I'm not dancing in the streets or gleefully rejoicing over him roasting in hell, but I am glad Bin Laden is dead. I don't think he deserves any sympathy either. Save your sympathy for the untold numbers of people who are in agony in hell because Bin Laden's terrorist network sent them there.
As many do, I rejoice that justice has been served. Though maybe I should, I find it hard to pitty someone who has caused so many so much pain. If I'm going to pitty someone, it's going to be the people who Bin Laden hurt.
Rejoicing that the WW is dead? An apropriate way to put things into perspective a bit.
Well put Bookewyrm.

I just hope this means the end of the war there.

I'm not convinced that we humans understand what happens after we die as well as we think we do. I believe that God is just and merciful both and whatever system is in place after we die is the fairest and best system possible.
I think the events from 9/11 to now have been one long tragedy wrought up in death, fear, and chaos- in some ways a continuation of the tragedy that began in the garden of Eden. I feel like this is just one more plot point in the dark drama as we wait for God to come back.
Bin Laden's death will most likely be used to justify more atrocities towards us. I think the events of the last 10 years are more akin to Hamlet than LWW. In Hamlet everyone acts on a system of vengeance and they all end up dead. In LWW, grace leads to miracles. The only thing powerful enough to stop vengeful destruction is grace. *edits

Can I be guilty enough to say I didn't know who this guy was until today?
I agree, no one should celebrate the death of someone who won't be going to a good place in afterlife, but I do think that it's a bit of relief that he can no longer do wrong to innocent people. Sadly, this death won't make a big impact and make the world a little bit of a better place, but it does lift just a smidge of weight off our shoulders.
And I agree, Conina, the world's getting darker and darker, I can only wonder what time God will return. Almost ten years have passed since 9/11 occured, but we're still trying to understand it all, and it still may be years before this pain goes away. Obviously, revenge isn't going to end this struggle, but if nothing else, people will do whatever it takes to try to heal something, and whether all that's happened has been good or not, God's still watching us.
(Sorry, did I go into politics there? If needed, I can delete it )
We are sliding a bit off topic here. The topic is not about what might happen or what brought it about. Just tread lightly, that's all we ask.
No proof has been brought forward he is actually dead. The only picture of him allegedly being dead was quickly debunked as forgery. And that's just the beginning.
It doesn't matter.
If the U.S. says he's dead and they close the case, then that is the official statement and nothing can be done.

wow. wow. WOW!
I heard this this morning. it kind of shocked me. I've been hearing about Bin Ladin for so long that it's weird to think that he's dead. I hope this is good news, not bad news. like, I hope this doeosn't spark some new uprising of craziness or something.

His wife (one of them) confirmed that it WAS him.

That was my exact reaction when I heard it last night. I've kept up with the news very thoroughly, and I was starting to doubt we'd ever get him. It was kinda like finding out when Michael Jackson died. It hit you with a shock (and no folks, 'm not comparing the two...)

I would like to remind everyone that there is no conclusive evidence that Bin Laden is in Hell. For all we know, he may have converted before being killed. Just sayin'.

I never thought I would ever agree with one of our most outspoken Muslim spokespeople who said in today's Daily Telegraph that it was a relief to see this man has died finally. Hopefully, it will be then end of not only some of the terrorists' distortions of Muslim dogma but also the prejudice, anxiety and unhappiness it has caused our Muslim neighbours.
Well this story certainly blew up my newsfeed on facebook, but yeah it did come, like Clive Staples Sibelius, said with the MJ analogy (even though the two guys don't have anything in common, just the shock value)
Good quote Conina...
I’m not completely on board with everyone cheering around on the news last night as if we were a high school basketball team who just beat our rival team, but it relives me that he himself can do no more harm…
And as for proof, I just read an article saying that a video might be coming out... and I’ve been hearing a lot of cracks about how they’re already planning the movie for this
(hope that article wasn't too political or anything, I can remove it if necessary)
