Hello! Nice looking site! This is my first post on this or any other Narnia book/movie related site.
My Statement:
After seeing the various trailers and a few other clips, I decided that I won't be seeing the VotDT movie in a theater (unlike the first two), and It's extremely unlikely that I'll buy the DVD (unlike the first two). In other words, I've decided that it's not worth my $.
Why I am not Interested in this Movie
In brief: the additional plot elements added by the writers/director/producers. Further exposition is unnecessary as I assume that you here have heard it all before.
Reasons for Making this Statement to You:
To let it be known that my lack of enthusiasm and interest in this movie is not due to a lack of enthusiasm/interest in Narnia in general.
I very much want to see good movie adaptions of the remaining 4 books and I would gladly pay for them. To that end, I will email my thoughts to Walden/Fox. I have seen one or two clips wherein it is stated that future Narnia movie development depends in part on the success of this film. That would be a shame, I think, if this movie doesn't do so well.
Perhaps I speak for the many casual Narnia fans who conclude as I do but can't be bothered to take the time to register and post to a fan site even once, as I am now doing.
That's all for now. I hope you all enjoy it. I hope it's very entertaining. And, of course, it is just a movie. I shall check my email and read your responses, if any. Thank you.
Later.
I hope this makes the cut!
I respect you opinion. I can understand why some of the changes to the book might cause you to be upset. That being said, since you have not actually seen the movie, I find it hard to understand your judgment on it. It seems kinda extreme that you have decided that you will not even watch the movie when it comes out on video. Since you say you want all the books to become movies then your attitude defeats that desire. In the end these movies are about making money. Walden and Fox care the most about that. If people share your attitude then the other movies won't get made. No amount of letters will change that. In the end it's dollars, not the fans opinions that count the most to them. I would recommend at least rethinking whether you would at least ever rent this movie.
It's fine if you don't want to see the movie. But you can't complain to Fox/Walden about the film unless you have seen the movie for yourself and know what your talking about.
Having seen the movie myself, there were a lot of things I had judged beforehand that werent a big deal at all.
Winter Is Coming
Okay, all I'm going to say is that there are things that I don't think I will like that they have changed, but I'm very excited to see the film, and once I've seen it I'll be able to make a more knowledgeable opinion about the film.
Maybe you should watch the movie, and then make a thread like this, only call it, "Why I will never see the movie again." Just a thought.

Ohhhh. I get it now!
I was really confused when i saw this topic, as i didn't really seem to process the fact it was a brand new user - i simply assumed you had had a sudden change of heart and decided you weren't going to see this movie. I was thinking it seemed a bit extreme after several years following the progress of this movie to suddenly decide you were going to give up on it at the final hurdle and not go see it. lol.
Oh to be a fly on the wall when someone at Fox or Walden reads an e-mail that says "I didn't see the film, but here's what you're doing wrong."
Oops. Wait. Actually, that sounds like some of the commentary around NW.
LOL!
Yeah, if I suddenly decided not to watch the movie you all would know something was wrong with me, and I would expect you all to somehow get me to a mental institution immediately!
Actually, back when I joined in 2006 I was going to just be "FriendofNarnia", but that name was already taken (by someone who did not switch accounts over to the new Narniaweb). But I figured I could be a "FriendofNarnia2."
So that's the history behind how I got my name. haha

