What do you think of the score?

:D That's my favourite part! I've been listening to the score(s) since the movies came out, but I only just saw Curse of the Black Pearl last month. ;))

Which is your favorite of the movies?
Dead Man's Chest for sure. It had everything that I loved about the first one but was still new and exciting

Who is your favorite character?
James Norrington. I'm usually partial to "stick-in-the-mud" characters and Mr. Norrington is no exception.

Who is your favorite POTC actor/actress?
Johnny Depp! Not even a question. Depp is my favourite actor and although this isn't my favourite of his characters per se, it's still a fantastic performance. Without him these movies would be failures.

What do you think of the score?
I like the score. Pretty epic.

What, for you, was the most surprising part in the movies?
The first big surprise was how good The Curse of the Black Pearl was. I wasn't expecting much. The second surprise came when I saw how good Dead Man's Chest was. I was surprised they could make a sequel better than the first. At this point I was feeling confidant about the franchise so naturally the next big surprise was how bad At World's End was. :(

Have you seen the new movie?
Not yet. I will sometime this week.

How does the new director compare with the director of the three previous films?
NA

How would you rate the POTC franchise in general?
I love the first two. The third one sucked. I'm cautiously optomistic about the new one. :|

Which is your favorite of the movies?
I'm going to take the risk of annoying everyone and say the third. I know some parts of it were really cheesy and horrible, and I obviously don't like those parts. But the stories of my favorite characters, such as Tia Dalma and Lord Beckett, really came to a head in that one. So that was the one I most enjoyed. It wasn't the one that was most well-made, though. I'd say the best-quality one is the first one, though strangely that's my least favorite. (Though I love all of them). I just love the characters more in the second and third.

Who is your favorite character?
Tia Dalma. Beckett. Norrington. And Lt. Gillette. Lt. Gillette is this sarcastic British officer, who appears in the first one. He doesn't have that big a part, but what part he did have caught my notice. (He's the one who says "He's already informed of that. A little mermaid flopped up on deck and told him the whole story". He's also the one who Jack holds at gu point, the one who almost gets shot by Pintel, and the one who almost gets run over by the ship while he's in the small boat.) I hear he's going to be in the fourth one, so I'm excited about that.

Who is your favorite POTC actor/actress?
The best actor, of course, is Johnny Depp, because he did such a fantastic job of creating the character of Jack. Also I love Naomie Harriss who plays Tia Dalma. And, of course, Geoffrey Rush who plays Barbossa. There's a lot of other great actors on there as well, such as Tom Hollander and Jonathon Pryce.

What do you think of the score?
One of the best movie scores ever. Seriously. But then, Hans Zimmer is always good.

What, for you, was the most surprising part in the movies?
(Dead Man's Chest/At World's End Spoiler)

Have you seen the new movie?
Not yet. I really want to. Especially because one of my favorite characters from the first movie is in it. I'm a little nervous about it though. Most of the original actors are gone, there's no Tia or Beckett, and it even has a different director. Plus I've heard some things about it that don't sound that good.

How does the new director compare with the director of the three previous films?
Can't tell yet.

How would you rate the POTC franchise in general?
So far, I love it. All three I've seen so far are favorite movies of mine. Some parts of them can be a bit cheesy. But overall I think they're fantastic. :-bd

Who is your favorite character?
James Norrington. I'm usually partial to "stick-in-the-mud" characters and Mr. Norrington is no exception.

Norrington is pretty awesome.

Which is your favorite of the movies?
Curse of the Black Pearl, I love the originality of it, though I hated the movie at first.

Who is your favorite character?
I guess I'll have to go with Sparrow. He's easily the best in the movies. No movies without him.

Who is your favorite POTC actor/actress?
Actress- Keira Knightley. Depp is great of course, but overall I love more of her stuff.

What, for you, was the most surprising part in the movies?
CotBP-
Jack in prison, and the pirate stuck his hand through going into the moonlight, showing his bones. (I didn't know it'd have that).
DMC-
Barbossa of course, at the end.
AWE-
The beginning, killing even the little boy who sang first.
OST-

Spoiler
The entrance to the fountain of youth

Have you seen the new movie?
Yes.

How does the new director compare with the director of the three previous films?
I think he did a fine job. I missed some things from the first three, but I don't think it has to do with the director- but with the script.

