NOW do you understand why this was a forbidden topic for about 4 years on Narniaweb?
Here is the simple truth:
1. They are different characters.
2. We have it on the best possible authority that the role of LOTGK will not be played by Tilda Swinton. And I don't lie.
Christproclaimer, your understanding of the situation is different from mine.
I know Douglas Gresham and the production have made certain statements about it, but I really don't think we can take any of that too seriously; Tilda Swinton also explicitly promised she wouldn't be in PC, and then the trailer came out and lo and behold, she was lying. Same for Douglas Gresham and 'global warming'. Whatever the production says about WW=LoGK, I don't think we can stop worrying about this yet.
Tilda didn't promise. She just said she wasn't but was cleverly evasive.
Mr Gresham didn't lie - he said concern about attraction between Susan and Caspian wasn't a big issue. He suggested it was less important than global warming - but he never said there would be no relationship.
Mr Gresham has also said that it would be wrong to cast the actress who played Jadis as LOTGK because they are different people.
There are a number of other reasons why she would not be LOTGK, including the suggestion of reincarnation, which C.S.Lewis (and most Christians) would not go along with at all.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
I boycotted VDT, so ...
I think the idea that the LotGK might call up the WW's spirit for a quick chat is probably more likely than WW=LotGK. They really would have to be idiots to do so, since it is something that the fandom has been at war over for ages. But then we got the Susan/Caspian snog and the Seven Swords and Smokey J, so who knows what production is thinking? But still, I don't think this is going to happen. If it does, then I will definitely be boycotting the film.
I think would depend on how they did it. For it me it wasn't obvious that they used the same actress for Lady of Green Kirtle in the BBC version. I had no clue that she was even the same actress until someone told me.
I would boycott. For me, this is one of the essentials in turning the CoN into films--they simply MUST get this, and get it right.
In LWW, Aslan defeated the White Witch. The cameos in PC and VDT worked because they were illustrating personal evil and temptation. Peter, Nikabrik, Edmund were all tempted towards what the White Witch represented, but she did not physically come back. If she does so in SC, as the LotGK, that means she was not defeated. It means that Aslan is NOT utterly victorious over evil. Aslan is not the ultimate power in Narnia, the White Witch is. This is a Big Deal.
Besides, on a practical note, I think the fandom is tired of seeing Tilda. The non-book fans (who have even less of an attachment or interest in Tilda/the White Witch than we do) are tired of seeing her. I honestly don't think they'll gain much in the way of marketing or box office by bringing her back again. Hopefully they'll realize that.

I would hate it if Tilda played LotGk. That said, I wouldnt boycott it because they did the same thing in the BBC version with Barbra Kellerman.
Winter Is Coming
Never seemed a little exteme for me, because I wouldn't be happy if the WW and LotGk were the same person, but I voted for that because I wouldn't boycott the film for that reason.
I wouldn't boycott the film if that was the sole reason. The other aspects of the filmc could be fantastic. Anyways, I love SC. However if there were many other BIG problems, then I might.

This is my complete and entire opinion. As long as The Silver Chair is made, I'm there opening day.
Really, stateofgreen? I'm curious, what's your idea of "overall production of the Silver Chair right in a major sense"? 'Cause, for me, making LotGK the same as the White Witch drastically changes what I call "over all production in the major sense".
I thought about this more and yeah I guess it would bother me and would be a major change.
But I really don't think it will happen.

You speak for me as well. I don't see the point of supporting first PC then VDT, joining NarniaWeb, agonising over the VDT daily takings and hoping against hope that SC is going to be made, to then refuse to see the movie, if it gets finally greenlit and then made, after all.
If the film is no good then I will tell everyone that I think it is no good, but I won't boycott it. Also, I think that whatever Walden does with SC it won't be a matter Tilda Swinton playing LOTGK.
I knew a lot of you were going to bring up the now-prevalent expectation of a link between WW and LoGK. To add my two cents to that, I'm pretty sure it will happen to some degree. I'm not happy about it, I'm going to roll my eyes when I see it, but I wouldn't boycott over that.
The poll topic asks if you would boycott if they were the same person. Making them mentor/pupil, mother/daughter, buddy/buddy, or whatever, is acceptable (If you can cringe and squirm and manage not to cry while you're watching it ).
Just thought I'd clarify the question. As a partial purist, there are some things I'll tolerate, and some things I won't. If they screw up big time, I'm boycotting.
EDIT: I just went back and read Coracle's post, and believe me, I am with you 100%. But after the way the past two movies have gone, I'm really not sure we can trust what the production (even Douglas Gresham) says. Plus, his statement on Tilda not being LoGK was worded evasively, or oddly enough to leave room for loopholes. I just wish he would stop being so deceptive about really important things in the films (the power of Aslan over evil) and tell us point blank, "I will not let them destroy my stepfather's work." I don't expect him to tell us if the movie will turn out badly, but I don't think it's too much to ask that he tell us he'll do the right thing. Or try.
I'm not far enough into the "what if" thoughts for SC, but I doubt I would ever boycott the series, not matter what the change is. For now, I'm pretty sure Douglas meant what he said about not having Tilda play LotGK (although Bookwyrm could be right on "bringing the WW's spirit back AGAIN" ). As we hopefully get deeper into production, and if it might change, and what would I do? Likely cry a few hours then get over it.
So, I voted never, mostly because I don't know what's to happen yet, but I know I'll still watch the Narnia films.
I confess, I cannot see how anyone would boycott them for this reason. Personally, I had always thought, until I joined this site, that they were the same person, and frankly I still do. It is certainly strongly suggested that they are and when Aslan said that the fruit had made Jadis immortal in MN, it sealed the belief in my mind.
If the WW and LotGK were made to be the same person in the movie, then I would not want to watch it. I might watch it once simply because it is a Narnia based film, but I most certainly wouldn't buy the DVD. (Right now, I have the DVDs for LWW and PC, and I am planning to get VDT's.)
For the two witches to be the same would be a HUGE change and would definitely undermine Aslan's authority. I agree wholeheartedly with malkah's post above on this page.

I wouldn't boycott the movie, but I wouldnt be happy about it for that very reason. Even her appearance in VDT seemed kinda like "oh, THIS again..", in PC it worked, but again?
I'd really like to see a different actress (we need a new villain!) and with no cameos, I mean we've kinda moved on from LWW by now .
