Fall is definitely in the air here as well, with temps settling back into the mid-60s F (around 18C) after Tuesday's record heat. The fall color reports are already up online, though some of them are due to drought stress rather than seasonal change.

And the self-proclaimed "Nation's Icebox," International Falls, Minnesota, reported the lowest temperature in the Lower 48 this morning...

*drumroll* ...A toasty 27F/-3C. Sounds wonderful! :) Can winter be far away?

And after a warm weekend here (highs in the mid-80s F/28C range), it'll be significantly cooler here next week as well...our first frost could come then.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

I hope the weather cools down for you soon, Glim!

"A strong high pressure dome continues its dominance" is what our local weather site says. So nothing but 90F/32C to 100F/38C for another week; although it is supposed to be getting cooler at night. B-)

Whew, GlimGlum! That's toasty.

We topped out at a windy 70F/21C today - the warmest day of the week. The leaves are beginning to change color, the humidity is gone, and the days and nights are crisp and clear (or at least partly cloudy). Wonderful!

And now for something completely different: a 'fire tornado' caught on video in the Australian Outback. Very cool!

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

It was a very pleasant 70F today. And yesterday and Monday it was in the mid to upper 60s and rainy. Awesome weather! B-)

It's suppose to be in the upper 70s the next couple of days and then cool off again. :)

Yes indeed, Mr. gazer. Definitely tired of the heat here. Since I posted that on the 15th the highs have been 15th thru the 20th: 97.9F/36.6C, 92.8F/33.8C, 91.8F/33.2C, 94.1F/34.5C, 96.1F/35.6F, 96.8F/36C.

The good news is that Monday we are supposed to go below 90F thru Wednesday. I can't wait! #:-s (I think I would prefer SnowAngel's temperatures right now.) :)

There is a teeny tiny bit of fall in the air and I saw some leaves that had turned a blush of orange/pink/scarlet. They were so beautiful. :D Everything is slowly but surely changing colour.

Indeed and hurrah! I'm so glad the processes of autumn don't happen within a few days, but rather weeks. Every morning it's fun to see what small changes, even, have taken place in the past 24 hours.

Wowser, that fire tornado is really something, stargazer. What a sight!

It sounds like you're definitely heading into fall too, SnowAngel. :D

#:-s Glim, that's mighty hot! I feel for you. I'm glad you can look forward to below 90 next week.

Not to rub it in or anything ;), but a couple of nights here have have dropped to 8C/46F, which are glorious! Today is almost muggy, though (feeling like a sticky 25C/77F), but a big change is coming overnight with more rain and the temperatures lowering to 18C/64F tomorrow and cooler on Sunday, probably around 14C/57F but feeling colder with brisk winds and rain ... very fall-ish. I was hoping to get out on a hike on Sunday, but the precipitation is supposed to be quite intense, so I don't think that's going to happen this week.

We're heading up to Mennonite country tomorrow (1 & 1/2 hours NW of us), and I can imagine the rolling hills and serene countryside will be blushing with fall colour already. :D

Supposedly we are now finished with our 90 degree heat. Today is supposed to be 89 and stay in the upper 80's for the rest of the week. We might get some heavy rain this weekend as the tropical depression that is hitting the Baja California may be heading our way. Tuscon was the last I heard where it was heading but it's supposed to send something towards El Paso too. But I'll miss the rain as I leave for Colorado on Thursday.

Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

'Tis likely we're finished with 80-degree heat, though it's possible such heat could return briefly before the snow flies. ;))

Did you enjoy your weekend trip, jo? It sounds like a lot of fun.

In these parts the rest of this week looks dry and pleasant (60s), and the fall colors are continuing to advance, so I'm contemplating outdoor activities these days...fall color trips with campfires and stargazing, maybe another camping trip, and even some outdoor baseball next weekend as the Twins wrap up their season.

Snow did fall over the weekend in areas north of here (Duluth, MN recorded 0.2 inches Friday) but it didn't last long since the ground is still warm. Surely a sign of things to come, however.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Yes, I think we finally are. :)

We had awesome weather today. It rained for several hours this morning and it was dark and stormy. Lots of the lighting and thunder. :) Then this afternoon it was about 73F and mostly sunny. Very nice weather for being outside. :)

Mmm, I adore storms. Sounds lovely, SnowAngel.