How would you rate the POTC franchise in general?
8,7,6,7. Overall, I'd give it 7.6. The first is terrific, I loved the second still despite some flaws. The third I like but it's a bit of a mess, too complicated and long. The fourth is shorter and much simpler, and I like it all the more for it. :)

Just got back from seeing POTC 4. 4 rivals 1 in my opinion. Perhaps it should have been number 2. :P

Anyway, I'll probably blog my full run-down sometime next week, but for now, a few thoughts on the new film:
Judge Sparrow was quite humorous, and reminded me of Captain Hook from when I was little. Major points there.
Penelope Cruz's introduction. Rocked. Seeing Jack fight Jack was great.
    The mermaids were AWESOME.
Score was good, not too bad, but not amazingly new, either.
The missionary and Christianity were portrayed in a generally good light. The missionary doesn't double cross people or anything weird and un-Christ like. He is a good man, who has pity, but isn't pitiful, is honest, but not clueless. He and Serena (the mermaid) are a very, very good set of characters that I wouldn't mind seeing back later.
The mermaid fight was awesome. [/listy9u1dop8]

The voodoo doll kinda ticked me off.
The mermaids needed...something else. Specifically on their upper side.
I don't like incomplete endings. I want full closure, but there wasn't--seems they're leaving it open for a sequel (not surprising).
Barbossa's character, at the beginning of the film, is a little too stiff.
      [/listy9u1dop8]
Those are just off the top of my head, now that I'm home. Would be interested to see what everyone else's thoughts are on those same points. :)

Which is your favorite of the movies? The Curse of the Black Pearl I loved that the ride came before the movie and was happy when the story-line was pretty good. Even more than following the story, I had a blast picking out scenes from the ride in that first movie. So much fun. In terms of humor, I was most cracked up by the lines in At World's End.

Who is your favorite character? Will Turner, his earnestness and his overall story-arch. We often see the other characters from his eyes. He sometimes falls into reacting to situations he gets put into rather than acting. But he takes his hits and learns his lessons. He isn't perfect and his situation isn't but somehow it works for him.

Have you seen the new movie? Yes, it was better than I expected If anyone has any ideas why she did that let me know. I asked my friends with me and the consensus was, "Who knows why mermaids do anything they do?"

How would you rate the POTC franchise in general? 8. They have been some of the movies I most look forward to seeing come out in the past few years. They can be cheesy sometimes, seeming to pander to mass audience with cheap gags and flashy one-liners (which admittedly I thoroughly enjoy and laugh when my friends quote them) and at other times seem like a biting commentary on the moral ambiguety of our increasingly secular society. I've enjoyed all four movies and would go see a fifth.

Which is your favorite of the movies?
The first one, BY A LONG SHOT. The 2nd and 3rd ones had some good scenes, but I didn't like them overall. But I was obsessed with the first one when it came out, I got the DVD and the soundtrack right away and I've lost count how many times I've watched it.

Who is your favorite character?
Captain Barbossa and Jack Sparrow, the best scenes are when they are together =))

Who is your favorite POTC actor/actress?
Geoffrey Rush and Keira Knightley

What do you think of the score?
It's awesome! They did an amazing job with the music in these movies.

What, for you, was the most surprising part in the movies?
Probably when that pirate child was hung, yikes!

Have you seen the new movie?
No but I hope to soon, I don't have high expectations though

How would you rate the POTC franchise in general?
Honestly I feel it's going downhill, the original was the best. Of course, I haven't seen the 4th one yet..

I saw the new movie yesterday :D It was awesome!!
Now, I have only seen the 1st and the 4th, because my mom doesn't want me to see the 2nd and 3rd yet. The reason I can't see them is because I'm not even a teenager yet. Like, my older sister (who just happens to be a teenager) has seen them both, so I'm hoping that once I turn 13 I'll get to see them...or maybe I'll even get to see them sooner!
All right, enough about me :P
Some thoughts on the new movie: (I'll just go ahead and stick these thoughts in a spoiler ;) )

Well, I suppose that's all for now...

Yay! Pirates!!! :D

Which is your favorite of the movies?

Definitely the first. Dead Man's Chest and At World's End were fun, but nowhere near as good (except in the area of visual effects). The two sequels suffer from obvious rushed production by good old Disney. I think with a bit more time, the trilogy could have been great!

Who is your favorite character?

Capt. Jack, of course. ;)

Who is your favorite POTC actor/actress?

