I can't really help with the recommendations, since I only have one song of theirs, but they are Christian. I believe they are based out of Lifehouse church, but I'm not positive about that.
Okay, cool! Then I'll definitely get an album! When I order an CD from an artist that isn't at least alternative Christian, I like to get to know them a little better.

Elanor, Lifehouse is not explicitly Christian, but the lead singer (Jason Wade) is an MK, and several of their songs ("Everything", "Storm", "By Your Side") could be about God. They could also be about humans; but they would have to be pretty special humans.
Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk humbly now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it. - Rabbi Tarfon
Arwenel, I haven't heard The Wind that Shakes the Barley yet, but I quite like Loreena McKennitt's music. She's rather conducive to being able to think about/work on other stuff while you're listening to her. She kind of fits in as my comfort music since I associate her with long car drives (especially at night), thunderstorms, and the calm when you're trying to fall asleep.
Eowyn of Lantern_Waste, I'm not really familiar with Loreena McKennitt's version of "The Star of the County Down", but I really like all the other songs you listed! I am also particularly fond of "The Old Ways", "Standing Stones", "Stolen Child", and "Lullaby".
I've only heard a few of Hayley Westenra's songs, but I've liked what I heard. I also like Clannad though I don't listen to them that often. Have you ever heard of Capercaillie? They're another Celtic band, one I'm a bit more familiar with and I quite like.
God rest you merry, gentlemen,
Let nothing you dismay.

When we were gone astray.
Elanor, yeah isn't Il Divo great!! We have all their albums and I believe that they are bringing out a new one at the end of this year - or so I've heard! Hayley Westerna is really good although I only have one of her cd's. I really like her version of "Sunny."
ValiantArcher I love "The old Ways" and "Stolen Child" too!! I haven't heard the other two but I'm going to youtube them asap!! I haven't heard of the other band you refered to but I'm going to youtube them too. Do you like Amici? I find them ok. One of my best friends who is a beautiful singer sang "Whisper of Angels" at her own wedding and I really love that song but I'm not so keen on the other stuff they do. I don't listen to Clannard that often either but I like a fair bit of their stuff. Have you heard "I see Red?" I've no idea what it's about but it's a nice tune
I don't know if anyone out there listens to Australian country music When I was little we used to listen to MASSES of Slim Dusty I don't mind some of it - Lee Kernaghan is all right.
Do you love "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes?
If so you might like to see my sister's dramatization of this poem through her photography!

Yeah, I just meant Christian based - alternative Christian. Thanks for the info!

Oh cool, I'll have to listen to more of their music, so I can be inspired to buy their new CD.
I am a huge fan of Michael Buble - though I usually don't like his style of music, he's just great.

Okay, so lots of bands I've heard of!
Basically, everyone mentioned on this page I think I have a couple songs of and like. One that hasn't been replied to I think:
Arwenel: Yes, I've heard of Mumford & Sons. A few of my friends are big fans... I'm not a huge fan, but I don't dislike them. I like The Cave and Awake My Soul. I don't care much for Little Lion Man, but I do like a clean live version I've heard... Can't find it now, or I'd post it for you. It uses "messed it up" instead of the other.
Anyways... I've been listening to a lot of "Indie" music lately:
Arcade Fire, Iron & Wine, Belle & Sebastian, Sufjan Stevens.
Also some Sigur Ros, Freelance Whales, Noah and the Whale...
And ... The Rocket Summer, One Republic, Paramore, Copeland...
And can't leave out the old faves like Relient K, Red, Skillet, Josh Groban and Lecrae. 😉

*sneaks in after a year's absence from this tempting thread*
I just wanted to say that I'm going to get to go to a The Civil Wars concert this summer and I'm super psyched about it!
And, Mumford & Sons are amazing! Except, I skip Little Lion Man, too much language for me. Other than that, my library has been slowly expanding with random this and thats. Haha. I'm on Last.fm, if anyone REALLY cares what all I've been listening to.
*scampers out happily chattering about The Civil Wars*