How is the Colorado weather, Fencer? Very different from your area of TX, I'm guessing. ;)

I wish it could have been the entire weekend, but it was just for Saturday afternoon. :) The gusty cloud formations were amazing. The day had a definite chill in the air and, as we anticipated, the hills were beginning to be awash with the first blushes of colour. Add to that Amish carriages meandering by makes the place is almost idyllic.

I think our last warm day of the season is probably behind us now. :D The days are settling in to temperatures around 15C/59F (give or take) and the nights dropping to a beautiful 6C/42.8F. As for the night sky in that clear air ... awesome!

stargazer, interesting to hear that Duluth got a bit of snow, albeit fleeting. Really cool (literally ;))).

Almost daily one can see changes in the leaf colours here, albeit very gradually. I don't like to see Autumn rush by, so I'm reveling in each day. Still not sure how I last each summer with the humidity and thick air. Thankfully it's a relatively short season here, but even one day of that is one day too much. :P

We don't have any significant amount of rain in the forecast, only spitters and spatters here and there. Oh, wait, I just heard the forecast and Sunday is looking very grey and rainy. So much for a hike this Sunday as well. ;))

You stay inside and chat with us on Nweb. :P ;))

We had that massive front that's trekking across the country go over us a couple nights ago. We got some very nice rain here (2.5" I believe) along with a great lightning show and some puny pea sized hail. But the front is kind of sitting on top of us so it's been cloudy and dreary here. I definitely miss seeing the sun.

Well that's how I do it :P

Same old Oswego weather... rain half of the week, sunny for about a quarter, windy constantly. Fall's starting to kick in though... I can smell it and feel it. The T-shirt's days are numbered XD

Ah, staying indoors and cool whilst on the internet rather than braving the summer sauna (remember "air you can wear" ?) - sounds familiar!

The day had a definite chill in the air and, as we anticipated, the hills were beginning to be awash with the first blushes of colour. Add to that Amish carriages meandering by makes the place is almost idyllic.

Sounds loverly - and idyllic for sure! :)

Today was yet another in a seemingly endless string (around here, that's about a week ;)) ) of gorgeous days. Slightly warmer (almost 80F) over the weekend, clear skies, with nary a raindrop in sight for the next week. Ideal weather for leaf peeping, but not a drought breaker.

Fall colors are advancing nicely...so many destinations. Among tomorrow's tasks are a walk or two in local parks along with planning a longer trip (or two or three) over the next week or so. It won't be long before the leaves are gone!

In from the great outdoors. At least the part that's in my back yard in any event.
The Mrs. has her sister over for the weekend, and I practiced my flint-and-steel to start a fire for supper. Brats, and chips followed by marshmellows. No smore's unfortunatly, as we are out of chocolat.
Hardly any breeze to speak of, and the temps still in the 60's. Clear skies too, with a moon that's looking mighty full.
I too have noticed the fullness of color in the trees my dear hobbit. Strange thing, I can go down one block, and see a fully red maple. Then look at the same sort in my own yard, and only one branch has changed. Though I expect to come home from work one day to see the whole thing a brilliant crimson. Or in a pile on the lawn.
With the lack of rain the "mighty" Mississippi is dwindling a bit. We plan on going along the shoreline/riverbed on Sunday to hunt for agates. Be about that time a flash flood comes through I suppose.

The river sure is low, isn't it, Puddleglum!

I was at Interstate State Park (by Taylors Falls, about an hour north of the Twin Cities) yesterday, and the St Croix is just about the lowest I've ever seen it.

The fall colors have turned truly spectacular over the past week or so (rather to my surprise since early predictions said the drought would keep them dull). The maples in our apartment complex's parking lot are turning brilliant shades of gold, orange, and red.

The past few days have seen temperatures between 70-80F (21-27C), but quite comfortable given the very low humidity. A big change is on its way though: Wednesday will be close to 80F, Thursday might reach 55F (12C) and Friday may bring our first frost with highs only around 48F (9C). Accumulating snow is expected in northeast Minnesota.

Enjoy those fall colors; they're so fleeting!
