My favorite national anthem is Guatemala's!!! Here is a link to it with amazing footage:
"Are you sure you're eighteen?"
"Why? Do I look older?"
My favorite is the Star Spangled Banner. I love my country, I'm very biased
Without a doubt the national anthem of the United Kingdom- God Save the Queen. (Or God Save the King when we have a King...) Canada's national anthem is alright, but I like God Save the Queen better.
Dear days of old, with the faces in the firelight,
Kind folks of old, you come again no more.
(Robert Louis Stevenson)
Thanks for the link to the Guatemalan anthem! There's always something cute about kids singing songs.
One of my favorite parts of watching the Olympics is the medal ceremonies - the pride and happiness of the competitors as they listen to their country's anthem and see their flag raised. And though I like "The Star-Spangled Banner" as much as any other American, I'd like to see more TV coverage of medal ceremonies for other countries.
Some of my favorite anthems include:
Russia - this majestic anthem uses the same melody as that of the old Soviet Union but with new lyrics. The Moscow State Chamber Choir gave this a cappella performance at the closing ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Canada - I've always liked this one. Check out this a cappella version of "O Canada" by Michele Yuen.
Germany - Westerners may recognize this 1797 Joseph Haydn tune as John Newton's hymn "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken." This version has all three verses with lyrics, including the first verse that begins "Deutschland Uber Alles" which was outlawed after WWII; now the third verse is the "Deutschlandlied's" official lyrics.
Australia - Some consider the singing (by Human Nature and Julie Anthony) of "Advance Australia Fair" at the 2000 Sydney Opening Ceremony to be among the best in Olympic anthem performances. The anthem itself begins around 2:30 in this clip. Gives me goosebumps - it would have been great to have been there!
Finland - "Honorable mention" in the sense that Jean Sibelius's Finlandia isn't the official anthem. Maamme is, by convention, though some Finns have urged a change to "Finlandia," much like some Americans have proposed a change to "America" ("My Country 'Tis of Thee" - which uses the same tune as "God Save The Queen"). Again, Westerners may recognize the melody of "Finlandia" as the beloved hymn "Be Still, My Soul."
Check out this youtube channel for a lot of national anthems, some with translations into English.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!
I love the USA nation anthem! I love America
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
memento mori
I like too the America's national anthem But I kinda find the Chinese anthem maybe cute too, with the language they speak I am sure it is cute but not funny because I respect them
"Two sides of the same coin"
Great topic! I heard anthems I've never heard before!
Well... I can't help to say that my favourite anthem is my countrie's (Argentina)! Here's a link:
(I don't like the singer but it's the only one I found with english subtitles).
I also like France's anthem, "La Marseillaise". But, really, I think all of the anthems have a special beauty
Thanks to malkah for the lovely avatar!

Well, I guess America is winning so far I don't know...maybe I would like the Star Spangled Banner better if they didn't make us sing it every day in school! When I went to school in Guatemala, they only made us sing it at assemblies once a month, so it's more enjoyable to listen to because we weren't "exposed" to it as often. And believe me when I say, there is no offense intended by my comments
"Are you sure you're eighteen?"
"Why? Do I look older?"
"Oh say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave, for the land do the free, and the home of the brave!"
it doesn't get any better than that, IMO
here's a link to the USA anthem for those who have not heard it:

It's a tie between The Star Spangled Banner and Kenya's national anthem for me.
Kenya's Nation Anthem's lyrics make me quite thrilled,
(the first two)
"O God of all creation, bless this our land and naiton.
Justice be our shield and defender.
May we dwell in unity, peace and liberty.
Plenty be found within our borders.
Let one and all arise, with hearts both strong and true.
Service be our earnest endeavour.
And our homeland of Kenya, our heritage of splendour.
Firm may we stand to defend it."

You like the Russian national anthem, wow! I like it too, except it is a bit long. They also use a bunch of complicated words, but I guess that's what makes it beautiful
I also really like the Ukrainian national anthem. It's very nice!

I've noticed that the performances I've found online always seem to include all three verses. Is that typical? (for comparison, "The Star-Spangled Banner" has several verses as well, but usually only the first is performed).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I'll have to go with the crowd and say The Star Spangled Banner, as I am biased as well.
No human being will ever know the Truth, for even if they happen to say it by chance, they would not even known they had done so.
Are the majority of people on this site American? I wasn't sure and was just curious...

"Why? Do I look older?"
