Glad to not have those above mentioned storms here.
First 8 days of July and the average high has been 98.8F/37.1C and the low 72.7F/22.6C. Not much chance to cool down from the outside air. Not .
Air conditioner, yes .

I wouldn't mind this heat if it wasn't accompanied by 75F dew points. Whew!
I was invited to a wedding yesterday that was originally intended to be out of doors. But with the air so thick you could swim through it, and the heat index hovering around 100F, they moved it indoors. The people in the wedding party had stories of ducking into the facility's walk-in freezer to cool off.
With all the tornadoes and high winds this summer, we had some tree guys come last week and trim the trees on this property. But wind gusts over 80 mph/145 km/hr last night - as fast as a category 1 hurricane - blew over lots of trees in the area last night. Fortunately, only one big branch came down in our yard, and it missed the house.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
That Phoenix dust storm link is phenomenal, Fencer! So thankful there were no injuries. But that dust getting into everything must be quite the pain!
75F dew points, stargazer, whew! Of course, yesterday our dewpoint was 70F. *wipes sweat from brow* Muggy-plus! Thick as soup. And no relief at night. While today is very hot, the humidity is somewhat lower ('though very early this morning it was 100%), but tomorrow it's supposed to break, with a more comfortable and less-dew-pointy 25C/77F. Still longing for autumn ...
Considering we had a very rainy and cool, lengthy spring, we have not had any significant precipitation since June 23rd. The forecast is rain early next week, but time will tell if that plays out or not. There was a chance of thunderstorms this past Sunday evening, but they never came to fruition in our area, although south-western Ontario apparently had some glorious storms.
This July weather is nothing surprising for us ... quite typical, actually.
Yes, Glimmie, thankfully for air conditioning! (We only have window units, but I couldn't live without 'em. ) Swimming just before going to bed helps too.

El Paso today, hot, humid, enough rain to register a trace and still under 1/4 inch of rain for the whole year. Actually the last significant reception of moisture we had was back in October. Nothing significant in almost a year.

...*looks around amusedly* We're talking about weather...lol
It stays around 95F down south where I live...its been horribly hot this year! But just got some rain yesterday, so yeah!

@TheWarriorQueen yep we are and it's a discussion I've missed too much of...
@Fencer I just noticed your posts regarding the duststorm. I saw that on the weather channel when it was occurring... Yikes!
I wish we could send you the rain we got last year... or this year for that matter. All of our gardening efforts failed last year except my mom's flower bed, which was raised above ground, because of it. And I nearly lost my shoes trying to plant the corn...
This year we didn't try to garden, and it's probably good because it's rained quite a bit... And I was looking forward to some sunshine while I was home for the summer
Recently at least we've had a bit of a break. I can only hope it will last.

I live here in Arizona, the storm was visible from our backyard, but we didn't get right in the middle of it.
My cousins patio was covered in a thin layer of dust, they got hit harder then we did, but still nothing really bad.
And you are right FencerforJesus, I've heard no reports on our news about any injures, only some blown down trees. It's very beautiful to look at all the footage, especially because no one was hurt.
We had duststorms like that in September/October 2009. We had red dust over everything for weeks afterwards, and found we had a smashed glass door, as well, because of the differences in temperature from inside and outside. The dust came from our 'Red Centre', of course, and it is said the iron in the dust nourishes the organisms in the sea so they can help the environment.
Sure enough, we have had a relatively wet, cold and dreary winter in comparison to last year. But now it is dry again. Are we in for another ice age? Or are we in for Global meltdown? That is the question.
I spoke to soon... It's been pouring on and off all day. Thundering now, relatively cool. Hot early on before the storm hit. Kinda windy too

While I was in D.C. this week, and it was very hot there - I think it was always above 85, and often 100+. We got home, to Wisconsin, and I was literally very cold. I have to say, I do like heat!

Even in the height (or heat ) of summer, winter's never far away here in the Northland. Areas just north of here reported lows of 37F/2C this morning. Ah, sounds so refreshing!
I have to say, I do like heat!
Looks like you'll get your wish! The heat will be on this weekend for Minnesota and Wisconsin. Those areas which were near freezing this morning will have temps approaching 100F and heat indices around 110F/43C by Sunday. And this might be (by local standards) an extended heat wave, lasting most of next week.

The last two days we've finally gotten rain. We have easily had more rain in the last two days than we've had since October. That being said our total rainfall for 2011 still has not exceed 1/2 an inch. We had some puddles from last nights rain but our usually slimy muddy areas are all but bone dry already. When it does rain at my place just outside El Paso, don't walk with shoes on. If you do, you feet sink to somewhere between your ankles and your knees and your shoes don't come back out with your foot. It's slippery, nasty, slime mud that make excellent breeding grounds for toads and mosquitoes.
But hey, for the first time since the end of May, we dropped below 100 degrees for our highs. It's mid-90's but it's below our body temp and after 6+ weeks of above 100, that feels REALLY good. Even though the humidity skyrocketed from essentially 0% to about 100%. Now it dropping fast as the front is passing through. We are back to 100 degrees by the weekend.

it was hot earlier today...around 95F like usual and now its fixing to come a storm! My family just got a pool and I swear every time I go to get in it, it starts thundering! Now everyone jokes around that we ended the drought.

Today it's cool out... cloudy. Sprinkling lightly. It's nice to see rain again in Summer.

It rained yesterday, and last night, but now it's fairly sunny outside. I'm not noticing any heat waves yet, and the weather is very lovely - but I miss the heat of DC.
