A few days of cooler weather has now gone back to summer. It's October and we are still over 90 degrees. At this rate we are either not going to have much of a fall or we're not going to have much of a 'winter'. Of course all it really is is a dry, 'cool' season. Not much to actually call 'winter'.

You're welcome to travel north for some awesome weather, Fencer!
With the exception of a little drizzle this afternoon, this past week (and the forecast for all of next week) has been one of the longest stretches of awesome fall weather I can remember - highs from 55-65F/13-18C, crystal-clear blue skies, no humidity and few bugs. In fact, we may get the season's first frost early Sunday morning. Ahhhh...
The fall colors are approaching peak and bright colors are just about everywhere you look. It's been great weather for campfires with friends, and I'm considering an orchard/camping trip sometime next week.
Incidentally, I've found it fairly easy to spot Uranus near Jupiter in 10x50 binoculars, even though I live in a metro area with lots of light pollution. I may have spotted dim little Comet Hartley 2 in Cassiopeia last night, but I'll need to confirm that with another observation in the next few days.
Last week's heavy rain means that lower areas in the Twin Cities are flooding this weekend as the rain water moves downriver. Fall floods are pretty rare around here.
Still, it's nothing like the incredible rains and flooding the east coast of the US has endured this past week.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Today, we experienced some little rainfall, and some cloudy weather. Humid was just right. Hope it stays the same everyday.

rainy, gray and depressing out there....I lit candles all around my room to give it a cheerful feel, contrasting the outdoors.
I saw the movie....and was disappointed
Finally temps are dropping into the 80's. Cloud coverage does help. Downtown El Paso got a little rain yesterday. Enough to wet me down a little as I walked from the bus to my dorm (a little more than a mile and steep uphill), but not enough to soak me. Today is pleasant but it could still drop another 10 degrees and be even better.

*tries to get caught up*
My sister, in Chennai India, was totally shocked as the winter coats are being pulled out. The temperatures are dropping into the upper 90's there. But when you are on the Indian Ocean Coast very close to the equator, where temps average 115+ with 98% humidity, I'd consider 99 to be a cold front.
Whew! Depends on one's perspective, eh? *wipes sweat from forehead at the idea of 99 being a 'cold front'*
Before I forget, I really like your avvy/sig duo, stargazer. Mmmm, bonfires. I enjoyed your astronomy annoucements and links, 'gazer. Very informative, as always. I have yet to make a concentrated effort to see Comet Hartley 2. Did you have further success?
narnialover4, I also enjoy a good day or two of rain. I love watching the patterns of how it falls, whether straight down (usually torrential), slanted (very windy), or just lightly drizzling.
But today we had a really nice sunset! It was just breathtaking!!!!!!!!!
Funny, that day you posted this, we had a spectacular sunset as well, with the rays shooting up through the clouds, lighting up the underside of the dark masses. Gorgeous!

I don't mind dreary days for this reason: there is something really comforting and cozy about grey skies, which is why I, too, light candles regularly. *is a rather huge candle/fire lover* We also have strings of those white mini-lights in different parts of the main floor, and they're so pretty when on, with the twinkling contrast to outside.
We're having such pleasant autumn weather. 'Though right where we are there wasn't frost this morning ('though close at 3C/37F), outlying areas reported some light covering. The trees aren't nearly at their peak for colour, so I am thoroughly enjoying every day with their turning leaves. Sometimes they reach their prime at Canadian Thanksgiving (this coming wknd), but this year they'll be a couple of weeks after that yet, me thinks. Good! The longer fall-time, the better.
The next week or so is ideal weather: mid-teens Celsius/high 50s Fahrenheit during the day; 10C/50F at night (give or take). Lovely!

the rain was so weird today. It rained a while ago but the sun was still shining. Rain poured lightly that time. I love light rains!

Rainy and cold; it is definitely October! We finally got to turn on the heat this morning! 1st time since April!
I saw the movie....and was disappointed
Perfect sweater weather down here in the Carolinas! A chilly but sunny Tuesday morning, spent sitting out on the porch. Hurrah for October!

Sounds great, Xenophanes! My sister lives down there.
btw, Welcome to Narnia Web! Hope to see you around! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help introduce you to the wonders of Narnia Web!

Thanks for the welcome.
I'm rather new to the forum scene, but I think I'm making a good start with the Signature, User Page, and the Avatar. It's rather daunting to see people with more than two thousand posts, and it makes me wonder how someone could post that much!
Though I'm sure I'll be at that point, in due time.

Some of us have been here a few years. Post totals tend to accumulate that way.
Now... back to the weather!
We had another front come through and the highs are in the *gasp* 70s with the lows in the 50s. The skies are crystal clear and I am loving every minute of it! We'll be back to almost 90 by the end of the week though. We're still at least a month if not closer to two before our first freeze.
*echoes the welcome to Xenophanes*
Your current weather sounds very pleasant, kat! Similar to ours, in fact, though our lows the last few nights have been in the upper 30sF/around 4C and our first frost is already in the books (weather trivia...our first measurable snow - several inches - last year came this week).
No snow this week...just sunny skies and highs around 70. 80F may even occur this upcoming weekend. But after that, I think it's going to be a good 5 months before we have to worry about hitting 80...and maybe 6 or even 7 before we hit 90 again. Ahhh.....

Thanks! I'm cheating a little, in that both of those pictures are from trips I took in previous years. But I'm planning a trip to the park in which my avatar picture was taken later this week - along with a side trip to the orchards to pick up some fresh apples.
The fall colors this year are as glorious as our current weather, and shortly I'll be heading out to one of our state parks to take in the colors. Then there will be a campfire and observation this evening. Maybe I'll be able to confirm my earlier observation of Comet Hartley 2. *crosses fingers*

We had snow the last two years (once each year). It actually stuck! Snow itself is extremely rare. Snow back to back is a massive event. If we get snow this year, it may be the first time on record that it has EVER happened in Houston. On record anyways. I would be pretty surprised if it does. Last year's winter was extremely unusual and we had a pretty hot summer.
Snow? What's that? Snow is a very rare sight in El Paso as well, and yet somehow we got it six times last year. It only stuck once and only for a couple hours, but snow fell six times.
Summer has finally ended. Rain helps. Temps are only in the 80's and I don't forsee a return to the 90's until April. But this is El Paso and the weather really likes 90+.
