What drives me crazy is when Narnia is compared to Harry Potter. All the newspaper articles and reviews always go back to Harry Potter when talking about Narnia (i.e. the train station in PC is referenced as being taken from HP). I was especially irked when a recent review of upcoming fall/winter season films gave HP prase while scolding VDT because it was "just another sequel". As if HP would do well because it's a film from a book series while VDT would not beacuse it was just another sequel (as if the writer has no clue that Narnia is a series of books as well, written long before HP). It will probably be the same with LB, being the seventh film, and therefore "copying" HP by doing seven stories as well.
Amen to all that! If I felt up to writing a book I could write one on the influence of C.S.Lewis on J.K. Rowling, and how the HP series couldn't have been written were it not for the example C.S.Lewis' Narnia series. This is one lady who has openly discussed both what she liked and what she disliked about the Narnia series, and I have to admit I still remain a fan of both series. The trouble is, who would read anything I wrote?
Another pet peeve is the fuss and hue and cry over PC not meeting up to fanfic or other expectations, especially that kiss. Or the thought it will impact on other books/films. It probably won't.
Comparisons to LotR. I love LotR as well, and Lewis and Tolkien were friends and were interested in similar books and ideas but they presented them in different ways. I think both can be appreciated in different ways as well.
I also don't like it when people complain about the lack of detail. I just can't get across to them that Lewis was not incompetent because he did that. He did it on purpose.

^Yes! Finally, someone I can relate to. Haha.
It just shows they have their own way of creating their own stories. Both are great. We loved Narnia because of what it is, and not what it lacks. Same goes to LOTR.

I know what you mean but I must say that Tolkien definitely did put a lot more time and thought into Middle-Earth than Lewis did Narnia.
I think it also has to do with the fact that the Chronicles are more or less geared toward children that they are to adults, though adults can enjoy them too.
^ Yes Tolkien sure put in a lot of work. He was a perfectionist and it shows. I love his work because they are so detailed. I love Lewis' work b/c they are simple. So its not better to be simple or complicated...its just that different things work for different books.

Yeah. LOTR is like the adult version of Narnia, while Narnia is a kid version of LOTR. Haha.

When people call Lewis sexist for the whole Susan thing, without looking any further into it. Its like they have a double standard. If it had happened to one of the guys, they wouldn't care, but since it happened to one of the girls, he has to be sexist. Because any male writer who has anything bad happen to a female character must hate women. Grrrrr.
It also irritates me when people read some sort of universalism into Emeth's story.

Salvation is a fire in the midnight of the soul-Switchfoot
And I hate it when christians who don't know the first thing about the Chronicles attacked them as witchcraft and occultism and whatnot.
And what gets me really mad is when they start saying that C. s. Lewis was never a christian, and no christian should ever read his writings.
People just hear the word magic and go all off the deep end.
^ Yes. Even Tolkien was accused of being a bad Christian because he included Wizards in his books. He revealed eventually that the "wizards" were actually angels.
Lewis got interested in Christianity beacuse he felt it was like a myth that was true. And since he loved mythology, this fascinated him. I think what both Tolkien and Lewis did in including mythological elements worked out very well. It drew them and their readers closer to Christianity.
One thing that drives me bonkers amongst movie fans is that The Professor = Mr. Tumnus and Mrs. Macready = The White Witch.
I've heard this one too, and I agree its annoying.

I have heard people call the series "the lion the witch and the Wardrobe series" I dislike that so much! also when people think the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is ther first book of the series.

Katana, The LWW was the first book in the series for a while until the publishing companies decided to publish them in chronological order.
I have owned some Narnia books that have the MN as the 7th or 8th.
yes, LWW is indeed the first book of the series, and the context of the book explain it as such. And a previous poster mentioned being annoyed when people call Aslan's Country "heaven". Well, the books aren't allegorical, but it can't be denied that it is the heaven of Narnia. After all, old things have passed and now they can be with Aslan forever without pain and suffering- where the adventure truly begins...
I also get annoyed by "Mr. Thomas", I don't get how fans don't know this yet. Also annoyed by Jadis = Lady of the Green Kyrtle, though thanks to the mistaken intro in the new series, I once believed this myself.
When people call Edmund, Edward...

I hate it that whenever I'm in a group talking about C.S. Lewis, the first thing they say is, "Oh, he was a friend of Tolkien". But whenever I'm in a group talking about Tolkien, no one ever mentions that he was a friend of C.S. Lewis...
