Started out humid today. I could feel it all into the afternoon, even though it was definitly cooler today.
About five it changed so dramatically I thought for sure we were getting something severe, but nothing.
I know we should be gratful for such blessings, but I cannot help but wonder if we won't be hearing some thunder tonight.

After unbearable heat and humidity going to the triple degree digits(though thank God we had air conditioning. I can't imagine what it was like for those without.), today was so unbelievably pleasant. The forecast said it would be somewhere in the mid to upper 80's, but I'm not sure if it was and it was just the comparison with heat this week that made it feel cooler, or whether the forecast was wrong, but it felt like the upper 70's with a pleasant summer breeze. This is summer.

There's no other way to describe the weather that's been here the past two weeks other than hot, hot, hot, hot and hot. Oh, and dry too. We had 12 days in a row of temps over 100F. Finally last night a "cold" front came through which dropped us down to a high today of 95F.
Though with that front came humidity so I think it was just as miserable as it had been, if not more so.
We've had a some pop-up thunderstorms move through the area that have included some sprinkles, but nothing really worthwhile. Just enough to add to the humidity.
But I am looking forward to a week of cooler temps.
@Jo it did come, fortunatel;y without the tornadoes.
I too detest summer digs... especially when I had no snow in the winter! It's been a bit cooler these last few days though.

After driving through several extremely hot states (thanks goodness our car had air conditioning!), we came home to find Michigan having a heat stroke. We rarely get to well over 100 degrees, but I guess the weather decided to surprise us this year! Not only was it hot, but there was full humidity as well. We opened the door to our house (which had been completely left alone to bake for two weeks), and it was like opening the door of an oven. Thankfully, it cooled down to the mid-eighties yesterday, and there's a nice breeze blowing. *crosses her fingers and hopes that it stays this way*
On a sidenote, though, we stayed in San Diego, California, for almost a week. I now know why so many people want to live there. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. Mid-seventies, breezy, warm, but not too hot. It was so lovely.

Ditto, Bella! One could actually feel the humidity drop off Saturday evening. What a relief! The nights are down to very comfy temperatures and the days are much more manageable, usually with a breeze (off the lake, for us). So thankful.
However, that should all change mid-week as humidity sets in again. That's July in the northern hemisphere for ya'!
Glad you're getting some (relatively) cooler temps, fantasia.

Noted elsewhere, it looks like we in the north were possibly even hotter (with the heat index, anyway) than those in the south. For at least a few days last week the air was feeling like around 112°F.
on humidity!

Indeed. If we had the snowy memories to look back on, those help pull us through summer until the cooler air comes again. But we can't even be guaranteed of a snow-ful winter this year. So different from when I was a child.
Glad you had a good trip, Miss R, despite the heat. Yes, I, too, am grateful for any fresh breeze that blows by.
Later today we could be getting showers (I hope this turns out to be true), but after that, none are in the forecast for the next week. However, we did get a solid, although brief, spectacular storm this past Saturday morning. The sky was amazing—very dark with the coolest ripples in the clouds—and the lightning and thunder were spot on. It rained in a torrential downpour for a time, and at least soaked everything, but we really could use more than that.

Indeed it did, for me at least!
I'd been invited to a friend's house to celebrate his birthday (he's my age, double nickels, to use the old phrase); he'd suggested having a fire, weather permitting.
It did not. The temperature was 102F/39C with a heat index of 114F/46C. I thought I was going to melt! Nevertheless, he bravely grilled some birthday steaks over the charcoal.
Later that evening, we stepped outside to a spectacular lightning show as that cold front approached from the northwest. I arrived home about 10.45 pm, just as the heavens opened with some torrential rains. It didn't last long, though.
It did usher in a lot of cooler, dryer air (relatively speaking). The high yesterday was a 'mere' 90F/32C. Today is slightly cooler and much less humid, with dewpoints around 48F/9C rather than 73F/23C. (That means today's air has less than half the evaporated moisture it did this past weekend).
Summer persists, though; 90s will be back this weekend.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Well it's monsoon season. We got our first real rain last week (only half an inch at my new property). Tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday however the forecast doesn't say "chance' of rain. It just says "rain". I hope it doesn't rain in the morning as I am helping out with VBS camp this week but I do hope it rain in the afternoon. My parents and I want to see where the water flows in and out of our property.
Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

We finally hit our first 100F/37.8C day of the year yesterday. It was 102F/39C, just like Mr. Gazer's report above. Today it went up to 102.7F/39.3C but it has been very dry, 14% humidity right now. Tomorrow is more of the same.
Heat index is lower than the temperature by about 6 degrees. Summertime is really here now!

