I stumbled across my husbands stash of disco music (ah, the BeeGees) tonight while I was looking for something different to listen to for a change. And it made me think of a rather interesting fun thread for the week. What, in your opinion, is the best disco song of all time?
I've got two that I can't decide between... One has got to be Saturday Night by the Bay City Rollers. It's just so catchy and fun! (Though I'm not really sure it quite classifies as disco )
But the one that makes me want to bust out the disco ball and imitate John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever is Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out For a Hero, which was forever immortalized in Shrek 2.
(Hopefully the younger members on here have parents who still listen to disco music and I haven't excluded them completely. )
aah the BeeGees. Somehow a concert DVD and a few CDs made their way in to our household. And somehow they also made it on to the iPod. And somehow I listened to them. Why? I don't know. The result? I love it! Ooh yes, a teenager who loves disco music. Since I've mainly only listened to the BeeGees my favorite song would probably be Disco Inferno. I don't know if that's well liked or not, but like I said, I haven't listened to alot of it so I don't know many songs. Ah why am I even posting this? It's embarassing! I like rock music! Not disco!
Stayin Alive. No contest. Close second? Does Your Mother Know, by ABBA.
Saturday Night by the Bay City Rollers is close in there. I recall well hearing that when at the roller skating rink.
“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
In the Navy.
*cough*
In general, I'm a fan of Earth, Wind and Fire. "September" is an awesome song, of course, but there's plenty more from where that came from.
And "Y.M.C.A." still never fails to raise a crowd at karaoke night.
Oh, and also "Dancing Queen". But then again, I like a lot of ABBA, so that's not surprising, and they've certainly done more than just disco, though their disco songs are no less fun. (For those curious, their "Voulez-Vous" album has most of their disco stuff, including lesser-known ones.)
Edit: Oh, who am I kidding? "Does Your Mother Know" is ABBA's best disco song.

I know no disco music off the top of my head except for what I've heard from my parent's music collections. ABBA is probably the only one I actually like from that category, "Dancing Queen" is pretty interesting...
I do recall hearing catchy ones like Saturday Night and others, including various artist's names.

#1 for me is "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees. Yep. Love that song ... and the group! Turn on those disco balls and lights!
"We are Family" is a definite, strong favourite of mine, originally sung by Sister Sledge: it has had numerous covers done.
I liked "Dancing Queen" okay, 'though other ABBA songs I enjoy a good deal more. I actually found "DQ" a bit slow for my liking.
Even if one isn't a fan of this style—which I am mostly not—you have to admit, you gotta get up and dance when a good disco song comes on!

Few more I like.
"YMCA" (my dad embarassed me so bad once dancing at Hard Rock Cafe to this song .)
"Dancing Queen" (when I first heard it I hated it but now I can't get it out of my head! )
"We Are Family" (did a dance to this with some of my friends )
"I Will Survive" (I have fond memories of singing/dancing to this with my childhood babysitter )
"Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough"
"Get On the Floor"
"Off the Wall"
"Rock With You" (so catchy )
I'm not really a Disco type person, but I will say that one of my favorites is "Stayin Alive by The Bee Gees"

Answer: There is no "best" Disco song.
Yeah, I'm not one who likes Disco very much. Actually, I borderline despise it. Still, there are a few songs that I can stand:
Stayin Alive ~Bee Gees (more fun to parody this one or try without success at singing the high notes)
Dancing Queen ~ABBA
Umm, yeah, that's it.

Hmm, the best disco song?
"Y....M....C....A..." You can't get any more classic than that.
Although "Stayin' Alive" is a very close second...

My favorite would probably be 'Dancing Queen' by ABBA

Ah, memories of college days.
"Dancing Queen," "Y.M.C.A." and "Stayin' Alive" probably top my list - though "Saturday Night" is quite the earworm.
(Just about any disco song on the ABBA Gold collection ranks up there for me).
But don't forget Disco Duck - not among my 'best' list but strangely memorable.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
For those of you that have no idea what we're talking about, here's a great 'snapshot' of 1970's disco music:

For me: I love ABBA and there are just so many of their songs that I really like:
"Mamma Mia"; "Take a Chance on Me"; "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!"; so many more...
Then, of course, "YMCA"; "Car Wash"; "We Are Family"; "That's the Way I Like It"; "Disco Inferno"; and the great "I Love the Nightlife (the Disco 'Round)"
Love God, love people
My favorites are "You Should Be Dancing" by Bee Gees and "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge. I acually like disco.
