I've been enjoying the fall weather and leaves of late! Today, on our daily walk, the air felt distinctly fall-like, like it had finally come to stay. The leaves are slowly but surely changing color. I noted many more golden trees than I did yesterday. And there's a carpet growing on our front lawn. Such lovely colors! My favorite are the bright red trees which stand out amidst all the burnt yellows, pale taupe, and browned leaves.

Indeed it is low stargazer! I was suprised to not see anyone attempt wading across yesterday as I have seen in other years.
I already awoke to frost during the rendezvous. Not real thick on anything, but definitly there. Makes for an interesting walk in the middle of the night to check if the outhouse door works.
I still hold to the opinion that we will see a much harsher winter this year.

"Unprecedented heat finally coming to an end" says our local weather site. 97.3F/36.3C yesterday and already 92.3F/33.5C before noon today. But the temperature are supposed to drop 10F-15Fdegrees by the weekend.

Yay for fall weather and maybe some rain next week! B-)

You stay inside and chat with us on Nweb. :P ;))

You got it! ;)

But the front is kind of sitting on top of us so it's been cloudy and dreary here.

That's where we're at now: warmer temperatures have set in (warmer for us, that is ;))—around 22C/71.6F), along with a slow-moving low pressure, bringing thick, grey skies, fog (and related horns over the lake, which I love), drizzle, and rain for the next couple of days. Then dropping cold on this Canadian Thanksgiving weekend to a possible low of 2C/25F on Sunday night. woohoo! There will probably be frost a few miles north of us, but I doubt where we are because of the lake's tendency to moderate. And cottage country could see wet snow flurries this weekend. Thanksgiving's odd here: it can be almost humidly warm or very cool ... not often inbetween.

Fall colors are advancing nicely...so many destinations.

Yes, indeedy. The colours so far are stunning and there should be a few weeks to go as many have yet to turn. Hopefully there will be some more hikes in that time. Last Sunday it did not rain, as forecasted, so we hiked a small part of the 900 km/560 mi of the Bruce Trail, climbing up the rather steep, very rocky path of the escarpment at one point. The scenery and vista laid out before us of blushing trees was gorgeous!

Strange thing, I can go down one block, and see a fully red maple. Then look at the same sort in my own yard, and only one branch has changed.

'Tis true! As I look out now, some trees are quite advanced, whilst others have not yet even begun.

The fall colors have turned truly spectacular over the past week or so (rather to my surprise since early predictions said the drought would keep them dull)

Yes, this is a lovely surprise. :D

Enjoy those fall colors; they're so fleeting!

Hear-hear!

Mmmm, Bella, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your descriptive autumnal paragraph. Lovely!

I still hold to the opinion that we will see a much harsher winter this year.

And I really hope that what you suspect will be the case. Not another wimpy weather, but a good, snowy, vibrant one (with safety all around!).

Glimmie, 'tis good to hear that your heat is finally abating! :D

:D

Yes it is, LOTS. :) Yesterday we actually went up to 98.1F/36.7C but today is down to around 91F/32.8C and by next Monday the high is supposed to be only 76F/24.4C.

Slowly but surely we are getting to normal Fall temperatures.

It's hard to even comprehend such heat this time of year. ;)) I salute you!

It was 80F/27C here yesterday - and one cold front later, we're looking at windchills of 30F/-1C or so today. What a dramatic change! Wind gusts exceeding 40 mph/65 kph are blowing a lot of the leaves off the trees.

Winter is coming! Frost - and possibly a few snowflakes - are in our future over the next 36 hours or so.

Then again, winter has arrived in North Dakota and northern Minnesota, with snow and similar winds creating whiteout conditions. 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) of snow is expected.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Supposedly we have had our last 90 degree day for the year. That makes us all happy.

The weather in Colorado was really good. Almost needed my coat. I hear they got snow this weekend though.

Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

Wow, has it cooled off here! Today's high is 48F. Brrrrr.... And tonight it's supposed to freeze so we've been burying our strawberries and herbs in straw, as well as moving our outdoor potted plants into the greenhouse.

