Yesterday's Southern US tornado outbreak was of historic proportions in number of twisters and - unfortunately - casualties, and the numbers continue to mount. My thoughts and prayers are with those in the devastated areas.

We were on the cold side of the system, so we got cold rain and even some snow out of it overnight. No accumulation of the white stuff here, however, though my brother (north of here) got several inches.

In addition to viewing chances for the shuttle Endeavour and the ISS, May mornings will feature an unusual close gathering of 4 of the 5 naked-eye planets (Saturn being the lone non-participant). Each morning of the month will offer different views of the planets' positions relative to each other. Those in the Southern Hemisphere will have a better view; those of us in mid-Northern Hemisphere latitudes will see the planets low in bright twilight. Much more information, along with diagrams of what to expect, can be found here.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

The tornado damage is now considered the worse since Katrina with over 300 killed. My heart goes out to those that survived.

On another note, West Texas and Northern Mexico was hit by some minor earthquakes. Two were 4.3 and 4.1 and numerous aftershocks in the 2.0 and 3.0 range. The epicenter was less than 100 miles from where I live but to those closer (including my parents), it felt no different than a train passing by. So no one outside a seismic center (which UTEP has) really noticed.

If it's snowing, it must be May in Minnesota. ;))

Some friends and I had scheduled a campfire yesterday, but with windchills in the 20sF (-5C) and a few snowflakes falling in the backyard, we opted to dine out instead. There's another chance for light snow today; it feels and looks more like early November out there.

But tomorrow may actually get close to average, with sunshine and warmer temps (perhaps 60F/15C).

Goodness, finally it is warm-ish in the Chicagoland area! I don't have to walk around my own house in 5 sweaters and a snuggie anymore! ;)

It was pretty warm when I was there four weeks ago. And that's coming from El Paso. But some people naturally get cold if it drops a hint below 70 degrees. Have lots of those in El Paso.

Well, in less than a week my part of Texas got hit by another earthquake. This one was another 4.3 on the Richter scale. As far as I know, few people even felt it. I certainly didn't as it was about 100 miles from where I live. Not going to speculate if it means anything now.

Spring has officially come to Northern Canada. :D There's not a single patch of snow left. Now nature is waiting for the May long weekend, and then the leaves will reappear on the trees. :) It's been in the low-high teens all week, I love it!

I feel like I'm always cold! :p

Chicagoland is also getting a lot of sunshine lately which is something we really need after this disastrous winter.

I know the feeling of wanting spring and not getting it Elanor :)

The weather has been very pleasant here (and it's so sad that I have to sit at my desk and solve algebra problems, instead of being outside and enjoying it :( ) Last week we had sun everyday. Now it rains a lot but the sun always comes out afterward. This is perfect weather!!!! I love rain and I love sun and I get both everyday. It's cooler now than last week which is nice and the rain makes everything so fresh. *is waiting impatiently for a thunderstorm, we usually have them in the begining of May*

Just pulled out of a tornado warning, again. It seems that the weather channel only has shows about people dieing in tornado's when there is a warning.

It's been very windy here in El Paso and hot. Though I haven't seen an actual forecast, it feels like it's in the 90's already. I'm actually suprised it's taken this long to get this warm.

In Denver, it's snowing and raining. Guess where I'm going this weekend for the next week? Colorado Springs. Close enough to Denver. I'm going prepared for a week of all four seasons.
