We got almost an inch of snow in huge flakes yesterday! Even in Alaska that's crazy for April.

I'd have guessed you'd get more April snow, Adeona. Here in Minnesota April snow is pretty common, but given this year's pattern it's unlikely now.
Some of you may have heard about the spectacular fireball that lit up Midwestern skies last week. (Here's a link to several YouTube video clips). I wish I could have seen it! I was too far north, and it was cloudy that evening. But it sure looks like a once-in-a-lifetime sight.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Well, we did get some earlier this month. But it's been a couple of weeks.
Yes, that fireball sounded like quite a sight. It would have freaked me out though!

A day or two ago a tornado touched ground on a parish close to were I live. Luckly no one was killed, but 10 people were injured enough to need attention. Ten to Twelve houses were destroyed along with a Baptist church. Also a factory was destroyed injuring three workers there. Tornados are sooo scary, but I guess I need to learn to live with them.

That sounds scary kittengirl I'm glad you're okay.
It rained a bit today, kind of chilly out. It was supposed to rain all day but it only rained for an hour or so.

stargazer, 'tis interesting to read of the different stages of spring you saw on your trip.
Likewise, we badly needed rain, especially with our dry-ish winter, and today we got a solid day's worth! I believe some more is in the forecast for tomorrow, a good thing. The ground is so very dry from an overall lack of precipitation for months now. Yes, kittengirl, rain is so lovely! I could just drink in the scent of the earth and air afterwards.
And wow about your tornado! They're pretty scary, and I'm thankful that, except for the sad damage of those homes and church, no lives were lost.
Mmm, Adeona, that sounds so pretty, but I, too, would have thought that snow would be more common in April.
*gawks in awe at the fireball* I've watched this over and over and can't get enough of it. Imagine seeing that first-hand. Whoa! How thrilling! *wishes that would happen in the Ontario skies at some point*
That's one big flare, hmm, 'gazer?

^^ I'm glad no one was killed either!! It's scary knowing that any minute in bad weather there could be a tornado outside my window. The weather is nice around here now though.

It's been a very windy weekend here: a 47-mph/76 km/hr wind gust was reported yesterday. It's stirring up the pollen and counts are off the scale (and don't I know it! )
Yet along with some much-needed rain it's been pleasant, with low humidities, sunny skies, and few bugs. Just what makes spring nice.
The southeast US hasn't been quite so fortunate, with up to 20 inches/51 cm of rain reported in some areas over the last 24 hours. There's been some significant flooding in Tennessee and surrounding states.
May is the month when the circumstances line up just perfectly to see lots of ISS passes each night (in the Northern Hemisphere). (Get your own schedule here, after inputting your city name). There's one coming up here in just a few minutes...
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Popping in to say hello to all my fellow weather junkies! Hope you are all doing well. I am still anxiously awaiting a good thunderstorm here. Looks like we will have a chance most days this week. After a pretty quiet start to the Severe Thunderstorm season, it looks like things have really started to pick up, especially across the Deep South.
"I have been asked by Aslan HIMSELF to gather more troops."
Nice to see you stop by, Todd! Enjoy your thunderstorms.
April was the second-warmest on record here, but May is starting out much cooler. It'll be above average tomorrow (possibly 80F/27C) with thunderstorms, but then a cold front brings a chance of snow mixed with rain this weekend! We didn't have any at all in March and April - the first time that's happened, in the records. (Our possible snow season extends to May 28, so May snow is not all that unusual).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
wow. it's only May, but here in New Hampshire it's really hot! it was 91 degrees yesterday and it's 80 today! the humidity is crazy!

Here too, Liberty. We are experiencing July type weather these past couple of days. The actual temperatures are around 22/23C (around 72F), but with the humidity (huh? humidity in early May? ) it feels closer to 30C/86F!!! Definitely not my kind of weather. There is a bit more on this here. We've had some needed rain lately (mostly on weekends), with the temperatures dropping and more coming this Mother's Day weekend. Wow, stargazer, possible snow? We're heading a fair bit lower (I believe the forecast is 13C/55F on Sunday), but not cold enough for the white stuff.
I just copied and pasted into my email Inbox the very active list of ISS passes for the upcoming week. It's fun to have a few nearly every night. We're not seeing as many Iridium flares now (see the same site for these that stargazer linked to), as many are between 3-6 a.m., the latter time being just before I arise for the day. Yet those we have seen lately are often the brighter ones: last Friday I was so pleased that the clouds held off until a -8 flare had shone for a few seconds overhead, so bright it almost gave the illusion there were two side-by-each. So cool!
Kate, drop 25-50° off each of those temperatures there, and that would be within my ideal. But, you go ahead and ... enjoy!
Todd, nice to see you again here. Do come by more often, if you can. How are your meteorological studies going?
We had our first thunderstorm yesterday morning. Mmm, how I love those long, low rumbles (no sudden, stomach-in-your-throat crashes ... yet) and the adventurously dark, artistically cloud-ridden skies.

Uggghhh! It's Humid out! 74 F today, but the worst part is the humidity... Its really getting to my sinuses... its not even that bad yet, when summer comes it will be much worse. It poured quite a bit today too, but that only helped a little. Tell me guys does it get humid in Alaska? 'Cause if not I'll see you in a few years up there... I'll take heavy snow over this any day.