Queen Susan: Nice work! Those are all fabulous bands! I'd like to get more into Noah and the Whale. Do you have a favorite song? What's your favorite Arcade Fire song?
That's funny, whenever I sing 'Little Lion Man' in my head I say "messed."
LL: Jealous, The Civil Wars are absolutely amazing. I would love to see them live. You'll have to report back. I see you're listening a bit to The Graduate. They're pretty awesome. If you like them, you might enjoy Halos. They're very good. Try "Amalgam."
I got to go to a Lakes concert this week and oh my goodness they were beyond incredible. Their sound was even more precise and polished than on the record. The guitar was just incredible and the heaping of accordion over anything was wonderful.
LL: Aw, we had some friends that went to a Civil Wars concert just last Wednesday... I couldn't go, but it was sort of disappointing not to. And it was in the town/city where we go at least twice a week. Very near...
Hope you have fun when you go!! 😀
Kate: I'm afraid I haven't listened to either Noah and the Whale or Arcade Fire enough to say which ones are my favorite yet! But when I do I'll try and let you know. 😉

I've been listening to a few songs by a new British group, Mumford & Sons. It's kinda folksy-sounding, and not entirely to my taste, but i've been listening to their song The Cave over and over again the past few days. Anyone else listening to them?
(Quick note of warning: one of their songs, "Little Lion Man", uses a particularly harsh/obscene word in the chorus; i'm not aware of any other issues in their songs.)
Bought 2 CDs lately - "How to Save a Life" by The Fray, and "Lifehouse" by ... Lifehouse. I really like Lifehouse as a band (love almost all of their CD "Smoke and Mirrors"), but so far there aren't really any stand-out songs for me on their eponymous CD, except "You and Me". I wouldn't necessarily call myself a fan of The Fray, but there are a few songs on that CD i like as well. I suspect if i listen to them more, i'll find some more i like on both CDs.
Oh, also bought a Loreena McKennitt CD recently - "The Wind that Shakes the Barley". I like the general sound of her music, but i tend to think about other things while listening to music, so i'm not sure what i think of this CD yet.
mumford and sons have been around sicne 2007. I guess they haven't become known in america until this year. to be fair though they didn't release an album to 2009.
I've been listening to Mumford & Sons non-stop! I showed them to my sister today, & I think she has Dust Bowl Dance memorized already. I love them all, especially The Cave, Winter Winds, Roll Away Your Stone, Dust Bowl Dance, Awake My Soul...well, all of them I guess. Except Little Lion Man.
I've been listening to all 3 Leeland albums for the past month now. These guys are a really good Christian band! They're kinda like Tenth Avenue North, but a little more rocky and sound variant. My favorites are: (in order of album)
-Pure Bride
-New Creation
-Lift Your Eyes Up
-Weak Man
-Count Me In
-Let It Out Now
-Opposite Way
-Falling For You
-Sound of Melodies
-Yes You Have
-Tears of The Saints
I've also been listening to a little Andrew Peterson. The Reckoning (How Long) is a really good song! Mountains, & Fool With A Fancy Guitar is really good, too.
There's another band called Nevertheless that is really good! They are kinda like Switchfoot, where they sing openly about faith, but it's not their "label". That gets annoying & confusing sometimes. I'm just gonna call them a Christian band, since they talk about God & life from a Biblical point of view (that's my definition of a Christian band). My favorites are:
-Sleeping In (it's really catchy!)
-It's True
-Long Shot

I like patrick stumps solo song nearly as much as fall out boy songs. I can't wait for the soul punk album release i don't know what the deal was with that other random album.
Pendragon: Ooh, I have "Sleeping In" by Nevertheless, and I really like it. I haven't heard anything else by them yet though...

^Yeah, that's a good song. I've also been listening to lots of Sufjan Stevens. I've been mostly listening to the albums Michigan, Chicago, Seven Swans, & Age of Adz. I just recently got Age of Adz, which I am loving! I especially like Futile Devices, Age of Adz, I Walked, Get Real Get Right, & Impossible Soul. Impossible Soul is 25 minutes long, but it's really good! It's like 5 songs in one. My favorite part is from about 1200. The only song I don't like on that album is I Want To Be Well. It has pretty much the same problem as Little Lion Man. "Uses a particularly harsh/obscene word in the chorus".

I love Leeland, I saw them in concert a few years ago, opened for Casting Crowns- it was an amazing concert.
Dancing In the Minefields is the only one I've heard of AP and I love it.
As for Ntl, They have several songs I like. It's unfortunate that they disbanded at the end of 2009. Songs I like of them: The Real, Live Like We're Alive, and Sleeping In. I've not heard anything else actually.
