What most of you are dealing with now is what I deal with nearly every day for 6 months out of the year. Yes, I am more 'acclamated' to it but it doesn't make it any less hot. We have already had about 8 weeks of above 100 degrees and we have likely about 6 more to go before it starts to cool down at the end of September.

Ditto FencerforJesus...its SO hot where I live!!! I remember a few years ago me and one of my brothers was outside on Christmas day playing in shorts. It was THAT warm. I am so glad we got a pool this year!

Loving that winter pic, stargazer. Or how about this beauty?
Tomorrow may be the hottest day of this heat wave, reaching 100F/38C, and a heat index of 130F/54C. I'm somewhat relieved to remember that in 6 months the air temperature could easily be 125F colder than it is now, and the 'feel-like' temperature could easily be 165F colder than it will be tomorrow.
Did the heat index reach 130F, 'gazer? That's unbelievable! Today is our hottest day of this massive heat wave, which should feel like 50C/122F with the humidity. I love hearing the vast difference between the hot and cold temperatures ... and long for the latter.
After nearly a month of virtually no precipitation (aside from a few drops one day, which I could count on two hands ), finally we hope rain will be descending upon us this Sunday evening through Monday morning, lessening this dreadful humidity, although it will remain hot, but will be in the high 20s/low-mid 80sF instead of the high 30sC/low 100sF.
Glad you got some rain, Fencer! And, you know, I can't imagine living in this heat six months out of every year. Whew! *melts at the thought*
Continuing to count the days until Autumn. ♥

I salute you, Fencer, for enduring this kind of weather so much of the year. Give me 5-7 months of snow anytime.

Fortunately, jo, it did not. The dew point yesterday dropped 'only' into the 70s, and even into the 60s late last night. This kept the heat index only in the 115F range.
It's downright pleasant outside, today, with a dewpoint around 55F. That means the air has about 1/5 the moisture that it had the other day. Whew! Alas, heat and humidity will return this weekend.
One last note: this morning, one day past the 42nd anniversary of Neil Armstrong's first steps on the moon, Atlantis landed, ending the US shuttle program after 3 decades.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Yes snow! Oh snow wherefore art thou?!
Hot yesterday, hotter today. 93F right now... and its nearly 9 PM- Dusk. The worst part is the mosquitoes love this weather... and for some reason the blackflies are having a second hatching season. And one bit me in the bottom of the foot!!!

Snow? What is that you speak of? I only hear strange rumors from travelers from afar of this white stuff...
One thing I love about our lack of rain is the lack of humidity. The problem though is that I currently live out in the farming areas and we get that partial humidity that is not real humidity. My brother put it so well while he was in Ft. Benning GA for his Army Basic Training. "When it gets humid here (home) it is sticky. There (GA) it is just wet." I was in Atlanta last summer for Fencing Summer Nationals in July and it was plenty warm (90's) but the real humidity didn't bother me. Once you get above your body temp, though, that a whole separate matter. I'll never forget stepping out the door at 5:00pm in early May in Shreveport, LA after another fencing tournament and my glasses completely fogged up instantly. That was not plesant.

My glasses did that a few times the past few days. I'm used that when I come inside in the winter. I've never had it happen going outside in the summer before.

That's it exactly! It's been so incredibly humid here that it's well into that 'wet' kind of weather, even when it didn't rain.
The local news stations had fun with all that condensation forming on the windows; one TV meteorologist went outside to report, and used the wet windows as a sort of white board to explain concepts of humidity and dewpoint.
Like wolflover, this hot wet weather has produced an incredible mosquito crop here. I almost need a blood transfusion after only 5 minutes outside for an Iridium flare.

Yesterday, I decided to wear jeans, and I stepped outside to play Frisbee, and - it was wonderful!! It was a lot cooler than it has been, I could hardly believe it - probably wasn't above 85! How awesome, huh?

It was so hot last night! My hair was sticking to my face- it was disgusting. I had the fan on, but it didn't help much. I just want to go swimming! that would be nice....

I'm totally loving the weather - after the first two or three days, the weather has been very nice. Its been a lot more humid, but I don't mind that. It's been nice and warm, but never unbearably.

Had a small storm hit us last night. We only got about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch of rain but enough lightning to take out our power from midnight until 7:30 this morning. El Paso is officially hanging around 1 inch of moisture for the year, 2 1/2 inches below 'average'.

Getting a rare thunderstorm right now. Lightening, thunder, and rain is rare here this time of year. But seeing and hearing is believing.
Temperature is almost unchanging so far today; the low was 74.8F/23.8C and it just went up to....75.0F/23.9C! Nice to be a little cooler than the usual 90F/32.2C+ lately.
EDIT: Rain totals for today: 0.39 inches. Season Normal: 0.25.

We had a big thunderstorm here this afternoon. I haven't been able to just sit and enjoy a good storm for a long time. I watched the lightning flashes streak across the sky. The power was out for a while. I lit some candles and read a book. Now the power is back on but my house smells all nice from the rain and the candles.

It's been tropical here for the past month. Rain and storms, and high humidity. Just walking outside makes me start dripping. I love summers, but man the fall has so much better weather!
