Welcome to NarniaWeb, Xenophanes, and specifically to this Meteorology topic. Great to have you here.
(weather trivia...our first measurable snow - several inches - last year came this week)
Cool! Every few years, it seems, we get a lovely, light snowfall on Canada's Thanksgiving weekend (this coming one—the 2nd wknd of October), but this year the temperatures are going to climb to 18C/64F and remain good hiking weather (almost too warm, actually ) for Saturday and Sunday, with rain coming on holiday Monday. So, no snow for Thanksgiving this year.
I heard on the radio the other day that our winter is expected to be colder and snowier than last winter (hurrah!), so that was welcome news.
*nods at 'gazer* I thought I recognized your graphics from other times yet still revel in the beauty of both photos. Enjoy all your upcoming trips. And do let us know if another viewing confirms the Comet.
kat and fencer, I really hope you receive some snow again this winter.
Well, in looking at photos of fascinating cloud formations online the other day, I came across this site. Ahh, folk after my own heart. I get so bored of day upon day of blue sky with nary a cloud. And their manifesto is quite entertaining, as is Join the Society.
In the daytime I'm always looking up if clouds are present: they're always fascinating—a new, beautiful, natural portrait every minute. I like how this group calls clouds "Nature's Poetry", and they're "tired of people moaning about them". So, "The Cloud Appreciation Society". Well, I never.
Having said that, in the nighttime, even though clouds can be spectacular, particularly when the moon is visible, I do much prefer a clear/mostly clear sky for viewing the glories of the night sky. So, clouds during the day; at night they can go away.

It's gotten cold here, sunny but cold. I'm not used it being cold yet and haven't been dressing warm enough , came down with a cold . The so very terribly hot summer, that we had, with all the wildfires and smoke now seems like only a bad dream we had a very pleasant Spetember, it was cool air and very warm sun which made being outside so pleasant. Now autumn is just about in full sway, now of my favorite times of the year, golden autumn, a time when everything is yellow and red
it's around 10°C in the day time and at night it can get down to -1°C, so there is always frost on the ground in the early morning, and now that is colder in the mornings it is even harder for me to pull myself out from under my warm covers
always be humble and kind
The humid was high and wow! I just missed the sun soo much! Haha. Rain I believe will pour tomorrow, because its like it has a pattern of its own. Tomorrow rain, then the next, none. Psycho huh? Haha.

Snow? What's that? Snow is a very rare sight in El Paso as well, and yet somehow we got it six times last year...
As you might imagine, snow is pretty common here. A winter with only 6 snowfalls might prompt discussions about upcoming spring droughts or even climate change concerns.
We almost always have permanent snow cover by US Thanksgiving (toward the end of November), though I can recall a few exceptions over the past 45 years or so.
But right now is a totally different story. Today is sunny and pleasant, with an unseasonably-warm high of 76F/24C, 11F/6C over average. And tomorrow's high may reach 84F/29C - an astounding 19F/10C over average - which would be a record high for the date.
...And do let us know if another viewing confirms the Comet...
I enjoyed a lengthy evening fire at a state park out of town the other night, and had nice views: the Andromeda Galaxy and the Double Cluster in Perseus were easily visible to the unaided eye, and Uranus was easy near Jupiter in binoculars. But I still couldn't find Comet Hartley 2 (I'm going to try again tonight). This means I really didn't spot it that first time.
Thanks for linking to the Cloud Appreciation Society pages, jo; they were fun to read. And while I'm naturally inclined to seek out clear skies, especially at night, I do like looking at clouds too.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
The weather was so great this past week being in the mid 70's and all. Now today it got back to being in the late 80's to early 90's! ugh!!! I want my cool weather back!!

Perfect fall weather today. I went trail riding with my sister, and the breeze was so refreshing! The lovely crisp weather is refreshing after days of rain! The sky was the absolute clearest most beautiful blue ever!
I saw the movie....and was disappointed
There's nothing like that crisp, clear fall weather and the blue sky that comes with it!
We've enjoyed that kind of weather most of the last 2 weeks, and today is more of the same - except for unusual heat: we set a new high-temperature record today (84F/29C), just breaking the previous record (83F) set in 1980. Tomorrow will be more of the same, with a high of 85F breaking the old record of 79F/26C. (Hard to believe we had snow this week last year!)
Faint Comet Hartley 2 passed just south of the Double Cluster in Perseus last night (here's a picture). I was again out of town, away from most of the city lights, and may have just caught a glimpse of it. Lots of lovely fall colors were seen along the way.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
^ You two are lucky. I want my fall weather back!

It's just been sunny with temps in the 80's the last few days. I still want it a little cooler but it is finally becoming enjoyable to be outside past 8:00am. And yes, during the 'summer' season, by the time 9:00am hits, it reaches 90+ degrees. And when the monsoon season is in full force, the only time the mosquitoes back down from considering you as a fresh feast is when it is too hot to be outside anyway. It's nice to be coming into what is really the best time of the year to be in El Paso. 70-80 degrees, little wind (which means no flying dirt) and simply pleasant.
Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.
wow! it's finally feeling like fall here! and it's rather damp. ew. we've had rain for a bit now. ugh. and it's been in the lower 60's to high 50's. I want summer back.

I love stormy weather! We had a fantastic lightning storm tonight! Absolutely beautiful! Some hail involved too, which only added to the eerie atmosphere. All in all, a very cozy day! The temperature has been steadily dropping the past few days. It's really beginning to feel like fall; no more Indian Summer.
I saw the movie....and was disappointed
^Wow! You like lightnings? Me I don't. .
Cloudy weather with little rain today. Very chilly, brrrrr.
