I don't think that your idea is horribly far-fetched, dotK. It certainly is as credible as any of the other ideas, which, let's face it, cannot be tested no matter what.
It is worth noting to say that there are some plants that bloom in winter (precious few I know), and some vegetables can be grown indoors (tomatoes for example).
This reminds me of a very funny exchange between C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman in the movie "Shadowlands" The movie that's a biographical film about Lewis' life (Anthony Hopkins plays Lewis for those who haven't seen the film).
She asked this exact same question, and followed up with, "I suppose that there would have been a thriving black market for potatoes in Narnia though." To which Jack only laughed, which. . . I suppose, is what we too must do.

Given the european love of gardening I suppose the indore garden is not that far fetched. As for a black market, a possibility there. After all, there were enough creatures about who hated the witch to make up an army. Must have been someone with wits enough to run a black market.
Anything goes really. I like the black market idea...
Dont mice have short time spans here on earth? So maybe they have short time spans in Narnia too. Kind of like cats.. they are adults at only 3 years. So its entirely possible that Reepicheep is only 3 years old.
your fellow Telmarine
It is Reepicheeps fate. For all he knew he could of dreamed it. Kind of like what Aslan did to Lucy in the PC movie that led her to finding the Narnian's. Aslan must of sent a dryad to reepicheep in a dream to prepare his purpose for one day.

Jill+Tirian! Let there be Jilrian!
Or maybe it was a real dryad... from Archenland.
Dryads could have fled there when the Telmarines took over; we just don't know. We do know, however, that the trees themselves can move, o it might be possible. She/he could have come over the mountains to see baby Reep. (Aw, he would be such a cute baby with his little sword! )
And why should how long mice live in our world affect Talking Beasts in Narnia? They only resemble our animals in looks, not minds. Perhaps their lives are longer, too.
Writing books and fitting all the information together is as hard as it is (I would know), but writing a whole series of seven books would be harder to remember everything you've written. So I, of course, agree with everyone who thinks C. S. Lewis just plain forgot!
Day of Wrath, that day of burning,
Seer and Sibyl speak concerning,
All the world to ashes turning.
[wrath]: that is very likely and possible! it's most likely what happened!
