The average high temperature where I live in Southern California the last 12 days has been 100.4F/38C. Mostly dry but we had some monsoon type weather Thursday and Friday with thunder and lightning and a little rain. Most unusual for here.
But tomorrow (Saturday), the temperature is supposed to drop 15-20 degrees. I am looking forward to that.

Your ISS pass sounds glorious, jo!
That's just a wee bit too hot for me, GlimGlum...by about 35 degrees F.
Our State Fair runs for 12 days ending Labor Day, and 'tradition' says it always has a hot day or 2 (over 90F). It looks like today, tomorrow, and Monday might fill that bill this year. Still, while today was hot, the humidity was low and there was a breeze much of the time. Great fair weather - as could be told by the massive crowds in attendance.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I've been watching the Atlantic as we are heading into the busy part of the Atlantic hurricane season. The last couple of storms have spun out into the Atlantic, but the newer ones are getting closer to the east coast of the U.S. Looks like the tracks are starting to shift.
Glim, how nice to have some (relatively) cooler weather to look forward to.
Mmm, that does sound like nice fair weather (pun intended), 'gazer.
Sandy, do you have a basement you can shelter in when severe weather hits?
Keep us posted on the hurricane season, kat ... and stay safe!
Here we have plunged into a heat/humidity wave again. Thankfully this one won't be as long as the last, which was much of July and into August as well. The current system will stay a bit less than a week, and I am counting the days until it's gone. As we've mentioned before, stifling weather like this is like walking into a wall of soup when one steps outside and hits that very palpable and oppressive air mass. The first few nights of the wave, at least the temperatures were dropping to comfy-ness for sleeping(16C/60.8F), whereas tonight and the next few aren't going below a very muggy and still 20C/68F, although it feels a lot warmer. <- me sweating (But females don't sweat, do they? They, apparently, glisten. ) It's hard to even get out on my walks in the evenings when the humidity is this high (78% overnight). As for the night sky, it is hardly to be seen as the moisture in the air is so thick it obscures any such thing.
*calls for Autumn to come on over*
On Thursday a cold front passes, bringing with it some needed precipitation in the latter part of the day, with more seasonable weather on Labour Day weekend ... thankfully!
EDIT: *waves to a very warm wolfloversk below* We simul-posted. Yep, you must be getting this same heat wave, and I feel for you in your hot dorm. Ugh! Do you have a fan?

Well I'm in college so I'm now 3 and a half hours west from my home, but it is sooooooooooo hot right now (and this place is known for its snow!) I honestly can not wait for winter especially since I'm in a third floor dorm with no airconditioning! I've been here for 4 days and it hasn't rained yet.
There's a decent amount of stars although less than at home since were close to the city and since the campus has a bunch of lamposts, but at least I don't have to worry about trees in my way.
Lake Ontario has been nice and cool and the waves have ranged from 1 to 3 three feet near the shore this week, (trust me it was refreshingly cool- I accidentally fell in )
*Edited*
*Edit 2: at Jo well for 3 days we only had a measly table fan, but my roommate bought us another one yesterday

It rained so hard here last night and this morning. Woo! Rain was like, wooosh then bang bang then woosh! on our roof. Good thing I was busy watching something else because I fear the sound of heavy rain. Hihi. .
Johobbit: No we don't. A fact to share is, I definitely fear basements. :S.
"Two sides of the same coin"
I can imagine that, if one lived in places where floods are common, that basements might not be seen as safe places.
But here in thunderstorm/tornado country, they're almost a given in home construction. It's the safest place in the house when those funnels come calling. (Though I don't want to give the impression we have tornadoes all the time. Though some part of the state gets hit each summer, I've personally seen only a couple of tornadoes, and those were from a comparatively safe distance. The last time I was actually impacted by such a storm was when 2 F2 tornadoes came through here in late September 2005).
Like jo and wolfloversk, we're in a late-summer heat wave; it was 93F/34C yesterday with a dewpoint exceeding 70F/21C. It's getting a little late in the season for prolonged heat (our possible snow season begins two weeks from tomorrow ). Indeed, forecast highs for our Labor Day camping trip to northern Minnesota this upcoming weekend are around 60F/16C. Ahhhh!
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
We had a little rain over the weekend, but we are still in the 90's in the afternoon. I'm so looking forward the end of next month when the temps finally start dropping below 90. This is coming to the end of our 'monsoon' season so in a couple week any rain should be dropping out of the picture and don't expect to see it again for quite some time. That's El Paso for you.

