23. Favorite ornament theme or color? I like the angels.
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner?Everything.
25. What do you want for Christmas this year?A Tangled Web by L.M.Montgomery. One of her best, but very few places have it.

3. When do you put up the tree? Usually the first week of December, or the last week of November.
4. When do you take the tree down? Depends on when we get around to it. Usually the first half of January.

6. Favorite gifts received as a child? Probably my porcelain dolls...and my lump of coal (yes, I did get coal, but only because Santa was proving to me he really does give out coal. )
7. Hardest person to buy for? I don't know. Now that I buy presents instead of making them, it's not that tough. Probably my 4 1/2 year-old sister.
8. Easiest person to buy for? My 12 yr-old sister.

21. Open presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas morning, but only when my parents give the OK. We're not allowed to come upstairs until then. As a child, Santa actually left "traps" made of string and bells to try and deter us from getting to the goods too early (didn't do much good)!

I don't celebrate Advent, unfortunately. I didn't even know what that was! That would be kind of nice to celebrate, though, to prepare for Christmas in a religious sense. Where I live, the religion has almost been taken out of Christmas (not in my church, though, thank goodness!). Also, sadly enough, where I live, few people even know what Epiphany is!! I only know about it because we would celebrate it in my Jr. High French class. I wish we celebrated it, though...it's such a fun holiday!

25. What do you want for Christmas this year? A hockey goalie helmet, a sleeve for my laptop, random accessories for the video camera I'm buying, and a few CD's.
Now here's my Christmas story. As soon as the snow starts falling, one of my little siblings will run toward the tape player (yes, tape player. 90% of our Christmas music is on tapes) saying, "It's snowing, it's snowing, Chrismas is coming" and my Mom will say, "No, you can't turn that on. It's not after Thanksgiving.
My little sister will frequently ask to put up the tree but my Mom always says not until after Thanksgivin. Normally, on the weekend after Thanksgiving, we'll put up the tree. The tree is an artificial tree that my grandparents gave us a few years back. It used to be six feet tall. The top foot was a spike that had to be folded over and over so it would support a star. The tree is now about 5'3".
The tree stands in a corner and my younger siblings always argue over who gets to stand in the corner and grab the lights and garland back there and pass them the rest of the way around. My Dad makes several attempts at getting every light on the star to light up but they won't so one light is out making the star seem lopsided.
We hang our stockings on the wall and hang up some garlands and lights around the windows.
On Christmas eve, my sibs and I beg to open one gift on Christmas Eve but only won and got to one year. At six AM or so, we wake up and dig into our stockings. One year, my sibs and I woke up at 4 and my parents made us go back to bed until 6:30. My parents then made a rule that we couldn't get up before 6. I think this year, I'm going to tell my sibs to NOT wake me up, I'll open my stocking at nine thirty or whenever I wake up.
We make breakfast and afterward open presents. We go around the circle from oldest to youngest and open a present and then go around again. We do whatever the rest of the day, normally we go outside and ski or snowmachine or sled or snowball fight or any other of those s words that are applicable to winter time.
I'll post my answers to those questions a little later but right now I feel like reminiscing (or boring everyone else ) with our family's favorite Christmas memory.
After my brother graduated university in 1983 he took a job in Seattle, a few thousand miles from here. He's an RN and had to work Christmas; it was hard coming home to visit at any time at first. But he was able to get Christmas off in 1985, and we kept his planned trip to visit our parents a secret, just like those Hallmark advertisements where the kid sneaks into the home and makes coffee.
I picked him up at the airport and drove the 2 hours to my parents' house, arriving well after dark. They weren't home since they were visiting my sister in the hospital. (It wasn't a happy time, but we knew this visit should cheer them up).
When they arrived home, my brother hid in another room while I gave them an improvised story of losing my job and having to move home.
But then my brother popped out of his hiding place and it truly was one of those Hallmark moments we all remember over 2 decades later.
And to cap it off, later that evening my brother and I braved serious windchills to catch our first glimpses of the returning Comet Halley - a sight I'd looked forward to for a very long time. The date: Friday, December 13.
Ah, the memories.
Anyone else have some memories to share?
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Well, I've only ever celebrated Christmas twice in my life (the first time was before I was even a month old, and the second was just last year) so my family doesn't really have any traditions or anything, but I'll attempt this anyway.
Last year we only had three days to prepare because we hadn't decided whether we were going to celebrate Christmas or not, it having pagan roots and all that. We decided on Sunday, shopped for gifts all of Monday and Tuesday, and looked desperately for trees all of Wednesday. It was rather fun.
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper! It's so much more personal.
2. Real tree or Artificial? Real. Artificial trees are just too fake.

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? A star! Angels just don't cut it.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? We opened them Christmas afternoon last year because we slept in SUPER late and then we listened to a sermon or two online. It took us forever, and we were supposed to go to my aunt's for dessert and we were late.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Many things... it bothers me how right after the Canadian Thanksgiving all sorts of Christmas decorations appear in stores. And insane shoppers annoy me too.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Over decorate yards, especially ones with inflatable decoration.
I don't mean to sound like a Scrooge...Our neighbors have some of those inflatables - not to mention 6-foot tall letters spelling "ho ho ho" that are lit by floodlights possibly visible from orbit . It kind of impedes the stargazing a little bit, especially since I live in the city anyway. We've joked that airplanes may think they're airport landing beacons. Good thing the ISS is so bright.
...anyway for christmas i will probalay go to teh beach and what ever.
I've thought about what a fun change of pace it would be to celebrate Christmas Down Under - a summer walk on the shore or a nice campfire on a long summer evening - rather than with piles of snow and the sun setting before 4:30 pm.
Which reminds me...*drumroll*

We should have a favorite Christmas memory question....but here's one of mine anyway. My brother had started the tradition of waking our parents up by Superman jumping into their bed. My brother is a very energetic and slightly hyperactive kid, so as we're opening up our stockings, he's hopping around on the end of my parents' bed in his footie pajamas going "It's Christmas! It's Christmas!" and all of a sudden he disappeared! One minute he was jumping around and the next he was just gone over the edge of the bed, taking most of the pillows with him. There was a moment of silence, and then we heard this insane giggling from the floor. Later that night, he proceeded to drop the video camera while filming everyone, and we have video of the ceiling with him going "Oh, no! Help! Um...help!" as the camera is tilting. My brother is very theatrical.
"I didn't ask you what man says about God. I asked if you believe in God."

2. Real tree or Artificial? Real. I don't think we've ever had an artificial tree.

8. Easiest person to buy for? My younger brother.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color? Well, I like red and gold, but we generally do blue and silver with white lights on our tree, plus my mom has a rather large collection of snowmen, many of which are white, blue, and silver. So it all goes together.
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? We do our special dinner on Christmas Eve: London broil, salad, raspberries in the snow, potatoes, rolls (Sister Schubert's), green beans...I can't wait!
25. What do you want for Christmas this year? Books. Lots and lots of books. And a chair to use at my desk.
Which reminds me...*drumroll*

Cool maps, stargazer! I thought it was interesting to compare Canada and the US. I think I just barely live in the white on the Canada map. Maybe. Or possibly the light blue, 90%. I think it'll be a white Christmas here this year, anyway.
One time several years ago, around Christmas, we had some friends of ours come up from Vancouver Island... a place where it rarely snows. They wanted to go sledding and they were so excited, because we lived in a city that always had snow at Christmastime. And we had no snow. They haven't been back since. [/randomish]
