It was abesolutely wonderful out. Although I didn't go fishing today I did spend most of my time birdwatching and there were lots of birds out today, I lost count at 9 species.

It was warm and sunny, slight breeze. In fact it was warmer outside that it was in my house. There was a gorgeous sunset this evening, the clouds glowed a bright pink. Unfortunately I can't locate any stars tonight, might be too early or cloudy. I think we're in for more rain latter this week.

We have a saying that if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes.

That's often repeated here as well. :) When I left the house yesterday evening it was about 80F/27C with some humidity; by the time I left my friends' house later in the evening the windchill was below freezing (about 30F/-1C). ;))

I enjoyed reading your account of Colorado weather, Fencer; it fits well with my experiences there. Parts of it fit well here - especially the rapid changes that come in the spring and fall. Tornadoes and blizzards just a few days apart. Oy vey. ;)

Our winters are usually pretty predictable: when the first snow cover comes in October or November, it's going to hang around till March or April. 40F/5C in the deep of winter is a heat wave - though we often get a 'January thaw' that offers some break from temps of 0F/-17C or below.

(In an average year we have more nights below 0F than days above 90F/32C).

Frost can occur into June - but often once the cold breaks, it heats up very quickly. Our summers tend to be extremely humid and warm (though not by Southern US standards). The good news is that even in July, cold isn't always far away. A nice Canadian cold front can break the 90s and bring back 50sF/10sC (at least at night).

Fall can be a long stretch of awesome weather - cool clear days and crisp, clear nights, with leisurely leaf-watching tours - or it can be wet, cold and windy, heralding the coming winter.

The joke here is "There are two seasons in Minnesota - winter and road construction."

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Its 76 (F) here, sunny again with a slight breeze.
@stargazer: Where I live they say the two seasons are winter and getting ready for winter. ;))

I got my fishing liscense(sp?) today, so hopefully I can go fishing and birdwatching tomorrow.

More current weather:
Partly cloudy
wind: South at 17 mph
Humidity: 30%

Its supposed to rain on Tuesday

;)) wolfloversk.

Greetings from sunny (soon to be very rainy) southern Minnesota. I walked south from my parents' house this evening to try to spot Mercury near Venus. I disturbed a couple of deer and attracted a lot of mosquitoes, but I found the normally-elusive planet very easily, just to the lower right of Venus. Try it this week! Look for bright Venus in the west around 8:15 pm local time (at least in North America); Mercury will be the dimmer object nearby (more info, and a sketch, here).

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

We have about a foot and a half of snow. I am really wanting it to melt. I just got back from spring break where I snowmachined and skiied for a month and I loved it but now I want spring. I want sun. I want green grass. I want flowers. I want dry ground. I want to wear shorts and tank tops. I want to get a tan before June. *sob*

I saw Mercury once, about 10 years ago now. It's difficult to get a bead on it because it's typically low to the horizon, from everything I've ever read on it. And then you've got the sun practically right there, so I didn't dare put binoculars on it. I remember it appeared pinkish, but that's probably the atmospherics playing into it...it's basically a giant chunk of rock.

But a warm spring here doesn't always herald a hotter-than-average summer, thankfully.

That, my friend, is so good to know! #:-s

Interesting post, Hatter Booky. ;))

Demeter Valia, I surely hope you are satisfied with the cereal consumption here. ;)

Liberty, this Easter weekend was similar for us too. Very warm (80F-ish), whereas most Easters hold a definite chill, even at times with flurries or snow. Most unusual year for us, this summer-like weather is.

wolfloversk, hopefully you can get out fishing soon in similar type weather. It sounds lovely. And how cool about seeing all the different kinds of birds. :) Congrats on getting your fishing license. Enjoy!

stargazer, I could pretty well Ditto your post for our area the past few days. We did actually break a record on Friday—unfortunately I didn't hear (or look up) all the fun details as to what date the last record was on, etc. Yep, these temperatures are more befitting to June!

Interesting hearing more about Colorado, Fencer. Thanks for that. :)

kittengirl, I feel for your mom—and all with allergies—this time of year. (Do we have a sneezing emoticon? I think not.)

