Air you can wear...
That's how one TV meteorologist described the soupy humid air over us at the moment. Just think, people pay to use a sauna when they can simply walk outside and get the same effect for free.
It was 'only' 98F/37C yesterday, and the next few days will be in the 80s before 90s/100s return again this weekend.
The other problem is that the high humidity doesn't allow it to cool off at night. Lows around 80F/27C make it awful hard for those without AC to sleep.
But in 6 months it could easily be 120F colder than it is right now.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Here's hoping you're right about that last paragraph .
We're supposed to get up to 95 degrees today, with heat indices getting close to touching the "century mark."
And the drought is getting so bad around here. Today marks the one month mark since we mowed our grass. The Black Cherry trees usually have berries this time of year, but this year they are just little shriveled orange things.
Here's hoping that with the early spring, and early summer that we'll have an early cool, crisp, wet fall and an early, cold, SNOWY winter!!!

Was a bit cooler today compaired to yesterday in the upper 90's. Unfortunatly it was much more humid. I guess we can count our blessings we did not get both at the same time.
Air you can wear? I must remember that one stargazer.
We've got a 50/50 chance for rain this afternoon/evening! I'm really hoping that this pans out! Yesterday's temps were awful, and there are nineties in the forecast again for this weekend

rain, rain and more rain, it rains at least twice every day, at times more. We had thunderstorm yesterday, it didn't last very long, but the wind was so strong and it rained SO hard. Even when it's not raining, it's usually cloudly, with the sun popping out now and then, which to tell you the truth is rather weird for July weather. Usually, it's VERY hot in July.
I hope you get some rain soon Digs
always be humble and kind
We got our first solid thunderstorm several nights ago. It was lovely, and I stayed awake to listen to it, even opening up the windows so I could smell the rain.
Today, however, the temperature is supposed to be in the 100s. This has been one beastly summer. I've been keeping to the basement mostly, where it's actually cool, and haven't been getting much exercise in because it's so hot. Blech!
I, for one, cannot wait until winter rolls 'round. Snow sounds absolutely wonderful right about now.

Ditto about winter, Miss Rosario! Only 51 days till our possible snow season begins.
Statistically, this is our warmest week of the year. The high humidity (dewpoints in the mid-70s F) have actually held temperatures down a little compared to a couple weeks ago, so that we're only in the 90s rather than low 100s. But it's still 'air you can wear.'
We're at the north edge of that large high-pressure center causing the central US drought and heat wave, so we have the occasional storm tracking along its borders...some of those have brought torrential rains that come so fast the parking lots and yards flood before it all runs off.
An approaching 'cold' front will bring tolerable weather (highs around normal and lower humidity) for a couple days this weekend before the heat returns early next week. I suspect there will be at least one recreational campfire this weekend.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
What odd weather, especially compared to the previous few weeks, when it was dry, dry, dry and hot, hot, HOT: now, however, it is very humid for a few days, then a tremendous storm rolls through, bringing rain, which we sorely needed. Last night was the most significant so far. 'Though I haven't heard the total mms, I heard it pouring throughout the night from 1 a.m. on. Today is drizzling off and on. So thankful for this precipitation!

Indeed, lol! Now, that's a very apropos saying for some of those days in earlier-mid July that were brutally oppressive.
But in 6 months it could easily be 120F colder than it is right now.

You know, I've thought a lot about this in the past few weeks.
Here's hoping that with the early spring, and early summer that we'll have an early cool, crisp, wet fall and an early, cold, SNOWY winter!!!
Yes, Yes, YES!!! And add "long" to that list of adjectives.
Wow, wild rose, it sounds like you're getting a lot more rain than much of North America is this summer.

Very nice. We had one last Sunday, but it was minimal compared to last night's, which was spectacular. This pattern should continue through Saturday morning. Lovely! Except then the humidity starts building again. However, this *is* July, but we're heading for August, yay!
Enjoy that campfire, stargazer!

It's so hot here, right now the tempurate is 98F with a heat index of 109F. We do have 50% chance of rain, but I think it might miss us although I hope it doesn't.

Today was actually quite barable. Upper 70's with lower humidity.
It is supposed to return to normal by Monday, hot, and humid that is, so I hope to get some outside chores done this weekend.
We did indeed have a pleasant fire Friday night. That day, and Saturday, were reasonably pleasant.
We were in the mid-90s again today, with the heat index around 100F. *sigh*
Yesterday's (July 31) record high is 105F/41C in 1988, which marks the highest air temperature I've experienced in Minnesota (I've experienced warmer weather in other states and higher heat indices here). That record still stands as the highest air temperature recorded in the Twin Cities since the Dust Bowl years of the 1930s.
Heat and humidity remain on tap the next couple days, with another pleasant weekend possible.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Snow Angel, did you end up getting any rain that day? Hope so! Ugh, that's awfully high humidity.
Isn't that true, Puddleglum?! I work like a busy beaver outside as soon as there is any let-up in the heat, and then closet myself inside when it is once again upon us (which it is now, in full force ).
Same here, stargazer, except, as is expected, a day or two after your area. Very hot and humid through Sunday (tomorrow being the worst at 41C/105.8F with the heat index), but thankfully on that latter day thunderstorms should prevail, bringing the air quality to a more comfortable level on Monday.
The nights aren't cooling down, which is miserable, as it's so nice to be outside in the evenings when it's pleasant, but this thick weather does not allow for that. At least we're getting rain periodically now, whereas in July we had basically none.

Indeed my dear hobbit, the norm seems to favore the heat, and humidity. Just had a bout of thunder, and rain pass through tonight, so I am hoping that the weatherman on the news made the right guess this time. If it is in the mid 70's I might just finish the weeding. Strange is it not, how weeds tend to take over when it's too hot to go out to tend to them? Almost as if they know we don't want to go out in this, and take full advantage of it.

Yes, we did end up getting a little bit. It wasn't very much, but every little bit counts. And we got a small amount of rain on Saturday, too. The grass is still nice and green.
The weather here has been fairly nice. It was 92F today and it's suppose to be in the 80s this weekend.

Right on, our dear Wiggle. (Are there many weeds in the marshlands?) It really is amazing how the weeds finally get under control, then with one rainfall, they sprout up again within a matter of hours!
And speaking of the wet stuff, glad you received some, Snow Angel.
We are in for a few days of rain now, thankfully. The clouds came over early this morning with scattered precipitation today, and much more beginning this evening and into tomorrow, accompanied by wondrous thunder-booms! And then it continues off and on through Monday, or so says the forecast now. The temperature has dropped wonderfully from a 34C/93F yesterday to a much more comfortable 24C/75F, although I really wonder if it's even going to reach that today. The cloud cover is keeping things a fair bit cooler. At last, we can finally have the windows open to enjoy the fresh air!
Even though it's necessary, I'm not fond of having everything closed up with the heat.
It appears the temperatures will climb somewhat again next week, but not to the extent of July's brutal heat, thankfully. August is here!
