I loved all the old PBS shows. From Mr. Rogers Neighberhood to Dragon Tales and Reading Rainbow. If I were to list them all my post would be too long! I loved the old Blues Clues and The Magic Schoolbus. THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS RULES! I even liked The Doughnut Man. I watch Full House and I Love Lucy. (Still do!) Scooby Doo and Angelina Ballerina were favorites too. Oh, I almost forgot The Big Comfty Couch was a favorite. If I remember any more I guess I will have to add them to this post!

At malkah, I think I liked Lamb Chop. Honestly I must have been too young to remember, but my mom said I liked it.

I remember everyone one of those and watched several!
Good Times I watched only because I thought JJ was funny..."Dy-no-MITE!". The Jeffersons was classic...I can still remember the intro song and sing it on demand . And while Rerun was is probably the iconic character from What's Happening (he was pretty funny) I always thought Dee was the funniest one in the bunch.
The older Electric Company had none other than Morgan Freeman in the lineup...I remember watching the show in the mid to late 70's and then seeing him on the silver screen years later and thinking, "Hey, it's the guy from the Electric Company!". Were I to try and describe The Electric Company for someone who hadn't seen it before I'd say it was like Sesame Street for slightly older kids, minus the muppets. *sings* "Which one of these kids is doing their own thing..."
Ahhhh Soul Train...how I hated you. Soul Train and American Bandstand both marked the end of Saturday morning cartoons and signaled that it was time to go outside and play. No more Thundarr the Barbarian, Superfriends, and Star Blazers till' the next Saturday.
And Secret Garden I also remember...it was awfully obscure. I remember the intro and these two women sitting on a bench and telling stories to a bunch of kids, but beyond that I don't remember much. It was kind of in the same vein as Romper Room...sorta. And by then I was kind of watching 3 2 1 Contact anyway. I'm getting the strong impression that we must be at or close to the same age...

This is the first show I ever remember watching on TV that was an "older kids" show. It didn't last long after I started watching it though.
Lets see, a couple other shows from my era that I watched a lot of....
Today's Special - As much as I watched this show, I don't remember it being very educational as much as entertaining.
Square One - PBS's math show for kids with (more importantly) it's Mathnet spinoff where detectives solve crimes with math.
Oooo... Mathnet! I loved that show! I would watch Square One just to watch Mathnet. I could have cared less about the rest of the show.
fantasia just mentioned elsewhere Captain Kangaroo. How on earth I could have forgotten him, I have no idea. *adds him to her Favourites list* (Btw, it's good to see another Today's Special 'fan'.)
Just get a load of the Captain, himself.
He could be so goofy and comical—loads of fun—and from my memories as a child, he felt very approachable. And he also shared some very wise words for us children.
One of the main features I remember on his show was when Mr. Moose always 'got him good' with the infamous ping pong balls. (This starts about 1:10 into the video.)
Mr. Green Jeans
and Mr. Moose
were two other favourites.
And who can forget the main music theme song?
Ahhh, memories! Thanks for that fun reminder, fk.
*becomes quite nostalgic*

Speaking of feeling old...
A few of my childhood staples have been mentioned, notably Captain Kangaroo. After grammar/elementary school ended for the day, we'd come home to a local show that was quite similar, Bart's Clubhouse. It aired on the CBS affiliate out of Mason City, Iowa, and included live segments like those on Kangaroo mixed with old cartoon shorts.
Speaking of cartoons, we watched 60s shows like The Herculoids, Space Ghost, Jonny Quest, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Underdog, and others. And I still remember the first thing I saw on a color TV: an episode of Roadrunner.
Occasionally we'd get to watch "grown-up" shows like The Twilight Zone, Mission: Impossible, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and so on.
And don't forget Get Smart.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Can someone please explain to me why there was an American show called Captain Kangaroo when kangaroos are Australian animals and (from what I've heard) there doesn't seem to be any correlation between the two?
Thanks
Just being a curious Aussie.

Doctor Who - Season 11
Woohoo for Get Smart. An intelligent, sly face like this, this, or this
is not easy to forget.
Warrior, this is the reason the host was called Captain Kangaroo, and I quote from IMDB:
"Hosted by Bob Keeshan (at one time, he played Howdy Doody's friend, Clarabell) from the appropriately-named Captain's Place, the Captain was so named because he always wore an overcoat with large, kangaroo-like pouches."

Wait, wait remind me. Was this the show where (I think it was the opening line) was something like: "My name is Monday, my partner's name is Tuesday. This is a Wednesday". It just seems so familiar, but I can't quite place it. There was a segment in here with a Pac-Man spinoff as well right? If this is what I think it is, this was another show I liked to watch on occasion growing up.
And 321 Contact, I can sing the theme song right now , but I couldn't tell you what the show was about. I can't quite remember that far back.

I loved 321 Contact...my 1st grade teacher got me hooked on it and I watched it for several years (this would have been the late 70's and very, very early 80's). It was a science show with each episode covering a variety of different scientific phenomenon and usually had the cast (three 20-somethings) going to different locations to look at said scientific objects of interest. They also had some shorts featuring the Bloodhound Gang, a trio of sleuths who used science to solve mysteries/crimes. It was a pretty cool show!
