A son of Bin Laden, two couriers, a woman being "used as a shield" also died and two other women were injured. Also many of the practices for recruiting new terrorists remain intact.
I will not view the death of another human being as a good thing. My emotions have been mixed today. The "self" in me wants to join the crowd and rejoice but I am going to remain true to my convictions.

Conina, that was such a wonderful quote, I had to use it as my fb status!
As I wrote to someone earlier: "I wish they had just captured him instead of having killed him. I am only happy because I hope this means that the war is now over. I am not happy that a soul has been lost."
"Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you!"
- Dr. Seuss
Wonderful quote Conina, and mm1991, that's a good idea! Permission to steal it and set it asa my status as well?
I am not rejoicing over his loss, only praying that God knocked some sense into them in their final hours... and that they turned to him, and I am relieved that he can kill no others. Praying too that this will be the end of the battle. (*can edit this if it breaks a rule!*)

mm1991, that's a good way of putting it.
wolfloversk I agree. That's how I feel too. You can use it on facebook.

Finding out that bin laden was dead after coming home from a bad day at work was trully the highlight of my evening. I'm so glad they got him and now I'm happy that one of my high school teachers I kept in touch with over the years who lost her granddaughter in the 9/11 attack finally has a lot of closure. Bless her heart.

Intelligence services and SEAL Team Six (DEVGRU) did a job with lethal precision - unpleasant but necessary business. Needed to happen. Most likely wont hear even a small comment from any of them.
Celebrate? Nah. Too many pieces to pick up and people to put back together. Dust off. Move along. Take care of each other.
“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
Apparently the quote that I posted by MLK Jr. was not or at leat some of it wasn't by him. That is what I get for posting something I saw on facebook without actually checking. My apologies to those who copied and pasted.

My feelings are that I'm glad that this dangerous man will no longer pose a threat to anyone. I am also satisfied that justice has been done. However I am not "happy" by his death; not because I had any sympathy for him (his actions were disgusting), but because I believe its wrong to "rejoice" in someone's death- even Bin Laden's.
Firstly, what we have to remember is that this war of fighting terrorisim is not over. There are plenty of people who are able to take over Bin Laden's place. As well, I fear there will be some retaliation. Nonetheless, I suppose this is a step forward.
It seems to me that the people who were mostly affected by the 9/11 attacks are quite sombre about it while others, who were not affected as much, are celebrating in the street and taking it too far.
So that's my opinion on the matter. I hope the world is a little bit safer now, but I also understand that we have a long way to go. We should keep the victims and families of terrorist attacks in our prayers.

I agree with you. You said it better than I could. Killing may be necessary--I am not one of those who says all incidents of it are murder--but I don't think it should be celebrated the way that some people are celebrating it. Death, even the death of an enemy, should be taken seriously.

... and I’ve been hearing a lot of cracks about how they’re already planning the movie for this
To be fair, the movie has been in the works for some now, only it had an open ending. Now, they can close it properly with his death.

Huh, that's weird? No worries it wasn't your fault, but this does desearve some investigation as to who changed it and why...

What deserves even more investigation is how someone like Bin Laden could live for six years, escaping detection from the authorities, next door to a military academy in an old British garrison town, not too far away from the Swat Valley, flooded out a year or so ago. What is even more amazing that the binning of Bin Laden could be carried out so brilliantly without apparent knowledge by those same authorities.
I'm also curious as to what will be discovered about his activities during that time whilst still alive. And a little disgusted both that he was living in so much luxury, not in a cave on the Pakistani border, and that it is now claimed that he was apparently unarmed when killed. I also wonder if he really is dead, not having seen the body.
I agree wild jubilant celebrations might seem as tasteless on this occasion as were the wild jubilant celebrations in some countries after 11th September 2001. Perhaps it makes such celebrations no better than those people's behaviour on that occasion. But I still can't help feeling some sort of closure and relief that this man has been taken out of the story.
Don't forget that what this man stood for was for the introduction of some sort of caliphate run by sharia law, affecting people's freedom to travel, to choose their lives, marriage partners, and much else. This is the man who authorised execution of captives on television, who make punishment, in particular of hapless women, a spectator sport, and who was responsible for the deaths of so many fellow Muslims who disagreed with his ideas on their faith, including those employees who worked in the Twin Towers and died with their workmates at that time.
We had a huge discussion at school about this in some of my classes. There were some kids who were, let's not say celebrating, but they were glad that he's dead. And there were some kids who were like why are we celebrating this. One girl said that now that he's dead, attacks will get worse because he has become a martyr for his followers. Another kid said that well maybe we still have some time because they don't have a leader to organize them and there might be some fighting between those followers as to who gets power. So there was a lot of conflicting ideas about this topic.
I really liked what my chemistry teacher said on this. She said "Yes Bin Laden did many terrible things and he deserved what he got, but we shouldn't celebrate death. We need to celebrate life. We shouldn't stoop down to their level by celebrating a human being's death."

I'll go with the quote from Mark Twain:
"I've never wished a man dead, but I've read a few obituaries with pleasure."
The difference is that people wanted to hear the stories, whereas I never met anyone who wanted to read the essays
If he's dead, it was in God's timing. It was God's plan.
(I've heard various arguments and discussions about the matter, but I won't go into whether he had a fair trial, whether he was actually killed, whether they should have buried him right away or anything like that. Because I really don't know.)
I'm not glad that he could be in hell right now. But there are a whole bunch of Psalms in the Bible where David prays for protection from his enemies, or for the destruction of those who do evil and hate God. And I think we can praise/thank God when that happens-- that we're "delivered from them."
