_Lilliandil_: Welcome to NW! :D

If you go to this thread and scroll down to the section that says "How to upload an image to your profile", you should find all the information you need. :)

Hope that helps! If you still can't figure it out, just let me know!

Thanks so much to Beginte & Silver for their helpful tips on my Photoshop question. I haven't got it quite resolved, but as of right now I have figured out a way I can get it to work without freezing up. It still only works when it wants to, but my Dad is going to work on my computer a bit when he gets the chance. So thank you so much for your input! It was very helpful!

AnnasStar2010, Are you still interested in that wallpaper? I can definitely try to work on it for you. As I said above, my computer and Photoshop program have been having problems, but I can try my best. :) If you're still interested, PM me!

Everytime I save an animated file as a gif animation it becomes all pixally, and it becomes worse in quality than it was before I saved it. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm not sure if I'm saving it right :-s I use gimp :)

~Thanks, wolf ;)

I'm just making sure: it is acceptable to post Narnia pics from the actual movie, isn't it? I don't see anywhere that actually states this, and I don't want any copyright trouble. Although, I am probably overlooking some sort of rule thread... please enlighten me!

I don't know if this question's been asked here, but here goes.

How do you resize a photo, the pixels part, without making the subject of the photo tiny? I want to know how to make avatars and signatures of different movie and actor photos. And when I try to resize them to 100x100 or 100x300, in GIMP and Paint for example, the pictures become tiny!

I have yet to make a single avatar or signature!

:- :-s :((

220, are you cropping the image to only the part of the picture you want to use before you scale it down? Also, especially if the original picture is very large, check when you scale it down that it's being viewed at 100%. The latter happens to me a lot, and it sounds similar to what's happening to you. Hopefully that helps! :)

So do I crop first - if at all? or resize/scale down? I'm really confused. :-

So how do I resize the attached photo? To 100x100?

220, I'd say that the picture would probably need to be cropped a little bit before you turn it into an avatar, as it doesn't have square dimensions (currently, it's at 399 x 266). If you try to scale it down to 100 x 100 as it is, you will get a very stretched picture. In this case, yes, I would recommend cropping it a little bit so you get more of a square shape (266 x 266, for example); even if it's not a perfect square you will get less distortion if the dimensions are close to being square.
On your GIMP toolbar, there should be a button that looks like a scalpel. If you click on that, you should be able to crop the image by drawing/adjusting a box on the image.
After you've cropped it, then you need to go to the Image folder on the toolbar and select "Scale Image" from the drop down list. That will bring up a window that will allow you to input "100" into the width and height boxes. To the right of those boxes is a little chain button that is automatically set to keep the scale ratio the same (if it's a square, and you enter in 100 for one input, it will automatically set the other input to 100 as well); if your picture isn't perfectly square, you can click it, which will allow you to enter the 100 in manually for both inputs.
Hopefully that will help you. If not, though, I (and the more brilliant artists around here) can try to help you figure out what's still going wrong. :)

Well first thing you should do is crop it to some multiple of 100X100 (like 200X200, 300X300, etc. big enough that you can get as much of the image as you want.) If your using gimp I suggest doing this by using your selection tool, entering the dimensions you want, move the box over the part you want to keep, then go to image>crop to selection.

Then you should resize it by going to Image>Scale Image and entering in 100X100.

It's likely that your picture will appear very tiny, this can be fixed by selectiong the zoom tool (it looks like a magnifying glass) from your tool box. Choose Zoom in and then click your image, you may have to click it more than once.

I hope that helped :)

I cropped the photo easily enough. I’ve done this before. But when I tell it 100x100, it becomes really tiny. And then it’s fuzzy when I zoom in. I don’t want this! I want clarity in a 100x100 picture, even after I zoom in. I want space to work with too. I mean, look at the photo in my signature. How was that produced? It's a clear (not fuzzy) close-up of a movie still! :-

I cropped the two attached images to 100x100 and 100x300, but I lost a lot of the image each time. And there isn't much dead space for me to work with - unless I want really tiny words or something... :((

EDIT

Would someone be willing to make me a wallpaper using pictures of Lucy and Edmund together from the three movies? Maybe the picture of them hugging in the first movie after they find out he is redeemed. Besides that one whatever other pictures from the other two movies.

@Mountainfireflower: I'm also interested in this wallie - if you or another is willing to make it. :)

Hmmm...That sounds more like just what's typical of GIMP zoom. If you zoom in too far it will make the image appear fuzzy. Let me upload a few pics to see if I understand what's happening properly.

OK first I crop the image to 500X500, and it looks like this:

(Click to make larger)

Then I go to image scale image and it looks like this:

(Click to make larger)

The problem with that is that it's really small, and hard to work with. So then I zoom in, but if I zoom in too far it will appear fuzzy, like this:

Unfortunately with GIMP (and Paint as well) the only way that your going to get the picture to be good quality is if its zoomed in at exactly 100%, no more no less. Which should look something like this:

Once again, it's a bit small to work with. The good news is tough that you can edit it while it's zoomed in, and although it will appear fuzzy, the final product will not be. Really the only downside is that you'll probably have to zoom out to see what it looks like, and back in to edit it (which can be a bit of a pain with GIMP, as it's very easy to zoom in too far, but trust me its easier than Paint.) If this is the problem, I wouldn't worry too much about it affecting your final product's quality. It's just going to be a little bit harder to edit.

I hope that made sense.

I have two questions regarding textures.

First: I've noticed a few people have posted textures they made and then said something like "please credit". How do I credit a texture? I mean, I know how to credit an avvie, I just post in my sig "avvie by whoever" but then do I also have to put "avvie by whoever, texture in avvie by whoever"?

Second: are there any sites where I can get free textures?

Julie: To answer your 1st question, when some asks you to credit your texture, you only are crediting them when you post the avie. For example, if I made an avie with flambeau's texture, then in my post, I would say, "the texture in #1 is by flambeau." But you don't have to credit the texture in your avie (if your using someone else's). So if you use an avie by me and you wanted to credit, you'd put "avie by Wunderkind_Lucy" not "avie by Wunderkind_Lucy, texture in avie by flambeau." I hope that makes sense.

As for a place to get free textures, Livejournal is a great place to start. Also the Resource thread here has a lot of textures available. Just be sure to double-check to see if a maker asks for credit for textures.

This is the graphics resource community of my sister and I. There are mostly textures and some bases and anime screencaps.

Hope this helps!

If you have questions, feel free to ask! :D

Thank you, wunder. I'm still confused on the crediting textures. I don't quite get it. .... Ok, I just re-read it again and it made sense. Re-reading stuff slowly four or five times is wonderful for understanding stuff!

And thank you for the texture resources. I looked through the NW resource thread earlier today but totally forgot it was there!
