So I have a terrible cold right now and I feel awful. So I was just thinking, what do you do when you are sick? What helps you get better? Chicken soup? Lots of sleep? Share your getting well tips.
Personally, I find fresh orange juice helps me a lot. And lots of water and tea.

I guess it depends on what type of sick. If it's a cold, I like to eat a lot of canned fruit, juice, and tea. If it's a stomach flu or something, about the only thing that makes me feel better is Squirt or 7Up. For anything, though, SLEEEP is the best thing.
Last November I had a bad cough for almost a month and I lost my voice. I must have gone through 3 bags of cough drops, lol. That sure was annoying.
Yeah, one time- last winter I think it was- I actually lost most of my voice and had to whisper. I was writing things down on a piece of paper instead of trying to speak. The best thing in that case was to rest my voice.

I've actually heard that orange juice isn't too great for sore throats because it's so acidic. But, whatever works for you!
Sore throats are pretty much the worst thing that can ever happen to me, I HATE 'em! When I get one I pretty much just take up residence in front of the computer or TV and don't move. I find that garlic pills really helps prevent sickness though. They're fairly small, you can take as many as you want, and it keeps your immune system up. And you can't smell them on your breath or taste them or anything! Apparently garlic has an extremely high level of antioxidants, so that's why I guess!
My Dad swears by BBQ chips when he has a sore throat. Either that or salt and vinegar. My brothers loves eating as much as possible when he has one, but I try to eat as little as possible

I definitely agree about the garlic as preventive measures, the fresher the better! But garlic pills sound like a good alternative as well if you don't like fresh garlic.
I find lemonade, made with fresh lemons, really helps with the sore throat. What also works well is if you mix apple cider vinegar with water and honey (more honey and water than apple cider vinegar, though!), and drink it slowly. Although one would not want this all the time, because it is powerful.
I hope you feel better soon, Valiant!

Hehe, garlic/garlic pills remind me of a time when we were planning to go to the doctor a little later so my mom gave me some garlic for a sore throat. It was fresh garlic and while I enjoyed the taste and smell (I heard I smelt like pasta all day), the smell stuck with me and my bed for a little while.
Another thing for a cold/sore throat/stuffy nose--rubbing Vicks Vapor Rub on your chest, on your back, and on the stuffy nose. Especially the latter before a shower.
I find gargling salt and hot water helpful. It is a little uncomfortable, but my throat feels wonderful after. Like Fanny said, I find honey helpful, too. An Indian remedy for a cough is honey mixed with ginger powder. Likewise, honey and ginger mixed in hot water or weak tea.
The two worse sickness I've gotten are bronchitis and a hard cold/perhaps a mild case of the flu?. (for two years, this horrid pleghm-filled sickness plagued me as long as winter weather persisted.) Thank the Lord that I haven't experienced that this year.
The second sickness was this year, I felt my throat was some raspy and a little sick so my mom gave me NyQuil the night before we left for Winter Retreat. I woke up the next morning to find my throat aching and vocal cords unable to function properly without pain. Hot water and tea helped, but I think what I expereinced later on was probably a mild case of the flu. (tears constantly pouring down: a little embarassing because it was right afte the last convicting message at retreat and drowsiness.)
Plenty of rest, many liquids and green beans are your best friends in illness!

eating nothing but vegetables.
Ouch, georgiefan1. Sorry to hear that. I bet it could be a lot of things but the first thing to ask is probably are you under a lot of stress? Sounds cheesy, but it's surprising just how much stress can affect health.
TheGeneral, my stress level at the moment is probabally through the roof

How ironic, because I just came home two days ago and immediately came down with something, not sure if its allergies or a cold or what.
Orange Juice! Highly important preventative measure! Also if you're feeling sick NO milk!

I rarely get sick, but when I do the worst of it (with cold & flu) is congestion. I hate the feeling that I can't breathe. I'm the guy that you see at the pharmacy with a red nose and watery eyes that's picking up the gallon jug of Afrin.
My Dad swears by BBQ chips when he has a sore throat. Either that or salt and vinegar.
There's a large degree of logic with that, especially on the second one...lots of salt and vinegar chips (one of my favorites!) tends to make my mouth feel like it's going numb. I wonder that it might have the same effect on one's throat as well, plus the salt and vinegar are perfectly fine antiseptics in their own right. *puts this down on his list of things to eat next time he catches the flu list*
I'm not a regular drinker of tea, but when I do I usually down some hot Earl Grey. For colds and flu I recommend making a very large mug, pouring in lots of honey, and a large splash of lemon juice. Your sore throat will thank you for it!

Thanks for the all the "get wells" and tips everyone!
georgiefan1, there may be a number of reasons you are feeling this way. Like TheGeneral said, stress could be a large factor. Also, I find that I get headaches when I'm dehydrated. Maybe drinking some water might help. You might want to see a doctor if it persists and/or gets worse. Hope you feel better. I hate headaches as well.
