A long, long time ago, there used to be a thread called "Fashion, Costumes and Pretty Dresses." When the switch to the new forum occurred, some how the Costume part got dropped. I think there is plenty of costume activity going on out there, and I have witnessed a rise in cosplay. Thus, I present you with the official thread for all of our imaginative clothing. Tell us about your latest project, and show us some of your favorites.

I recently have been working on a mad hatter cosplay design recently. I'll post some of my design thoughts in a bit. ;)

Oo, that sounds fun, Lady Lilliandil! Right now, I'm working on a Mad Hatter design and am having a ton of fun. I got my hat Thursday, and then Thursday evening I found a teacup and saucer ring. I haven't taken a picture of it yet, but I think it is really cute. Its only large enough to comfortably fit on my little finger, though. :(

I love costuming! I'm a beginner, but my family is going to help me a lot. :D I'm mostly interested in movie costumes, such as from Narnia, LotR and Star Wars. However, I do also love forties and Civil War time period costumes. :)

I would love to see pictures of your Scottish Renaissance dress, Lady Lilliandil. :D

Could you make the ring bigger by cutting it open, Wren? Or would that just damage your finger when you wear it?

Have you done anything from the forties, Lucy of Narnia? I can't decide which I like better, 30's, 40's, or 50's, myself. I have huge collections of inspiration images from those eras. ;))

Could you post some of those images from the 40's & 50's? If not, that's fine, just figured I'd ask.

AslansChild, I'm so sorry it's taken me this long to remember to post an answer to your question!

I've actually pulled a lot of my collection from here and other threads there. I think you might want to go to the end and start working your way backwards, there's so many pages. So hopefully that helps! :)

can people who know about sewing, give me feed back about the sewing of the jacket and patches. Not what they are of but how they have been sewn.

So back when I was thinking about attending Comic-Con, I thought about pulling together a 1950's inspired TARDIS costume. This is all a pipe dream, of course, but if I were to put this together, this is how I would do it.

1. Start with a 1950's style dress, TARDIS blue. Something like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kittybomb/3875111965/ or this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/48297189@N04/4425982087/ .

2. I'd add TARDIS details to it; a little like this: http://pull.imgfave.netdna-cdn.com/imag ... 303903.jpg but with more whimsy and style. I wouldn't want it to be a literal depiction of TARDIS windows or whatever, but more of a fashion choice that resembled that.

3. Finish off with a little blue hat, like this: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_iyrya8fis-4/S ... er+hat.jpg but with the TARDIS flashing light on top.

4. Add vintage nylons and heels, period pin curls and makeup and there you go!

I dunno. I thought it would be different from most TARDIS dresses you see around. ;))

My guess is that your patches were machine embroidered, ILF. You digitize the design and then the machine does all the work one color at a time.

Or, if you were ambitious and had steady hands you could take the presser foot off your regular machine, set it on satin stitch and freehand the design. Work slowly!!!

If you wanted to add more patches, I think the easiest way would be to whip stitch them on by hand.

I did use a machine but only a normal sewing machine on a really close zig zag stitch. Mainly because i don't have enough money for those fancy machines.

Ack! I'm sorry, I thought you had bought the jacket! ...I hope that comes out as a compliment, because, yeah. Fantastic job! :)

Actually, it already has a cut in it from the original designer...it just fits best on my pinky. The little claspy thing pinches otherwise. ;))

School has worn me out soooo much. I've done about no cosplay stuff besides some small work on my hatter costume. Somewhere, I have pictures for when I threw some extra stuff together with it and wore it to a Halloween party. I'll have to post those whenever I run across them.

I do have an idea for a new cosplay. Next December, I am going to have a long red velvety dress and matching handbag, with some holly decorations/hairpieces/etc. Any child that asks me if I am Mrs. Claus shall get a candy cane.

I just decided that today. Don't ask why. I'm not quite sure, other than it would be a cool excuse for dressing up. ;))
