Anyone else love flexing their brains with a good old crossword, or some Sudoku? If so feel free to share what your favorite and least favorite puzzle types are and anyother puzzle related thoughts.

Personally I'm a fan of logic problems, mazes, sodoku, and word searches... but I fail at crosswords... unless they're animal related :P

Has anyone seen the Master Sodoku boards? With 5 boards in one? I love those :P

Being a person who doesn't get along too well with math and numbers, I can't say I like sudoko. :p (I've tried it once or twice, though... the super easy ones)

But I have always liked word searches and crossword puzzles! (whether on the computer, an android phone, book-form, or whatever) Speaking of which, I'm almost addicted to this one word search game I have on my phone. I think it's mainly cause the colours are pretty. ;))

And do actual puzzles count too? Like, the ones that make pictures? I spent hours making those as a kid! (especially during times when there were tornados... and we'd be stuck in the basement for a long time)

Anyway, great topic! I'll try and stop in every once in awhile. Ok?

I do a set of puzzles on-line every day. On www.denverpost.com, under Entertainment -> Arcades and Games there are several puzzles I do. The main one is the Universal Jigsaw puzzle. It's a nice easy way to get your Jigsaw puzzle fix.

On www.elpasotimes.com, I will do the Pic-a-Pix (where you have a 15x15 grid and the numbers on the side represent sequences of blocks that you fill in with at least one black spot between each set), Hashi (a puzzle where you connect adjacent numbers with one or two bridges. Each number contains that many bridges and you must be able to access each number from any other location.), and Karuko (a mix between Sodoku and Crosswords).

Then on www.washingtonpost.com, I will do the sudokus, but mainly the Mega (a 16 x 16 with 4x4 blocks) Sudoku.

Those are the main ones I like. It gives my a puzzle fix without (often) straining myself too hard or taking up a lot of time.

I am very into puzzles. ;)) I do pretty much all kinds of puzzles that have been mentioned here. Jigsaws, crosswords (not too good at these but I try anyways), sudoku, and one I haven't seen mentioned here that my mom introduced me to called Hidato.

They give you a certain amount of numbers on a board to start off with and you have to fill in the rest of the numbers from 1 to whatever, and each consecutive number has to be touching in some way. It's kind of tricky, but it's fun. :)

I do Sudoku and crossword puzzles from time to time, but what I really like are books of logic/word puzzles, and crime-solving puzzles like this:

You have to examine each story very closely to see where the suspect slipped up. Some are easy, and others are insanely hard!

Like a lot of people, I reall enjoy Sudoku as well (it's become my daily fix :p ). wolfloversk, I reall enjoy the super Sudoku as well with the five squares to fill in. I tend to enjoy the five squares a bit more because they take longer to complete.

I also really enjoy jigsaw puzzles. My favorites are the puzzles with 1,000+ pieces- talk about your rainy day activity :D . I would really like to try to complete a 3D jigsaw puzzle again. I tried to complete one growing up, but grew frustrated after awhile and never did complete it. I'd be interested in trying my hand at another... I don't even know if they still exist or not.

FK I've played something similar to Hidato once in a Nancy Drew videogame.... unfortunately we didn't have any hints (it was my roommates game) so we were having a terrible time figuring it out :P

Lion's Emblem oh I've always wanted to try more of the 3D ones... they look so fun!!! I had a small fish one once, very fun.

Rubik's Cube counts as a puzzle right? I have two, been trying to figure them out for years... hasn't worked yet... I've tried corners, strait edges, one side at a time... I can't see how someone can figure those things out in less than 2 minutes...

A Rubik's Cube definitely counts. I've managed to solve it twice before, but each time it took about 2 hours! :p What I'm even worse at is the Fifteen Puzzle. 8-|

One of my students in one of my Pre-AP Geometry classes can do the Rubik's Cube in less than a minute. He told me today his record is 37 seconds. Yeah, I'm good with puzzles but not like that.

My family and I are playing 15-puzzle with our house. We have to do repairs on our mobile home after we moved it a month ago and so we have to move everything out of one room to do the repairs, then move it all back to do the next room.

Overall I'm pretty good with those. I've gotten a fair amount of practice with them because it's a mini-game in Zelda: Wind Waker.

With real jigsaw puzzles, I don't like them if they are fewer than 1,000 pieces. It's too quick. We like the 2,000-5,000 piece range. 12,000+ is getting to be too much.

With 3D puzzles, I've worked a few. They aren't bad, but they aren't the best. For me they are mostly one-timers and living in the desert if you keep them together for too long, they get very dusty very quickly.

What is this 15-puzzle that you speak of? I've not heard of it before.

Ugh, the Rubik's Cube is hard! The only way I can think of to beat it, is to peel the stickers off. =))

Anyway, I had a question... do riddles count as puzzles?

It looks like this:

The goal is to slide the tiles to get the them lined up in numerical order. It's harder than it sounds! :p There are also some other gameplay variations.

Does it count as a 15-puzzle if it has pictures instead of numbers? 'Cause I've done both that one and one with the image variant. Personally, I think they're easier than a Rubik's Cube; since I can solve those and I've yet to solve a Rubik's Cube...

Anyone play any of the Professor Layton games? I just spent a night playing through Curious Village... and by spent a night, I mean, playing it for about ten hours straight.

Apparently, good puzzles are about a hundred times more effective than caffeine.

Here, I'll offer up a quick puzzle from the game:

_ is 1,000 times _ _ .

You must fill in all the blanks with the same letter of the alphabet to make the statement true. Which letter is it?

I never have, but I have wanted to for a while. I do play the Legend of Zelda games a lot though, and they have a lot of puzzles in them.

Is the answer "O"? :-