But it should warm back up a fair bit by next week (60Fs and 70Fs) so it'll feel like Fall again instead of Winter. :)

Hurrah! It must be so much more bearable there now. :D And for you too, Fencer. :)

Speaking of fall temperatures, we may be getting our first frost tonight—our lowest night temperature yet this fall (1C/33.8F), albeit a light one, which reminds me I need to pick any ripe tomatoes yet today. There are so many green ones there, but I fear they may soon be spoiled in a larger frost.

Amazing to think of that snow in ND and MN, stargazer, wow!

*hands fantasia a hot water bottle* ;)

By Sunday we are up in the high 60s again, but 'tis for a very brief spell—that day only.

A couple of autumn pics from around our house:

*One-diagonally across from the front of our house
*Two-the rising sun behind burning autumn trees from our backyard

Our crimson maple (always a late turner) has just begin to bronze in some sections, but it'll be awhile before this beauty is completely turned.

Love those fall color pictures, jo! (So that's what a sunrise looks like. ;)) I'm definitely not a morning person).

We've had several below-freezing nights now, with a town about an hour northwest of here getting down to 19F/-7C this morning.

After a hot summer and warm September, the last week has been seriously below average. It remains extremely dry, with barely any measureable precip since August (last month was the second-driest September on record - 0.03 inches. Around here, that's remarkable!)

The forecasts all week have been focused on that big low pressure center coming from California, with a potential of significant rain tomorrow. Now it looks like it may pass too far south to bring us more than a trace of rain.

Most of our fall color has passed, though a glance out the window shows some nice maple leaves yet. They make such a pretty contrast with the bright blue sky...

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

We have just had a visit from a blast of Antarctic air. Snow on the Blue Mountains, at Glen Innes on the Nothern Tablelands, closer to the Queensland border. Canberra, our national capital, was snowed under. I don't know how Victoria and Tasmania did. I heard talk of snow in South Australia.

Up to the day before yesterday we have had a lovely standard October Spring. But the snow is freaky.

It has been, LOTS. But we are in for a few more days of heat this week. It is supposed to be 90F/32.2C to 100F/37.8C from Monday through Thursday and then back down to normal again.

But it has been cooler in the mornings and takes longer to heat up. :)

Ahaha! And they're beautiful. But then, so are sunsets. ;)

Yes, don't they?! :D Also, I have found the opposite, that on a very grey day like yesterday, the colours stand out so much in contrast, both the trees and any flourishing autumn flowers, such as marigolds and mums. So pretty.

But it has been cooler in the mornings and takes longer to heat up. :)

That's a step in the right direction. :D Wishing you further cooling down over this weekend. (Whew, those high temperatures sound terribly hot right now to we who are down in the low-mid 50s. #:-s )

Wow, wagga, that sounds very unusual!

We're warming up a bit on Monday (18C/64.4F), and next week is all over the place, dipping cooler some days, warmer others ... 'though never above 65F. We are getting a good amount of rain these days—some every day for over a week, intermingled with brilliant sunshine. And ooh, the fog (and foghorns over the lake ♥) early this morning was so mysteriously lovely.

EDIT: We did have a light frost last week, but have yet to have our first heavy one. Sure doesn't look like it's going to happen this coming week.

Must mention too how much I adore the aroma of autumn: the earthy, wet leaves, bonfire, crisp air smell is simply delicious! Can't quite get enough of it. :)

The past couple days we've had some very strange weather for October. Yesterday it hit 90F :-o was very humid and VERY windy. (Actually last week it was so windy the sky turned a lovely dirty brown. :-s ) Today is much the same as yesterday only a little bit cooler, currently 82F.
But tonight we have a cold front moving through and tomorrow's high is supposed to be 56F. We'll have a lot of good chances for freezing temperatures overnight later this week and over the weekend, so we'll see what happens.

I saw that high on yesterday's weather map and was pretty astounded, fantasia! It's amazing enough that it's in the 70s here so late in October...

That front will also drop our temps into the 20s this weekend (for nighttime lows). Snow is hinted at in the forecast too.

I awoke yesterday morning to a sound little heard this summer - a thunderstorm and rain! Nice to hear it after all this time. Now southern Minnesota is socked in with fog due to the rain and relatively warm temps.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