I'm inclined to agree with that statement.
Really though if people aren't going to support it (by going to see it) for some minor changes (the seven swords representing the seven Lords is a small change and it's been widely blown out of proportion at this site and others I feel), they're basically supporting the idea that the series should end here. It really does depend on this movie folks.
Thats what a lot of people arent realising.
Unlike a lot of book series, I notice that many people are fans of some of the chronicles and not the entire series.
Most people like LWW. But you get some people who love The Silver Chair and the Magicians Nephew and hate Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Many love the Horse and His Boy while others feel it had nothing to do with the series and a unecessary read. Some like the end of the Last Battle while others hate the ending so much that they protest it.
And so I notice that a lot of people say they are going to watch some of the movies, but skip the ones that failed to interest them.
Well that attitude won't get the series made. The only way for SC, HaHB, MN and LB to get made is if each film in the series does well.
Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader are my least favorite books in the series, but I'm still very supportive of the movies because the remaining four books of the series I LOVE! So the word needs to get out that this film must be watched or all hopes of seeing the other films are dead.
Winter Is Coming
I agree, Josh. I don't care as much about VODT the book as much as a lot of people on here do - I prefer HHB - but I still support the VODT movie. I'm hoping that my worries about some of the changes will be swept away by a wonderful movie and that I'll be able to enjoy it on repeated viewings (something that hasn't really happened with PC - I watch it, but changes like the Suspian romance/kiss prevent me from truly enjoying it)
But to concern myself with the original poster's reaction, I will provide a different example. I have never seen Twilight. I have never *read* Twilight. All I know about both is bits and pieces I get from the internet and friends. And yes, I make a judgement about the movie and the book based only on second-hand information. However, I am not going to write Stephanie Myers and tell her that her book is terrible and that it ruins vampires and vampire stories (even though that is one of the main complaints of many people who have read the books - and not that I actually care about vampires). It would not be fair of me to do that when I have not even read the stories.
Take that as you will.

It appears to have made the cut.
I trust that you find it interesting that others too will not see the movie - it simply deviates too far from what he or she thought it should have been. You know what? Thats alright. Don't have to see it.
I will go still and see it anyway. Just because I love sitting and a theater and scarffing down a box of red vines. That I know I will enjoy the movie.
FriendOfNarnia! Welcome aboard the forums.
“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
I very much want to see good movie adaptions of the remaining 4 books and I would gladly pay for them. To that end, I will email my thoughts to Walden/Fox.
To me it seems that he's not saying that he will complain to Walden/Fox about the current movie, only that he will encourage them to carry on with the movie-making.
I have seen one or two clips wherein it is stated that future Narnia movie development depends in part on the success of this film. That would be a shame, I think, if this movie doesn't do so well.
Then it doesn't make sense that he won't contribute to it's doing well - some dollars for a VDT-ticket might be more encouragement than an email for SC ...

FriendofNarnia, welcome to the forums. While I do agree with everyone else that you shouldn't criticize a movie you haven't seen, there is one thing you can criticize...Fox's marketing campaign.
You are a prime example of why I have loathed Fox's marketing campaign. It is only trying to appeal to the general public, and doesn't even bother to attempt to court the actual fans of, you know, the original book. In fact, the trailers include scenes that aren't in the movie and taglines that lie about the plot, making it appear that VDT has actually been changed more than it really has. (If the film is a financial success due to this deceiving scheme, I might ultimately be ok with it, but for right now, it's only scaring away the people for whom this movie was really made for.)
If you are interested in seeing future Narnia films, I would suggest that you go see the movie once on opening weekend, just to give it a chance. (The producers will decide whether or not Silver Chair will be made based on VDT's opening box office proves it to be a profitable film.) Although I completely understand your reasons to hate the film so much as to not ever see it (there are many things I dislike about the film as well), I think there are some elements of the movie that they really got right, and so even if you don't enjoy a lot of the movie, I'm pretty sure you'll find several scenes to be perfectly adapted from the book.
Sometimes I think that the films have overstayed their welcome if they are going to go down an unfaithful path. Should I really spend my money on a bad film just so the can make more bad films? Maybe they just should have stopped after LWW?
Although there is always hope for an entire new production team and distributor.

I understand that you want a more faithful movie adaption, but aren't you kind of minimizing your chances of seeing any more Nanria (faithful or not) if you dont' support this film.
I do hope that the next Narnia movies are more faithful to the books. But I am still going to support the VDT 100% I am going to try and see it twice in opening weekend. I really want to see The Silver Chair on the big screen.