Glad you have another fan now!
We're only a few short blocks from the same lake, wolfloversk, and, yes, it is wonderfully cool to stick one's toes (and maybe more) in. Being so close to the water, we often notice a difference in temperature as close as a mile north of us (although not so much on excruciatingly hot days like this). Especially in spring, coming down from the northern section of the city, as soon as one hits our area, one can feel the lovely and cooler difference the lake (and the abundance of trees) makes. It's like there is a line drawn.
Ah yes, I can understand that too, sandy. Where do you head for safety, then, when a large storm is coming your way?
But here in thunderstorm/tornado country, they're almost a given in home construction.
Here too, although, as with the northerly climes, tornadoes are much rarer than thunderstorms for us. (I'm definitely not in Kansas. ) The past few summers, however, it seems more tornadoes have touched down than over the previous decade or so. Last summer, almost to this date, there were a number in the Toronto area. We were told at that time to hunker down in our lowest level. Of course I, who wanted to see the thrill of the storm, was often running partway, or, more than naught, all the way, up our basement stairs to eagerly peer out the back patio doors. In fact, I left the door open a bit, despite the torrential rain, because I do so enjoy the sound of a good, solid storm ... as long as everyone is safe.
*leaps for joy at the words "snow season"*

Sounds so beautiful, and likewise here. Thursday's and Friday's rain usher in daytime temperatures around 17C/62.6F, while at night, glory be, the air will drop to 10 or 11C/50 -52F (nearly single digits, in Celsius)! Enjoy the camping trip, stargazer.
*feels for Fencer as temperatures 'cool down' to below 90* Do you ever really get used to that?!

@ Jo: hah that's awesome the lake is like right behind my dorm, and I actually haven't had a chance to get down there in the past few days due to classes, but I'm like desperate for it. You live on the Canadian side? I'm on the U.S. side.
It is so hot! I don't think I've stopped sweating all day- rumor is rain on Fri. I hope so, if there is I might just go and stand in it. Everyone says that umbrella's are a bad idea here cause the wind will just flip them and break them
I actually don't mind that though since I almost never use an umbrella If I get wet I get wet, I'll dry off eventually.

Johobbit: well, we don't usually have floods in our place when there's a storm so we just stay inside the house and enjoy the cold night or day.

It's still going on hot here in the south. It's about 95 degrees today though. I cannot wait til October. I want 65 degree weather!!

I've lived in El Paso for 11 years and I have nevery really adapted to the heat. I've just tolerated it. My ideal temp is between 60 and 80 degrees. And that is VERY rare here. By the end of the month we'll start averaging highs in the 80's. But really the only 'good' time to be here is late-October to early November. That is when we have the 'ideal' temps without the wind to ruin it. Our 'cold' season is late January but that's it. I still have yet to see a sub-zero temp on the records here. But I'll take the heat over the wind. The wind in itself is not an issue here. It's just the dirt that comes with it that's the issue. Ah, desert life.

It's been raining since yesterday so its now in the sixties. The bad news is that the wind and rain have been so bad that I've had to keep the window closed so our room still feels like the seventies
My lucky roommate is visiting her family this weekend so she's probably enjoying the air conditioning which our dorm lacks.
Today I took a walk and the wind was so bad that it nearly knocked me over- multiple times! But frankly I love wind, so it was worth it in my opinion. The waves are easily 5ft + near the shore- I couldn't even go down by the rocks they were so bad Falling in once was ernough I don't want to do it again it 5 foot waves. But at least I got to explore the campus and I found the lagoon which was signioficantly less wavey.
Dispite the fact I couldn't go by the lake I still enjoyed the wind, my whole walk I was grinning from ear to ear

Today, it's so hot! The sun is shining so bright! I really need ice cream, . I hope the heat won't stay for long.