No thunder my good hobbit. But one never knows what might happen. Err on the side of caution, and you will never be dissapointed.
Thankfully the heat has abated, at least a bit. I have been told to expect some more temps in the high 90's again next week. Ah well, I can catch up on my reading in the basement.
Here, it has actually been hot! Unbelievable.
The past few years, we've gone with basically no weather. No rain in winter, no heat in summer. Every season has been the same. Except the past few days, which have been scorching.

Summer has been pleasant for me so far. June was a very cool month and though July is coming around pretty hot (usually ranging from around 25 to 35 degrees C) we have clouds and rain about every 3/4 days, so it's all baanced out quite nicely. The weather forcast was promising and thunder storm last night, but though I was up till around 4 in the morning there was no thunder storm, weather forcasts need to learn to keep their promises

oof, that is hot it was 39C here last Sunday, I was smart and stayed home but De and Narnian_Archer went into town and spent the whole day in the sun, needless to say they came home pretty fried

If things get much drier around here, I wouldn't be surprised to see caravans of camels marching through our back yard! Okay. . . . that might be an exaggeration, but Tuesday will mark an entire month of not mowing our grass, and an entire month without considerable rain.
A few weeks back, we did have a few down-pours, but the ground is so hard due to lack of rain, that none of the water can "soak in." Instead, it merely runs along the surface of the ground until it collects in low lying areas.
The scary thing is, that we have a well at our house, and that's our only water source, so if that dries up, we'll have buy water by the truckload for drinking (and that get's really expensive, really quickly! To fill our little pool it was more than 200 dollars!

The weather here reminds me of last summer, which began very wet. Around mid-July it was like someone flipped a switch, and the next 8 months were extremely dry. So we entered this spring in a drought situation, but lots of rain solved that.
This summer's been hotter than average (tomorrow will be the 3rd day this summer over 100F - keep in mind it's very humid as well) and has now entered another dry mode (though not yet as dry as areas south of here).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
*arrives, melting*

Wowser! I bet you didn't stand anywhere too near that BBQ.

*loves lightning shows* A few summer's back, we had almost tropical rainfalls/thunderstorms late most afternoons ('twas lovely), usually culminating with a rainbow that stretched from the S to the E. We sure could use that this summer, after this very long dry spell with no significant rainfall. Some is due to arrive tomorrow evening, but it probably won't make up for what we're lacking.
Today is 'only' feeling like 37C/98.6F (hey, that's body temperature!) compared to what tomorrow holds, a "brutally hot day", quoting the forecasters, with heat index at 44C/111.2F ... still not feeling quite as warm as your 114F, though, 'gazer! Of course, at those temperatures, do a few degrees really make any difference?
Apparently, the past 12 months have been the hottest on record for our area.
Fencer, how does a monsoon differ from a hurricane?
Glimmie, have you had any rain lately?
Ah well, I can catch up on my reading in the basement.
Sounds lovely and cool!
Ithi, is your are still scorching?
Your weather in July sounds similar to ours, wild rose, aside from the thunderstorms, which I wish we had!
Yep, DiGs, haven't mowed the lawn in ages. This happened last summer too. Camels, eh?
Our gardens are doing very, very well, but only because I water 'em each evening as the sun's setting, and sometimes in the morning too, depending on the forecasted heat for that day.
EDIT: Tonight's 'low' is 24C/75.2F, but feeling even warmer (and terribly sticky) with the high, high humidity. Lovely. (Joking! )
