johobbit: We own four and a half acres and we're far enought from the city that we get quite a few animals, and ussualy we can spot a few constellations.
It was really cold yesterday, the ice froze around our truck tires and got it stuck. My dad got it out though. I don't think it's as bad today, but I haven't been out yet. It's nice and sunny though.

I live in a close neighborhood where everyone shares the side walk and we all help each other shovel the snow.....sort of in the city, but not on a main road!

I had to shovel our front walkway today. All the snow underneath has turned kinda in to ice. It's funny how when you're out you're face gets cold but the rest of you is sweating. When you're like sledding or doing physical labour of some sort . I'm hoping the snow will melt soon but we still have over a foot
at least the sun is shining.....
we shoveled our walkway and driveway so well that there is no more snow on the ground! luckly there has not been any new snow.....

ugh it's 22 degrees out right now...I'm so cold. I have like three layers on and I'm INSIDE!
I'm getting chilled just reading your post, GtG! Reminds me of when it's really cold and windy outside, and the heat just can't quite keep up with the chilling effect.
Nothing like that here this week, however. It rained again this past weekend, followed by cold nights which made everything a skating rink. It may sound odd but we're not really used to winter ice storms up here; it's usually too cold. Not to worry, though, forecasts call for temps well below 0F/-17C again here by next weekend, with a few inches of snow and high winds coming in the meantime.
I loved your description of the ISS pass through the stars, jo! Orion's my favorite constellation; it's just so spectacular in a dark sky. I had a chance to view several ISS passes and Iridium flares in our clear skies earlier this month, though none of them were quite so spectacular as yours. And this week looks cloudy here. Hope you have a chance to see more of the same!
And I hope you get some snow soon! It sounds like you've had hardly any this season so far. We still have about 20 inches on the ground with more to come. I wish I could send some your way.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
It's raining right now so the snow is all slushy ...yuck.
NOOOOO!!!! Its raining and the rain is causing the snow to melt Well at least I finally got to go sledding yesterday. It was really icy this morning, but the rain made that melt too. It's really windy and there is a lot of grass visible. Oh well, I guess we were due for the January Thaw to hit. I don't mind rain in the summer, but today its just so gloomy out, and my bio teacher was gonna take us sledding Friday... there goes that idea

I'm glad our snow is melting but now it's all nasty and slushy . I actually never went sledding, but I didn't last year either. I don't really enjoy it anyway...but my friends and I were supposed to go skiing and then they'd sleep over on Friday but I don't know if that's happening now . Oh my gosh, I just noticed a patch of grass in our yard! We had more than a foot of snow yesterday! Rain does wierd things
Our warm weather of the last few days has quickly soured. Blizzard warnings are posted for much of Minnesota - meaning rapidly falling temperatures (to well below 0F), high winds (up to 50 mph/80 kph), heavy snow and no visibility are the order of the evening. Over 200 miles of roads are closed due to whiteout conditions (southwest Minnesota is very flat and there's not much to stop the wind as it keeps blowing the highways shut faster than they can be plowed).
Here in the metro area it's not so serious but travel is still discouraged. The wind is still keeping our driveway and streets full of snow even though they were cleared off earlier today.
But it's quite pretty if you don't have to travel in it.

it's sunny out today so the little snow that's left from the downpour yesterday is melting...
yay! there was SO much rain this weekend and it washed away almost all of the snow! it's a bit warmer and I am happy! I can't wait until spring comes.....I feel a bit like Mr. Tumnus, waiting for Winter to be over......

Well it snowed last night, but of course it didn't stick, and I was actually able to see like five stars behind all the clouds...

today was another nasty day...the snow is still melting (thankfully) but it's still cold, even though the sun is out....
It was 44 Degrees (C) today. Thats the Australian Summer for you. It's almost unbearable, and my school uniform is like a sack. NOT very fun
We're waiting for the drought-breaking rain, its due at the end of this week!
Proud that VDT is Australian