Hmm... tough call. I enjoy Johnny Depp's performances, but also liked Bill Nighy as Davy Jones (amazing CGI, by the way! :-bd )

What do you think of the score?

Funny, just finished a series of reviews of the Pirate scores on my blog. :p You can read my thoughts on them by following the link in my sig. :) (shameless self promotion ;) )

What, for you, was the most surprising part in the movies?

Hmm.... not sure. Probably most of 2 and 3. :P

Have you seen the new movie?

Nope and by the looks f it will have to wait for the DVD. But I WILL see it sometime!!! :D

Edit:

Concerning the lack of clothing on the mermaids: I'm sure the production team was trying to give a classic version of mermaids and not the "friendly Disney" version most people know.

Then again, this is coming from someone who has not seen the film and is only going by the previews... :P

If anyone has any ideas why she did that let me know. I asked my friends with me and the consensus was, "Who knows why mermaids do anything they do?"

I do. ;)
First option: if the last time this dude untied you, and you stopped to visit, you both got grabbed and nearly killed, at least one of you should try to get away the second time.
Second option: Would you trust someone who seems in cahoots with the person who tried to kill you? I'd go away, too.
Third option (and most likely in my opinion): the Pirates were pretty open about their end destination. Mermaids can be pretty vengeful if you get them mad. Who wouldn't be hopping mad at Black Beard? She probably went to go do whatever she could to make sure he did NOT get eternal life or whatever. Since she had no way of knowing BB was dying, her next best option was either to try to drag him underwater and drown him, or to help Jack. Best way is usually to help Jack. You can always go look for your true love later.[/list1qfp0t5a]
Honestly I feel it's going downhill, the original was the best. Of course, I haven't seen the 4th one yet..

4 rivals 1. If it wasn't for the fact that the map was needed to get to the fountain, 4 should have been 2. While Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly were great in the first film, bringing them back for two films was unnecessary and took the main focus away from Jack and HIS adventures and tried to divide it between teams Jack and Will/Elizabeth. I think the main reason why 2 and 3 (especially 2) felt so muddled and annoying was because there was no clear main character or, really, villain.

Concerning the lack of clothing on the mermaids: I'm sure the production team was trying to give a classic version of mermaids and not the "friendly Disney" version most people know.

Well, they definitely included the Disney tradition of making unrealistic expectations about the feminine form. Anyway, most of the classic painters that painted mermaids in that way also painted normal women in the same attitude. ;)) I've seen plenty of better-clad classic mermaid paintings. What bothers me the most about it is that it actually inhibits the reality of the mermaids. Because their hair MUST be placed a certain way, part of it can't move freely in the water which looks--weird.

    Does this make me....team clam-shell bikini? :P

Just to clarify, I really really love the mermaids. I guess that's why the detail bugs me so much. :/ to quote from my facebook:

Mermaids are cooler than vampires. Vampires are just blood suckers. Mermaids drown and eat people. And shoot cool seaweed ropes out of their hands.

    ;))

EDIT: And with that, I'm off to see it again. Devon (age 12) objected to seeing Soul Surfer, which was our other option, so...POTC round 2 begins. ;))

@ LA. Yeah, I have often wondered why everyone in paintings during a certain period of time are never wearing clothes.... ;))

Hmm, that is a good point about having to make the hair not move and such. And no, that does not make you a "team clam-shell bikini" person. :p

I guess I'll just have to see the movie to formulate a better opinion on the subject, as well as the film as a whole. ;) :)

Which is your favorite of the movies? I don't know. I like them all. The second one probably.

Who is your favorite character? Elizabeth. I love how she transforms from this dainty lady into this fighting pirate! Jack Sparrow is funny and awesome. Also, I like Will Turner too.

Who is your favorite POTC actor/actress? Oh, I don't know. Probably Orlando Bloom.

What do you think of the score? One word: AMAZING!

What, for you, was the most surprising part in the movies?

Have you seen the new movie? No. I live in a small town with no theatre. I was hoping it would come out before I left college for home but sadly, it didn't. I'll have to wait until the DVD comes out.

How does the new director compare with the director of the three previous films? No idea.

How would you rate the POTC franchise in general? I really like it! They're awesome movies! However, I've heard from people that the new movie isn't expected to be as good. Some people feel that they're scraping the bottom of the barrel and should have just quit after the last one. Also, that they've gotten bigger and better and more dramatic with each movie and that they can't keep that up indefinetly.
