Decided to postpone part 2 of the weather fun thread indefinitely as it's too similar to the one two weeks ago and I like variety. So I'm saving it for a rainy day. ;)

So, this week's fun thread: What was your favorite TV show when you were a little kid? (Your personal definition of little is up to you!) I figure with the wide variety of ages we have on the forum will bring up a wide variety of TV shows, but perhaps not. ;)

I think the big winner for me would have to be Reading Rainbow. ;))

Yeah, I was a little bookworm when I was... little. ;)) I watched that show religiously when I got out of school. Sometimes over the summer when I was bored, I'd write down all the names of recommended books and then buzz over to the library to check them all out. I heard recently on the radio that LeVar Burton is trying to bring Reading Rainbow back again!

Ironically I've had that show come to mind many times lately as it introduced me to the book Pinkerton, Behave! by Steven Kellogg. For those of you who follow my adventures with my dog Fiona.... that book is all too accurate. :))

So, what was your fav TV Show from when you were a Kid? Why? ;)

When I was about 5?6? I watched all the kids programs...then my mom decided TV was rotting my brain etc etc and we never really watched much of anything on TV until I was about 13 ;))
However in the brief period of TV watching, I remember loving Magic Schoolbus. That was the main program I remember loving. My favorite episode was the one with the dinosaurs, and everytime we sat down to watch it I would hope and hope and hope that today it would be the dinosaur one. :P

I also remember watching stuff like Arthur, Mr Dressup, and Art Attack, but I don't have such strong memories of those.

^ I suspect Wishbone is going to be a big winner here due to the large quantity book lovers that are about the right age of when that show was on.

Even if I liked Wishbone more than Reading Rainbow (and I DID enjoy that show), I'm a bit too old to vote for it. :P

Ghostwriter
Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers
Ducktales
Looney Toons
Tom and Jerry
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?

I could probably go on, but I'll cut it off right here. ;))

Edit: Oh and MacGyver. I have a lot of good memories tied to that show as it was one of the first evening tv shows my parents ever let me watch with them.

I watched alot of different TV shows when I was younger. Idk which would have been my favorite...scratch that it was Liberty's Kids. I'm a huge history buff, even when I was younger, so what could be better than an animated series about the American Revelution ;) . Other faves were

Reading Rainbow :D
Dragon Tales
Arthur
Super Why
The Donut Man (more of a video series than TV show though...)
Sagwa: The Siamese Cat (I cried when they stopped that show :p )

that's all I can remember right now...

Well *ahem* my kidlet days are a bit further back than most of yours, so here are the shows I watched over the span of 17 years or thereabouts: different ones at various ages. Even my brother and I enjoyed all of these, there are certain shows we never missed, if at all possible—our absolute favourites. These I have put in bold.

Also, for those interested, here is a list of TV shows in the '60s, when I was young, and in the 70s, when I was (obviously :p) a bit older, in my teens. Bring back memories, a few of you? No names mentioned. ;) Some on these lists wouldn't be family shows, but I bet many of the membership here recognizes some of the good ol' oldie-goldies. (And I'm thinking there were probably a good many more family shows then than there are now. 8-| )

Andy Griffith Show
Andy Williams Show
The Beverly Hillbillies
Bewitched
Bob Newhart Show
The Brady Bunch
Captain Kangaroo
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Family Affair
The Flinstones
The Flying Nun
Friendly Giant
Get Smart
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
Gilligan's Island
Green Acres
I Dream of Jeannie
I Love Lucy
Leave it to Beaver
Little House on the Prairie
Mary Tyler Moore Show
Mr. Dressup
My Three Sons
The Partridge Family
Petticoat Junction
The Waltons

Having said that, when my own children were young, I enjoyed with them
Art Attack
Fred Penner
Little Bear
Magic School Bus
Mr. Dressup (yep, he was still on then! As far as I know he was the longest running children's show ever in Canada, around 30 years of new episodes, spanning a couple of generations of avid watchers: he was similar to Mr. Rogers, except with a bit more get-up-and-go ;) )
Today's Special
Under the Umbrella Tree

EDIT: Wups, I just realized fk said 'little kids' in her Intro. Ah well, I'm not going to change my post now. :p ;))

Fireman Sam was, and I suspect still would be, a huge favourite in our house. I even hum/sing the tune to myself now and then. We also enjoyed Art Attack, Popular Mechanics for Kids, The Magic School Bus (although we called it, and still do, The Imaginary School Bus because we don't like the term "magic"), oh, and can I add Fisher Price's Rescue Heroes and Bob The Builder? Those last two are ones that I've discovered some what recently (in the last five years or so) and enjoy very much, even though I'm not a kid anymore. :D The Rescue Heroes are just so cool- Billy Blazes is my favourite. :) And my absolute favourite character from Bob the Builder is Dr. Florence Montfitchett, from the film Bob the Builder: The Knights of Fix-A-Lot. It's so fun to pull out quotes of her's from the film and do it in a dramatic voice and everything. :D (So yes, I still do have quite a bit of little kid left in me... :) )

To briefly mention some of the shows on Mrs. Jo's list, I used to be a fan of The Beverly Hillbillies but I'm not so much anymore, mainly because they do joke about things that I don't really find... all that appropriate. I did like Milburn Drysdale, though. ;) Get Smart is one that we've been watching lately, but we didn't watch it when I was younger...

I know exactly what you mean, FF. Awhile ago on holidays I watched a few of those oldies that I used to think so much fun, and didn't find some of them nearly so appealing anymore. I guess as a youngster some of that questionable humour goes right over our heads ... thankfully.

Did anyone watch "Sesame Street" as a child? My sister did (she is a fair bit younger than my brother and I) after its inception around the late 60s. Is it even still on now?

I blame this on my very influential big brother, but I literally grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series and Freakazoid. :D Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited are all cool as well, but we were older when they came out. We still spend a lot of Sunday afternoons watching them back. (We're big superhero geeks, can you tell? ;) )

When my big brother was off at school, the rest of us watched a lot of normal shows like Mr Dressup and Magic School Bus. Oh, and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. I also remember watching Inspector Gadget. My brother loved that show so much he spent a whole day crying in a corner when they stopped making it. Poor boy. :p

EDIT: Just saw Fred Penner and Sesame Street in jo's post! They were favourites as well. And I think Sesame Street is still on.

My abesolute favorite was Scooby Doo (still like it by the way, although Meerkat Manor topped it on my favorites :p )
I also liked The Magic School Bus, Little Bear, and Liberty's Kids. When I was really little I used to like Barney. Oh and who can forget the Looney Tunes.
