@coracle I've looked up more information about the property — it's a privately owned estate, but the online map shows it to be just south of the C.S. Lewis Nature Reserve, which is the woodland he owned, and all within the same green space on the map. So I think this estate backs onto his former property, and the woodland surrounding the holiday accommodation is contiguous with Lewis's (there's presumably a fence at the boundary).

All of which is reminding me of one of my favourite stories from Lewis's all-too-short but happy marriage to Joy Davidman Gresham. (I forget where I read this one, but it may have been in one of Douglas Gresham's reminiscences.) It seems Joy owned a small air rifle, which she used simply to scare birds away from their garden, but she had it with her one day when she and Jack were taking a walk in these woods on their property. Suddenly they were confronted by a young man carrying a crossbow. Jack politely informed him that he was on private property. In response, the man pointed his loaded crossbow at them.

Jack instinctively stepped protectively in front of his wife, but was at once met with a yell of "Dammit, Jack, get out of my line of fire!!"

With which Jack stepped aside, and on seeing Joy aiming her rifle, the would-be bowman fled in an instant! Grin ROFL Wink

"Now you are a lioness," said Aslan. "And now all Narnia will be renewed."

@courtenay thank you for looking that up.

I've read that too, and it might be in Lenten Lands.

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
