellar idea. I have a two state radius limit though...so my choices are (as I'm in NC) most of the Southeastern US, perhaps a tiny slice of Kentucky, and southern Indiana, and maybe even a little bit of Maryland or Delaware. How are those for "Boardgame Day" meeting spots?

I love board games too. I really don't understand why cards are so popular. Yes, they're versatile but I just find most card games too confusing and therefore too frustrating. I think it helps to have a mathematical mind when playing cards and frankly, I just don't have one.

Cool! Do the frogs ever win?

I was talking about the latter. I wasn't sure what kind of pictures war games would have.

That's out of my radius. However, if you happen to be visiting your wife's relatives and apply the same radius, that should work for me.
