Ohh...ellz_bellz you live in Australia, I've always wanted to go there, what's it like?
We had a small white out at 2:15ish today. Now I may be able to sled a little, luckily I think all of our buses got home safely. It's supposed to be really cold tomorrow. It's a full moon, or at least it's really close to a full moon. I would give a star report, but it's not quite dark enogh yet. It will probably be to clody anyway. It's really windy too.

it was warm and clear all day today and then we had a five minute snowstorm ! It was a real snowstorm too, and only lasted a couple minutes. Everything is covered in snow again but at least it's pretty fresh snow instead of dirty old snow...
yeah, it snowed, like GTG said, but the weird part is that on my street the snow only stuck to the dirt and the old snow, but not to the sidewalks or driveways because they were too wet!

44C? Wow! I'm pretty sure that I've never experienced an air temperature that high (though I have experienced a heat index value that warm).
I guess that's why I'm a hot-weather wimp. Today's high was -14C/6F, and we're dropping down to -23C/-10F...though it is winter here while it's summer Down Under. In fact, statistically this is our coldest week of the year.
It's cold and clear out there right now, and I'm looking forward to seeing that almost-full moon a little later this evening. Be sure to check out the moon Friday evening (North American time) - it's nearly full, and it will be rather close to bright Mars - which is opposite the sun the same day, so it's visible all night and is at its brightest.
The big weather news in the US is the huge low-pressure center over north Texas which is bringing snow and ice to many states, as well as heavy rain and summer-like storms to parts of Texas. Read more here.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

It's very hot, very dry, but when it rains, it POURS! As we discovered this afternoon, as we got our first rain in10 months. It's been bucketing since 1:00pm, and is likely to remain that way for a couple of days. Or weeks, as it is cyclone season. We had a cyclone a couple of weeks ago called 'Cyclone Neville'. Nothing serious, fairly minor compared to Cyclone Larry, in 2006 (not fun!)
I live in south-east Queensland, on the far east side of the country. The beaches are FANTASTIC, and theres a fair amount of rain forest. The rain forest climate (which is exactly what my house is in) ensures that its ridiculously hot and humid on the very worst days. But apart from that, I live in paradise.
I'm really jealous of all you guys that get snow. I've never seen snow, and the last time it snowed on the Sunshine Coast (yep, thats where I live) was in the ice age. The only place it really snows in Australia is on the mountains down south.
SO the temperature has dropped from 44C to 27C. HEAVEN!

today is really cold but it is sunny out. The new snow is now like ice
Well, especially tonight do I wish everyone clear skies in North America. stargazer mentioned this above as well. No clouds, though, invariably mean colder temperatures, and it's already quite nippy here (-16C/-3F). Enjoy the sight of Mar and the very bright moon in conjunction tonight!
Well it snowed last night, but of course it didn't stick, and I was actually able to see like five stars behind all the clouds...
Isn't it a treat when, after seemingly weeks of heavily-clouded skies, one finally gets a glimpse of some stars? I've said this before, but I find it akin to seeing old friends after a lengthy absence.
44°C, ellz_bellz. Ugh, is all I can say. It gets hot and humid at times in the summer here, but rarely does the temp make it past 30° (though with the humidex it can reach 40°) and that I find most unbearable.
ellz, I hope you can experience a lovely snowfall sometime. It's magical.
And I hope you get some snow soon! It sounds like you've had hardly any this season so far. We still have about 20 inches on the ground with more to come. I wish I could send some your way
I do too! Still, I'm glad at least some areas are getting a proper winter this year.
We've had quite frigid temperatures lately, but with very little snow (only flurries at times), until yesterday when we had a type of 'dream weather day', imo: it was interspersed with blustery snow squalls when I could hardly see across the street and then brilliantly sunny spells. The weather went back and forth between these two extremes all day until very early evening when the clouds rolled away and the skies became starkly clear. Oh my, how twinkly the stars were and it was so good to see them again. Pity there were no ISS passes or flares to be seen. A school park very near us provides a wide vista to the east and south-east, so on my walk at night I always stop there for a few minutes to take in the vast expanse of sky unsullied by buildings and direct lights.
The cold temperatures are supposed to continue for awhile yet, with sporadic flurries, but still not a good snowstorm in sight. *sniffle*

Today again was really sunny but the wind so was so biting cold. I went out to get the mail this afternoon in a tshirt and sweats (and some boots of course)...mistake! I couldn't stop shivering when I when I came bakc inside for like 10 minutes! So soo cold out...
Well, its freezing, but there is no snow on the ground. There's clouds, but it won't percipitate. At least I could see the moon Fri night and it was HUGE. The second largest moon I've ever seen.

Aaaannndd, it's snowing again. Another 6 inches or so of the light powder. It looks quite pretty.
Happy Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, "predicting" 6 more weeks of winter. (The local meteorologists like to joke that "only" 6 more weeks of winter would be great around here - since it can snow well into the merry month of May).
The Weather Channel has indicated that Phil has only a 39% accuracy rate - lower than meteorologists.
The whole thing appears to be uniquely eastern North American, though it seems to trace its roots back to European animal prognosticators (either a badger or a bear, it seems).
But the date itself seems to correlate to Imbolc (later Candlemas), a cross-quarter day of the ancient calendar, marking the halfway point between the winter solstice and spring equinox. (Incidentally, it's about 6 weeks until the March Equinox, so even 6 weeks of winter isn't out of line).
