Another picture for Beginte's SC Fan Campaign! :D
It didn't turn out the way I wanted, but I'll live. ;)
Hope you guys like it! :)

"Apart from that, they were very different; some had tails and others not, some wore great beards and others had very round, smooth faces, big as pumpkins. There were long, pointed noses, and long, soft noses like small trunks, and great blobby noses. Several had single horns in the middle of their foreheads."

Silver Chair
Chapter 10, Pg. 141

Here is the Drawing:

And here is the same one with a little color:

Oh, wow, this is great! You captured them perfectly. This is exactly the way I imagined them too. :) You even got the super-sad expressions.

Oh, WOW!!! :D :-o

I love this! First off, congratulations on your patiene - really major congratulations! And I love the immense creativity! I've always loved the concept of such great variety of the Gnomes in Underland, and am looking so much forward to seeing it in the film! (Which will get made, of course) Your version met my expectations definitely! I absolutely loved the details, the wrinkles, the features, the eyes, and the variety of appearances, such amazing work! And I actually found the two little ones (the smallest on the left bottom/center and the one snuggling more to the right) actually cute ;)) The light effect in the center-left is amazing! :-o Absolutely perfect, the light is cast so perfectly that it almost feels like a colour painting!

Technical question - what format did you use for this?

Great, amazing job again!!!

I'm planning to post another SC piece soon, but I can't decide which one, I have 4 in my mind, but I think I'll go with the one in the most advanced stage, I've almost finished.

Wow!!! This is amazing, 7! :-o I love how the gnomes all look so unique - and yet they are the same, too! For fantasy creatures, they all look so realistic, and all the details in their faces are awesome. The shading is amazing, how you were able to make the light seem to glow, even without any color. I also really like how you did your border to look like rocks instead of just a line.

Seriously, fantastic job!

@Tarkheena: Thank You! :D
I’m so glad I drew them the way you pictured, I would Love to illustrate books one day, so I’m glad I managed drawing them well. :)
And I was a little worried they wouldn’t look sad enough, so I’m glad they turned out! ;)

@Beginte: Thank You so much! :D
My patients came to the brink with this drawing! :p
I’m so glad your expectations were met! :D
It was fun to draw them all different, but of course they had to look similar so it was fun trying to figure them all out. :p Glad to know I managed to make them all varied enough!
I also thought those two gnomes were cute while I was drawing them! :p
Since the gnomes aren’t really bad guys, I thought not all of them needed to look as threatening. :)
I’m so happy the glowing light turned out! :D
As far as what format I used:

When I drew the picture I took my kneaded eraser (I love that easer) and dabbed at where I wanted the light until it looked how I wanted.
After I was finished I scanned my drawing to Photoshop and painted blue with the soft light effect over the glowing light.

I’m not sure if you want me to explain the way I drew the light, or how I colored the light, if I didn’t answer your question right feel free to ask here or PM me anytime and I can explain in more detail (I'm not always the best at explaining things. :p )

Oh, I Can’t Wait to see your SC drawings! :D I’m always checking the Fan Art to see if you have posted anything new! :)

@Silver the Wanderer: Thanks! :D
I’m really glad I managed to keep them different yet similar, that was my goal when I was drawing them! :)
I really had a hard time at first trying to make them look less like a cartoon and more realistic! I’m so glad they turned out realistically! :D
My Kneaded eraser (like I mentioned to Beginte) is to thank for the glowing effect of the light! My kneaded eraser is as essential to me as my pencil is when I draw! :p
I thought a line border would be to plain, I’m glad you like the rock effect! :)

@DamselJillPole: Thank You! :D
I’m so happy to know I drew them the way you pictured! :)
And I’m glad you like the details, I love to draw details! :p :)

Haha, I can only imagine how short your patience must've been at the end of the picture :) I adore how they're all similar, belonging to one species, and yet all different, each one speficic and distinctive I adore their variety! Oh, exactly, they're not really bad out of themselves, and I love the touch of making two of them cute, aww! In fact, most of them don't look vicious - ugly, yes, but not evil, and I love this subtle balance :D Oh, no, I'm sorry for not being speficic, I meant what format of sheet you used Was it A4 or A3 or B4? Yay, thanks! I should be able to finish the drawing today and post it tomorrow at the latest, a new poster-like piece titled "Mine". The next in line are "Don't be an ass" and "Lion kisses", you can figure out from which scene of the book... one of my favs, as it happens, even if I didn't read all of it, heh. But that's only because I always want to have some more Narnia to look forward to, and hence read as slow as possible :)

Once again - great, amazing, patient job! :D

A very beautiful drawing, 7chronicles! :D I love everything about it: the interpretation, the characters, the extreme detail, & the tone of the image! They all create a wonderful balance. Goodness, each of the Gnomes has such distinct and unique features;from the largest one to the tiniest one at the front. I particularly like the expressions, and once again the minute details that make them so realistic. This must have been a lot of work! I also really like how you fringed off the edges, that's always a wonderful effect to have in a drawing. This is extremely well done! Lovely! :)

@Beginte: I’m so happy you like them! :D It makes all the work drawing it worth it! :)
Don’t worry about it. :p
The paper I drew the picture on was a 9x12, after I scanned it into Photoshop I used a 8x10 sheet to paste the drawing onto. I think B4 is the closest thing to a 8x10. Please let me know if you need more details, like I said before I’m not that great at explaining things :p , so if you could bear with me :p , I would be more then happy to try and help figure it out for you! :)
Oh, good I can’t wait to see all of them! :D
Thank you so much again! :)

@Quinlin:Thank You so much! :D I’m so glad the detail turned out!
I’m so happy you like the difference in their appearance. It was fun trying to make them different and yet similar! :)
Yes, it was work but very fun. As I mentioned to Beginte it brought my patients to the brink. :p I’m so glad you like it, it makes it all worth it! :D
I’m glad to hear the edging works well, I thought it would look better then just doing a line border. :)

Nice illustration 7chronicles. I personally prefer the colored piece. The subtly of the blue hues adds such a "complete" feel to the piece, pushing the idea of the environment that these characters live in (cold, dark, and dim lighting). Superb. The detail is great, reminds me of woodcut pieces. The character personality types are also looking good. There's definitely a sense of one people (or gnomes :) ), but each has its own look and personality. I really like the fact that you really don't have a frame a reference to the piece and that it has an irregular shape (which ties in quite nicely to some of Pauline Baynes illustrations for Narnia). I also like how some of the gnomes come forward, off from the BG, and out of the boundaries of the piece (adds a nice visual quality). Nice work
.

@:Lucy85 Thank You so Much! :) I'm so glad to hear you like it! :D

@Lion's Emblem: Thank You! :D
I'm glad the color piece worked out! I thought adding a little bit of color would look good with this type of picture. I think the color effect turned out much better then the Reepicheep color one I did a while ago. :p
I'm so glad to hear that I managed to give each of the gnomes a different look, and yet kept them looking the same! :)
I'm also glad the border turned out well, it is a great complement for you to mention Pauline Baynes illustrations, Thank you! :)

WOW 7chronicles!!! AMAZING!! It looks like something out of the Lord of the Rings!! I second everything everyone has said about the detail and similarities and differences..truly an outstanding work of art! This is almost exactly the way I imagined them to be!!
I love how they look half-dead and yet half-living, kind of like they're under some sort of spell where they don't have any control over what they do, just blindly following they're mistress. You really captured the feel of these gnomes!
