In what appears to be our most official casting rumour so far, Deadline is reporting British pop-star Charlie XCX is “among top choices for a key role and there have been talks for a little while, but nothing is set at the moment. TBC whether a deal comes to fruition.”

Well..... I know the same amount about her as Mikey Madison, which is absolutely nothing. At least Charlie XCX is British.
I will also add that Lady Gaga has had a pretty good run as an actress as well as a singer, so asking a singer to play a role doesn't immediately cause me to run away screaming.
If all of these rumors are true (Mikey and Charlie and Daisy), they're definitely aiming for a much younger White Witch, and I find that fascinating.

Question is, if you go younger for Jadis, do you also have to go younger for Uncle Andrew?
I can't imagine it would be a good look to have a grey-haired old man infatuated with a 25-32 year old.woman. it would just be weird and creepy in all the wrong ways.
Everything about this production has been unexpected—Greta Gerwig’s involvement, the decision to adapt The Magician’s Nephew first, and even Netflix breaking its entire theatrical release strategy. So, in a way, Charli XCX being in talks for a role feels pretty on-brand for Netflix’s Narnia. I’ve been very encouraged by what we've heard of the production thus far, so I will reserve judgment on Charli’s (possible) casting.

I don't know 'this young person' at all. What is her professional training and experience, acting, singing, dancing, magic tricks?
How tall is she, and can she play 6 feet tall ? Can she play Jadis for both films?

Id genuinely be surprised for anyone to have not heard at least one of her songs in a sort of "oh yeah, I know that tune" from a film, or an advert, or just off the radio or whatever, but I would also say that even though she had one of the biggest selling albums of last year (and one of the biggest memes of the year to boot), she perhaps hasn't yet had that same sort of mainstream breakout as say Taylor Swift?
Maybe that's an unfair comparison to make, but I guess what I mean is that she isn't a nobody, but maybe not quite a universal household name either?
I'm seeing a lot of negative comments about this on the Narniaweb news story but...just from the picture included in the story, I'm liking her better for the role of Jadis than Saoirse Ronan, Daisy Ridley or Mikey Madison. I feel bad for saying that since they're all "real" actresses and Charlie XCX isn't. But she projects a kind of regal dignity in the picture. Neither Ronan, Ridley nor Madison do IMO. Of course, they're actresses and theoretically they can project anything. But I wouldn't be excited if any of them were cast as Jadis. I'd probably be like, "oh well, they're not terrible or anything." Charlie XCX might be terrible. But I also think she could be great.
For better or worse-for who knows what may unfold from a chrysalis?-hope was left behind.

I don't know anything about her even as a singer, let alone as an actress, but looking at the photo of her on the NarniaWeb news article, I can definitely imagine her as Jadis, at least as far as her face is concerned. Whether or not she has the "presence" and the acting ability is another matter!

As for this, I get the "weird and creepy" implications, but to me that's rather the point. Even in the book, we don't know how old Jadis is or even how old she looks — she's been magically preserved in the ruins of Charn for who knows how long, and we're never told how old she was at the time of that final war, or indeed whether people from Charn (especially magicians) age at the same rate as people from our world anyway. All we know is that she's stunningly beautiful and that over-60 Andrew quickly falls for her (while he's not actually in her terrifying presence, at least). But I've always seen that as part of the overall essential creepiness of his own character, that a bloke of his age so promptly starts having feelings for a woman who at least appears to be much younger than himself. And we definitely know she looks young, because Aunt Letty and I'm pretty sure others in the London scene (I don't have the book with me right now) refer to her as "young lady".
So yes, I can imagine her being played by an actress in her 20s or early 30s, and Uncle Andrew still being the age he is in the book and being the rather sleazy old man that it's already implied that he is. Or even if they make him under 50, I don't think that in itself will necessarily ruin the portrayal, just so long as he's still sufficiently creepy!

@icarus I had never heard of her, and I don't listen to pop music, so I'm honestly that one person who doesn't know her work.

@courtenay @coracle - perhaps you wouldn't know.her by name, or even recognise her my appearance, but songs like the one below (by Icona Pop ft Charli XCX) has been on so many adverts over the last 12 years or so that I'm sure you must have heard it at some.point.
(Contains some language)
There was probably a time when it came out that you couldn't move without hearing it play somewhere.
She also did.this song for the movie 'The Fault in Our Stars' which was a pretty big hit (though nowhere near as prevalent as above)
Also anyone who has seen Barbie will have heard this tune:

Hmmm, no, can't say that I have, although I'm not certain, as it sounds like so many other recent pop songs that sound like second-rate late-'90s pop songs sped up a bit with a more thumping electronic beat added. At least it's catchy, though; I don't think much of the other two at all.

Well, ´key role´ doesn´t have to mean Jadis. Perhaps Jadis´s sister, I imagine Gerwig would like go deeper into Jadis´s backstory so I imagine there´d have to be flashbacks. Or even Mabel Kirke?
I agree with the general sentiment here that from the photo alone she's more Jadis than any of the others who've been rumoured so far. I also didn't recognise her name or picture but have heard some of her music, thank you for sharing @icarus
@courtenay Same as you, I have no problem with a younger actress playing Jadis and actually imagined her as a younger women when reading. I don't know where I got that image from but in my head she's always been early 30s at the oldest and I never thought the Uncle Andrew situation anymore creepy than's fitting for his character.

Now that I'm home and can check the book, I can confirm that Aunt Letty (in Chapter 7 of MN) refers to Jadis as "this young person" and "young woman"; later in the chapter, after Jadis has smashed the cab, the policeman also calls her "that there young woman", and Frank the Cabby addresses her directly as "Missie". In the next chapter, Uncle Andrew addresses her as "my dear young lady" twice. Of course all of them might just be being polite in front of her, but one gets the impression that quite a range of people see her as young, just going by her looks. So she definitely doesn't come across as having the appearance or manner of a middle-aged or older woman, and therefore I'd say it makes sense for her to be portrayed by an actress in her 20s or early 30s at most.
(For the record, I've always thought Tilda Swinton looked too old for the White Witch in the Walden version of LWW — I've just checked and she was 44 when it was filmed. Not suggesting that people over 40 are "old"!! But I reckon Jadis definitely needs to look a lot younger than that, and of course after she eats the apple — which is what turns her skin literally white (not just "white" as in pale, but white as in "white as salt") — she doesn't age any further, so she should still appear the same age when we meet her again as the White Witch in LWW.)

Maybe, she is being eyed for Jadis but, I think we tend to overlook the bell scene as potential roles for a lot of people.
There are a lot of statues of people and maybe Greta will hire real people for those roles. Also, potentially, we will have the battle scene that takes place between Jadis and her sister. Honestly, I had never heard of Charlie until last year when an American politician hired her to promote them. Well, anyway, I have no real problem with her as long as she can act. I did look up her height and if she was cast for Jadis, I would be slightly disappointed because she is only 5'3.
