I just need to ask, as I have already seen a couple posts on here about Brave--How was Brave, really?
While I enjoyed it, I think the only parts that really live up to Pixar standards are the first 35-40 minutes or so, and the last 25 minutes. I thought the middle was ok, but definitely not Pixar grade. I saw it matinee and felt ok with that price, but I won't see it again until the DVD comes out, and I may just rent it. I agree with Stargazer; the visuals and music definitely made it worthwhile for me, and they really are breathtaking. The characters are great as well (I would be excited if Pixar announced a sequel to see all the characters again) I just didn't enjoy the plot quite as much. I hope that helps!
Is it just me, or did anyone else KNOW the main surmise of the film long before the movie came out?
I had no idea, even after reading some reviews for it. It's funny how obvious it is watching the trailer, though, especially with

Why don't you just watch the movie for yourself? It's best to go into some movies knowing very little.
Well, sure, but I'd like to know that I'm investing my time in something worthwhile. As Ithilwen said, if it's something I want to see at all.

Ah, okay. Yeah, thanks! From some reviews and commentary that I've been seeing, everyone says one thing: "It was not up to Pixar standards."

Every time I think of a quote or witty comment to put here, the quote is not so spectacular and the comment is not so witty.
Just returned from seeing Pixar's "Brave".
PROS: Princess Merida, her Clydesdale - Angus, the triplets, Billy Connolly, most of the cast, gorgeous visuals, the Scottish culture and accents, the drama, the action, much of the soundtrack, the 1st and 3rd acts, some good humour, and all that red hair!
CONS: Much of the 2nd act was a bit lazily-written and struck the wrong tone, making the movie seem rather uneven. Pixar generally manages to strike the right balance between the dramatic and funny moments but don't quite succeed this time. I also didn't care for this act (regarding the wild beast), because it seemed to tell a vastly different story to the one I had envisioned from the trailer (this Con is my own personal preference). As a whole I think "Brave" would've worked better as a dramatic adventure story, one with humorous moments, rather than what we were given. Still, a good movie and quite enjoyable.
