My design of Eustace as a dragon. Only head and neck, from a profile to expose all the details I wanted to underline... I chose the colors by my personal preference, for a scene of Eustace flying that I always had in mind, and maybe one day I will do the whole picture, but that certainly won't be too soon.
Yes, the thing on the back of his neck is a sort of horse mane... on Pauline Baynes' pictures you can see dragon Eustace having some sort of short horse mane on the back of his neck, but I deleted the tuft (bangs), since I liked it better without it in my design.
I hope you like it! I worked my hands off (some time ago, as you can see by the date in signature), especially on the light effect which is done completely by hand, no brightening/shading Photoshop effects, just a wide variety of coloring brushes!
Time for me to end the long rant, here's the link. Enjoy!

Nice conceptual design for Eustace as a dragon Beginte. Coloration and lighting are superb. It's nice to see that you didn't go with a typical green colored dragon. The lighting on his neck is so great, you can really get the sense of the muscular structure that lies underneath the skin. Nice work on the highlights, shadows, and getting in the reflected light pattern as well (really pushes the believability). I miss not having the "bangs" as a sense to connect back to Eustace, but I can definitely see why you decided not to include this element (the "hair" look on the chin is a nice touch though and gives the same effect). The rest of the "hair" work on the neck is great, has a nice flow and blend to it. The scale work is fantastic, really gives a textural feel, and the addition of the darker spots adds another nice design touch. The eye work and facial expression look good as well, helps to push the character personality. The only thing that gets me is that the neck seems a little thick where it connects to the head (but who's ever seen a dragon to say for certain? ). Nice work .

That's sooo beautiful, I love it! It reminds me of Saphira from The Inheritance Trilogy/Eragon!

Amazing talent, Beginte. I love it! The colour is perfect, and I really like the mane. I would very much like to see a finished product!

Beginte, what a very good drawing! I'm not sure that I would have used the blue-ish coloring though, especially since Avatar just came out (it kinda reminded me of the creatures in that movie...somewhat). I love the neck! I always imagined the dragon with scales everywhere, but you kept that concept intact with a few scales at the bottom. And that allows the muscle structure to be seen through the skin. Lovely drawing, very well done!

I like it!! Never imagined him as blue, but that's a pretty cool idea!

Ahhh...don't know why I haven't seen this before. Youv'e done an excellent job. Like Queen Susan said I never thought of him as blue, or with such a long neck, but its a really neat concept. And the neck also depends on how big the rest of the body is. Nicely done, and you have wonderful drawing skills

It's a very good drawing. The colouring is excellent, very beautiful shades of blue .

Wow. All I can say is...wow. Beginte, you deserve a round of applause! Did you draw that by hand, or is it a computer image? I honestly can't tell!
I have to say that this is absolutely amazing. I really think you captured the emotion on the dragon's face--not an easy feat. When looking at this drawing, I can sense that the dragon feels sorrowful and lonely--well done!!

Whoa! Beautiful! The hair/tendrils on his neck are so realistic. Become a concept artist- you've got talent!

You are simply amazing, Beginte! You work is always so beautiful! The detail on this dragon is incredible; I can only imagine how much work it must be. I actually quite like the look of the "mane", it's different, but it works. The color you chose is gorgeous and the lighting is really well done! If Eustace looks anywhere near that good in the actual film I will be satisfied.
I'm assuming you have some sort of drawing pad for you computer, as doing such work with a mouse would be unbelievably difficult.
Thanks for sharing this, Beginte!

Wow! Brilliantly done, Beginte! I always saw Eustace as red/orange rather than blue, but that's just a personal choice. You must have worked for hours on this!
