[Closed] UPDATE! Can you really forget? - Susan widescreen wallie

Lady Courage

I wanted a new background this morning that had something to do with Susan. So, I made this. I'm really not much of a graphics person. I like it, but I'm not very good. This one would certainly be one of my betters.

What do y'all think? Since I'm not very good, criticism is appreciated as much as comments. ;) I need to improve, because I do a lot of graphics work in my web design.

Hmm... That's funny... Photobucket shrunk the wallpaper... :-??

EDIT: Here's the edited version with the text in a different place. I also decided I didn't care for the first font, so changed it. But then, I'm not sure I like this new font either... :-

I think you did a very nice job, Lady Courage! :) I especially like how well you blended the image of Anna/Susan in with the background texture, it's really nice! :) The image of the city lights in the background is subtly blended in and fits quite well with the theme of the piece. :) Colouration of Anna/Susan is very pretty- very soft and I like it. :) My only CC is that I'm not quite sure if the text looks nice where you put it, over part of her face. It doesn't look awful, though, just maybe a touch out of place? :)

All in all though, wonderful job! :)

ForeverFan, Thank you!

I agree though, the text does look sorta odd. :- It didn't show up on top of all the textures behind her though, or at least, I wasn't able to make it show up. :p I should probably try to mess with the text some more... It does look slightly out of place, and really, that's one reason I posted it here, to see if anyone else thought that too. ;))

Very nice Lady Courage! :D I love the blending! I also liked the picture you chose of Anna Popplewell! :)
I personally like the text where it is, I like how you softened it so it’s not to distracting when looking at the entire picture. :)

Oh, you don't give yourself enough credit Lady Courage. You've done a nice job with this piece. Overall design and layout look good, nice and simple. I'm not sure on how much of the coloration you personally altered, but it looks great (I really like the intensity on Anna's eyes). Blending of imagery is superb. The cityscape image looks great, but I'm 100% sure on how it fits in with your concept for the piece. I do have a thought, but I am interested in hearing your reasoning about it. I agree with ForeverFan on the layout of the text. To me, it sort of looks like a tattoo on Anna's face, especially the way it has both light and dark coloration to it. Although, I'm not really sure on how the text would look on the cityscape image either (there's a lot of deatil there already, whereas there's pretty much one tone for where the text is now). I think there may need to be a few alterations to get the text to fit in just right (but I guess it's subjective since the text has had a few opinions already. It's really up to you). Nice work on this piece and don't doubt yourself (you're doing fine in the graphics department :) ).

Lion's Emblem, why, thank you! I didn't do much on her coloration, just a little brightening, upping contrast and yes, enhanced her eyes. I like intense eyes too. :D

The cityscape comes from my image of the "wordly" Susan. Susan turned her back on Narnia to move on to bigger things. Lipstick, nylons, fashion. I've always imagined that she was really trying to fit into the rhythm of the big city. I could see her trying to fit into the "exciting" and glamorous high society of the city. She wants to be a big fish in a big town, not a small fish, or even a big fish in a small town. In the city, life moves so fast it's easy to forget things. In a smaller town (where I've always imagined the Pevensies are from) memories are clung to and brought up over and over again.
I don't know if I've described my reasons very well, but then, I didn't come to that thought through reasoning. I've just always known that Susan went to the big city and tried to fit in, and succeeded. Partly. I think she always had a memory of Narnia in the back of her mind. And if you look very, very closely, you can see two images of Susan in Narnia behind her, like ghosts of another world. You can't see them unless you look for them, and even if you know they're there, you could ignore them. Or you could let them stand out to you, even amidst the flashing lights of the city.
So, that's why she's in front of a city. :)

A tattoo! =)) Oh dear Susan, you are really gone, aren't 'ya? Ah well, I guess I need to just play with it. I've been leaning towards moving it too, ever since I shrugged it off and just left it. lol And thank you! I'm glad someone disagrees with me on my lack of graphics skills: A lot of people see my graphics daily and don't even know it. :p Now I feel a bit better about it. lol

I think I definitely like the placement of the font in #2 over where it is in #1, Lady Courage! :) It looks much better- in general I guess I'm not a super huge fan of text being on people's faces, mainly because it does look like a tattoo, or in any case, somewhat distracting. ;)) I think the fonts you chose this time around work nicely as well. :)

By the way, I really like the concept of the faded Narnian images of Susan that you included- I can see them now (at least one, I believe) and I like the sort of depth it brings to the piece. Maybe depth isn't quite the right word. ;)) But I really quite like it, and it's a creative and subtle way of furthering the Susan not believing in Narnia theme. :) Bravo!

Thanks everyone!

ForeverFan, I'm glad you like it better! I do too. :p I'm not hugely fond of text-on-face stuff either actually, I was just trying to be different and creative. FAIL! lol The tattoo comparison finally made me understand why I don't care for it, so thanks Lion for that! :D

Hmm, that sounds about a match to my thoughts as well Lady Courage. I wasn't quite sure if this was the same idea you had in mind since the image is of Anna and not of Susan. I didn't want to speak my thoughts on the concept until I was sure . Thanks for the clarify. Oh, and I'm glad you mentioned the other "ghost" images of Susan that are in the BG. I hadn't noticed them before, but seeing them now really adds to the concept of the piece. The idea just ties in so well with the thought of Susan's memories fading, but they are still there.

On the new wp, the new text placement is working much more effectively than in the first version. Personally, I like the font choice on this new version. Parts of it seem to just blend in with the imagery which adds even more to the theme of the piece. Nice work on the subtle changes .
