So yesterday I was feeling artistic and with MN likely being the next film coming out, I decided to quickly sketch a guinea pig happily wandering through the Wood between the Worlds munching on a leaf with a golden ring taped to its back. The sketch took me all of 30 min but getting it uploaded onto my computer took the rest of the day. Thankfully Photobucket has some color correction so you can actually make it out cause I ended up having to take a picture of it. Hope you like.
I was wondering... does anybody know what kind of tape existed back then? Cause I highly doubt it was Scotch tape (which is what I used in the drawing ).
awwww...so cute!!! Looks exactly like the guinea pig we had! (It died from an infection... ) I love it!!!
umm...I have no idea about tape....sorry...

Whoa! That is so adorable! I had no idea that you could draw, fk! Amazing job! I seriously want to reach out and pet it; it looks so real!
*likes fk's post*
As to what kind of tape they used back then, I don't know either.

wow it's really neat, and very cute, I love it
and I hate to sound like a broken record but I don't know what sort of tape they used in those days either

What a cute picture! The guinea looks so cute that I could squeeze him. It has very expressive eyes too. Well done

What an adorable, little guinea pig! I love the soft tone of the drawing and how the color of the paper also compliments those hues. Did the paper you drew this on already have this color composition, because the way it appears here with the sketch looks great! Your details on his face, particularly his folded ears and his munching mouth are wonderful! He just looks so real, hence the cuteness!
Oh, and maybe they used some maple syrup or tree sap to make the ring stick on...

Aww, fk!!! That guinea pig is just too cute! I had no idea you could draw, either... fabulous job! I love the details, especially in the face. Really love the ears, eyes, nose, and mouth.
Is it a he or a she?
And I have no idea what kind of tape

Thank you very much for the compliments everybody. Yes, I can draw. I just hardly ever take the time to do it.

Nothing even remotely as cool as that. When I scanned it, it was like a super high contrast version came out and you couldn't see half the drawing. So I had to take a picture of it, and that came out either too dark, too light, or too unfocused. I ended up uploading the too dark version and color correcting it in photobucket (didn't even know photobucket had photo correcting capabilities until yesterday) so you could actually see it. It's just a No.2 pencil sketch on white printer paper. Oh, with a little bit of yellow and brown colored pencil on the ring.
As far as the tape goes, I took a peek at Pauline Baynes drawing and she looks like she uses a ribbon. Which is actually far closer to Lewis's description than what I drew.
But round the middle of the guinea-pig there ran a tape, and, tied on to it by the tape, was a bright yellow ring.
So maybe Lewis's definitely of tape was more like measuring tape rather than a sticky-backed tape?

Hahaha
Is it a he or a she?
*tosses a coin* She! Definitely, a she!

"Tape" is actually a briticisim for twine, cord, or string. So the ring was tied to the guinea pig. . . not taped.
It's a wonderful drawing though.

As an addition to DiGoRyKiRkE's post, yeah, it was probably tied, having something sticky like tape was not available to the public at the time of MN. Scotch tape, the first "clear" tape, wasn't even invented until the 1930's. Also, I always imagined (my interpretation) that the Guinea Pig was shaved right under the ring, as Uncle Andrew couldn't have possibly known about hair being a conductor. (Hey, how did hair work and not cloth??) I imagine that Andrew shaved the spot, placed a cloth over the spot, tied the ring in place, then ZIP! and POOF! and AAAUGH!!!
Oh, and CUUUUTE LITTLE PIG!!! You've got skills.

Adorable drawing! I love the roundness of the body, as well as the eyes and little ears. This reminds me of the rabbit I used to have, Pedro. Very cute indeed.
Take time to draw more in the future.

This is so Good fantasia_kitty! It looks like a storybook illustration!
I Love how detailed and yet simple it is!
I also Love how you colored the ring!
Hope to see more drawings from you! I Love it!

Oh, it's so very cute! And I really like how you managed to draw a guinea pig that has a facial expression . Excellent work with the ears.

This is really adorable! Kind of makes me want a guinea pig, but I'm not sure how my cats would feel about that. I'll definitely be watching for more of your sketches!