Again, 'gazer, I could echo your norm details of the seasons. And I'm glad we Canadians can share our cold fronts with you. ;))

Liberty, I know how the sun can feel nice on your skin, but do take precaution and wear protection. You may not notice it now, but when you're older, too much sun on the skin can cause a lot of damage ... and not just early wrinkles.

Ahhh, stargazer, I was trying the same thing last evening, but with no success, because there was a bank of clouds in the west. 'Twas disappointing, but I'm going to keep trying to see that elusive Mercury. So glad you caught it ... and even saw a few deer, to boot! (Ick on the mosquitoes, though. :p)

I arose early one morning before dawn last year (and I wish I could remember what month it was—for some reason I didn't record it :() to catch a glimpse of low-lying Mercury in the south-east from our local school yard, which commands a wide vista in that direction. It took me awhile to pinpoint it, but was a thrill when I finally did. Shadowlander, I, too, recall a pinkish/reddish tone to it.

narnian_at_heart, you still have that much snow?! Wow! *looks at your location* Aha, Alaska. Well, that's cool, but I hope for your sake spring comes soon. :)

After a weekend of those unseasonably warm temperatures here (although we live near the lake, so had a bit of relief), we are heading mid-week to some needed precipitation and daytime temps finally going down to 10C/50F, which is still above our normal of 7 or 8C/45F for this time of year. I guess I better stop hoping for one last good snowstorm, hmm? ;) Today, however, remains warm and sunny (any clouds that were around last night preventing me from seeing Mercury dissipated with the dawn), at about 21C/70F.

narnian_at_heart, perhaps you could send that snow down here, to either Minnesota or Ontario? Ours disappeared all too soon (though I doubt any of my friends would agree with that! ;)) )

Shadowlander, Mercury really does present a reddish/pinkish color much of the time. Part of it might be the atmosphere but as I recall its color is also due to the planet itself.

Last night may have been my last chance to see it for a few days, for the clouds have moved in and several days of rain are on tap for us now.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Oh I agree, although spring is nice too, so I'm kind of torn at the moment. It was cloudy with some sunny patches today, with some slight rain droplets on and off.

According to iGoogle its currently 71 (F), wind southwest at 6 mph, and the humidity is at 34%. Its to rain tomorrow and thurs :|

Yep, I wish stargazer's suggestion could come true, because I'd surely accept your snow, narnian_at_heart (but not too many others in our area would feel the same way, methinks :p).

Same here, wolfloversk. We're due for quite a lot of precipitation this week, quite a contrast to our warm sunny days over the long Easter weekend, but very refreshing and coolifying. :D

A personal treat: last night I checked outside about 8:15 p.m. (in the EST zone) where Venus was burning a bright hole in the clear sky. And lo and behold, just to the right, there was Mercury! I ran in, grabbed my binoculars for a 'closer' look, and reveled in that sight for quite a while. The sky was still a deep and very dark blue when I first caught a glimpse, with the glow of the sunset hardly visible in the west. Then later, once Venus and Mercury were no longer visible, I went into our backyard, circling the sky, almost greeting each familiar object as my eyes fixed upon it, beginning with Spica rising in the east, then back-tracking a bit to the Big Dipper (which is now tipping out its heavenly substance), moving ahead to Leo, then Sirius, the Hunter, the Pleiades, and Cassiopeia fading in the N-W. So lovely, especially knowing that I won't see them again until the skies clear here ... possibly nearly a week from now.

Today is a pretty day to start back at college.
There's clear blue skies and no storm watches. The only bad news is that the humidity is awful!

yes, I know.....but one thing that I have found out is that sunscreen makes my skin worse! last summer, I had forgotten sumscreen and I was with my family at a Christian music festival called Soulfest and the sun was really hot. the backs of my knees got really burned. so the next day, my mom put some sunscreen on them - it was not good. I had bright red patches and my skin just burned worse. it happens every time I put on sunscreen. it's weird! :(

^It doesn't help a burn after its happened, try aloe gel for that (it'll sting, but it should help) it only works as a preventative measure.

It rained earlier today, its still cloudy too, sorry but I'm not going to see Venus tonight. (Grr)

Its currently 60 (F) which is warmer than it was earlier, wind is west at 4 mph, and humidity is 71% but at least its cold and humid I can stand that, but in the summer when its hot humidity is rather annoying. At least with rain comes the fresh rainstorm smell :)
